I've been compiling parts to get this going. I plan in starting the engine this weekend. Pic 1: New drill Pic 2: Wire wheel set Pic 3: You can see some progress I made onto water pump housing PS: Use a good set of safety eye goggles when doing this as the wires do come off at high speed. I generally don't like using gloves near rolling machines. This is just my personal thing though.

I spent the day changing the engine and transmission mounts. It was a bit slow going since I'm not familiar with this setup and there were much backtracking. For example I first installed the engine mounts and then when I started doing the tradition mounts I found out that I have to remove the engine mounts After changing the mounts the engine was finally high enough to allow the oil filter to fit (I am changing the oil filtration setup).

Pic 1: Finally got the oil filter conversion kit installed after changing the engine mounts. Pic 2: Before and after of engine rack mounts. These are poly, better than original rubber but not as racy as solid mounts. Pic 3: Before and after steering rack boots. Pic 4: Surface ready for gasket. One of my pet peeves is avoiding leaks so I take due diligence in making sure that the gaskets will seal properly.

I installed a new starter and battery and tonight the engine cranked over the first time in 15 years. I need to verify that I'm building the proper oil pressure before I fire it up. I'm seriously stoked at this point since the internals seems to be okay.

Today Sunday was a much better day. I installed the gas tank, plumbed the line from the bag to the engine bay, installed a fuel filter. Installed the ignition switch. Installed the gear shift kit, shifter feels like new. Pic #1 - Shift kit. Pic #2 - Fuel filter. This is a temporary one as I am going to install a glass one with a cleanable filter. Pic #3 - Ignition switch. So to mind those that are following that the plan is first to verify and or get the car to dependable running condition. Once that ic accomplished then the plan is to take it all apart, sort out the bodywork and then reassemble. Again. This stage is just to sort out and get it into proper running condition.

For specialized tool that is to be used sparingly, you can rent them for free at most auto parts store. Another biz opportunity for someone, tool rentals.

Lots of small work has been going on. Cooling System - Completed (Only thing not new is radiator, waiting for an all alloy one to go on sale). Fuel System - Completed (May have to remove the tank and treat the inside as I'm getting some interesting debris in the filter). Tidying up a few bits and bobs. Engine fired up last weekend briefly but I am not getting proper continuous power to the coil so it's time to put on my "rewire" hat and trace cables.

The fuel system was not done after all and in fact has just started The mechanical fuel pump has gone bad. The replacement is easy (remove and replace) and cheap = $35 but since when do we do things the easy way Let's complicate things by converting to an AirTex electrical fuel pump, VW/Porsche/Audi fuel pump relay (will provide a 3 sec priming and turns off when engine is stopped via a signal from the coil) and a roll over switch that will also turn off the pump in the event of a crash or roll over.

Just to close out the thread. Tessie was adopted by a fellow car nut who just had to save her from my evil and unwashed thoughts For anyone curious, she sold for $5,000 = N1,200,000 |

CityNG: Hmmm...evil and unwashed? Can:t quite remember but i'm quite positive you're the guy with a couple of restored mercs under your belt. A real pity we won't get to see what she turns into though. Any pics before she left? |

billy187: Same condition as of last pics. The buyer is the type that doesn't believe in improving or modifying Classic cars. He's going to do a correct period rebuilt back to stock. |
