A section of the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters in Sauka, Abuja was destroyed by fire on Tuesday afternoon.

Federal Fire Service Public Relations Officer, Biodun Obisesan said the fire outbreak started some minutes after 12 pm.

He said the FFS in collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory’s Fire Service and that of the Air Force were able to put off the fire before it could cause severe damage.

Obisesan who said the cause of the fire outbreak was still unknown, explained that no life was lost in the incident.

“The fire outbreak affected the store area where their NIS fabrics are kept,” he added.

Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Tuesday sacked 187 workers over irregular employment by the past management. Most of the effected staff were employed by the former Acting Director-General, NCAA, Engr. Benedict Adeyileka
Engr Benedict Adeyileka, now Director of Airworthiness and the Human Resources Director of the agency, Mr Austin Amadi, have since also been placed on suspension by the current NCAA DG, Dr. Mukhtar Usman and this received the approval of the Minister of Aviation, Chief. Osita Chidoka.
A letter with reference NCAA/DG/GEN/Vol.11/2014 signed by Mr A.M Yamsikit , General Manager, Human Resources, and distributed to the affected staff said “I refer to your appointment and subsequent resumption to duty and to inform you that the Ministry of Aviation directed that your appointment be suspended with immediate effect, pending the completion of an investigation being conducted by the Ministry”
“In the meantime, you are directed to hand over all NCAA property, including your identity card to your Head of Department while further developments on the matter will be communicated to you in due course, please”
The management further said that the engagement of the employees did not follow due process and receive approval from higher authorities. The salaries of the affected workers, a source in NCAA said, had since been suspended by the management.
The source added that the affected employees were hurriedly brought into the system towards the tail end of Adeyileka tenue as the Acting Director-General of the agency. No fewer than 700 employees had been engaged in NCAA in the past two years with most of them coming through the presidency, National Assembly and ministers

the reason y it is been withheld cos dey can not release d list without an exam cos d former exam wos rendered null due to d tragedy dat happnd.now if dey call for another exam dey will be asking for another funds and rite now we vecome to d end of d year whre d govt will b paying all outstanding debts which got to d accounting pay office btwn now till jan.also election is at hand.and dey can not release a lit witout an exam cos dat might lead to protests and riot for hw can u select d bonafide candidates witout testing dem.d last meetinng wos held in germany wit a few top pple.so dnt expect a list but an exam

gh decision -Jega

The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega, on Wednesday said the postponement of April 2 2011 Presidential election was one of the most unpleasant and difficult decisions he has ever taken in his life.

While premising the decision on non-provision of results sheets by the contractor, he said some Nigerians suggested that the commission should write the results on a piece of paper and make announcement.

He, however, assured that the commission would improve on its duties to ensure that such mistakes were not repeated in the 2015 general elections.

The INEC chairman said these in Lagos during the public presentation of the Nigerian media code of conduct for the coverage of 2015 election.

At the event, Jega also gave indications that there would be high deployment of security operatives for next year’s election because of the security challenges in the country.

He said, “The postponement of April 2, 2011 Presidential election was unpleasant and one of the most difficult things I have done in my life. But it had to be done. We promised Nigerians that we were going to conduct credible elections. If we had proceeded with the election of April 2, 2011 earlier, there would have been no definition of credibility that could have applied in that election.”

The INEC chairman also said that from the experience in Ekiti and Osun governorship elections, the deployment of heavy security in elections had brought credibility to the exercise.
