The election of Mrs. Diezani Alison- Madueke, Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, as the President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is a deserving tribute to her person and an honour to Nigeria. She is the first woman ever to occupy that pre-eminent position in the history of the organisation. This remarkable achievement adds to her considerable list of accomplishments which includes her position as Nigeria’s first female Minister of Petroleum Resources, just as she was also the first female Executive Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
