englishmart: Sharap! If you don't have wat to say, den keep shut! That's a governor that delivered much to his people than the president did. It has nothing to do with APC, but the man himself. He's a true leader! The resident card would at least help in verifying the legal residents of lagos state. Aliens would have to think twice before coming to lagos. A good security measure! 1 Like |

lalasticlala: Nice development, but from my point of view I guess a gradual process of segregation is gently brewing. Because a residential card is more like a "residential permit card" which I find on called for. If the remaining 36 states decide to follow suc development ........ You can just imagine. Just saying doh. 1 Like |

NewNigeriaMind:Bros, don't start throwin tribal sentiments around... It's not good for ur health. People are talking about National Id Card, Voters Card etc. But can some1 answer these lingering questions. The new National Id Card that people just registered for, when is it going to be out? The voters card that many Lagosians registered for 4 years ago (including the governor), how many Lagosians have gotten theirs? Does the use of a State Id card clash with that of a National Id card? Do the States in this country have access to unfalsified data from the Federal government about residents in the respective states? Until someone answers these questions, I'll gladly label this as a good move from Fashola 1 Like |

tlife: The national ID card should also be a resident card. It should include where u reside, that's how it's done elsewhere. We just like duplicating n complicating issues in Nigeria. We have national ID card, voters card, residents card very soon we'll have religious card too, no be Naija |

NewNigeriaMind: It's not a baseless fear at all. If u read the story of the Nigerian civil war u'll understand. Let me even talk about the one I experienced "oso Abiola" meaning "running cause of Abiola" I was only a child then but I could sense the fear in my family, we had 2 run 2 my hometown cause Lagos became dangerous 4 non-yorubas. It was rumoured that we were going 2 be killed cause d yorubas were angry that Abiola's election was nullified. I remember when we were travelling the roads were very busy cause all igbos were running home out of fear. 1 Like |

This is a very good development and is a step closer to irradicating the whole "state of origin"/ indigene/non-indigene" backwardness in Nigeria. There is value in being resident in a particular place. That is more relevant. Many places have state I.D's . I have a proof of age card from Western Australia as a state, other states in Australia have their own. It gives you credible numbers for population, that state govs can work with. |
Re: Photo: Fashola Unveils Lagos Resident Card by londoner: 10:36am On Dec 10, 2014 |
NewNigeriaMind: I dont think you understand what a residents card is and how you are determined a resident. It will not be about tribe, but residency, not along the lines of your forefathers or your village or the state that your family is originally from. It is much more of a reflection on you as an individual. Contrary to what you believe, it will actually officially underpin the belonging of residents in Lagos, regardless of tribe. Lets suppose (for example), Lagos State determines that you must have been domiciled in Lagos for 1 year to qualify for a resdents card An Igbo man who has lived for 3 years in Lagos, for example will get his residency card, but a Yoruba man from Oyo state that has just been in lagos for 10 days, will not qualify for a residents card. Residency cards actually levels populations out and gives equal access to recognition by the state based on factors other than tribal sentiment. Other states should follow suit at some point. 1 Like |

londoner: I have noticed most of you commentators on NL don't read to understand most times or rather you think most time with your emotions and hence you reach a predetermined response based on that and then you just comment. Like I said earlier, the fear most Igbo have about this resident permits is unfounded. I don't see this as a means to chase anybody out of Lagos, as such your rhetoric up their should be directed at them. The only people who should be scared are the people that actually don't live in Lagos or have residency in Lagos. I am sure I don't need to state the importance of this project to a state like Lagos. AS SUCH THIS YOUR REPLY SHOULD BE DIRECTLY TO THAT PARTICULAR GROUP OR TRIBE IN LAGOS THAT SEES EVERY POLICY AIMED AT ASCERTAINING THE TRUE RESIDENTS OF LAGOS AS A PLOT TO CHASE THEM OUT OF LAGOS THEIR OBODO OYINBO. 1 Like |
