Ann: The hospital.
Ms. Clara: Oh! {paces about nervously} Not her stu.pid anorexic attacks again. I told that st.upid girl to stop starving her st.upid self. Oh, st.upid, st.upid, stu.pid! What are we gonna do now?
3rd girl(Debra): Five is good enough. We're all skinny, pretty and beauty.
Ms. Clara: Beautiful, stu.pid. {The girls laugh}
2nd girl(Lenora): Regardless of the number, there can only be one winner-me. {grins}
{The girls sigh, exasperated}.

{Kayla walks in}
Kayla: Excuse me? {Ms. Clara steps aside to attend to her}
Ms. Clara: What or who are you?
Kayla: Uhm....Kayla. Kayla Okoro.
Ms. Clara: And how can I help you, Kayla?
Kayla: Well...I- {glances briefly at the 5 girls}
Ms. Clara: {catches her gaze} You're not here to model, are you? {laughs scornfully} I mean, you're no competition for those girls with THESE hips. {taps her sides}
Kayla: Hey! {slaps her hand aside} I can model, alright. I don't have to be anorexic-looking to prove that point.
Ms. Clara: So you ARE here to model? Well, run along now because you're not getting into my industry with that attitude.
Kayla: With pleasure. What was I thinking coming here in the first place? {turns to walk away}
{Luke, the Manager hurries in}

Luke: Okay, okay, girls take your positions. {at the 5 girls} You, you, you, you, you {looks around for the sixth model, takes hold of Kayla and puts her in line} I'm guessing you're number six. Not in costume.
Kayla: Well....
Luke: Oh, no time for all of that. {at the five girls, one by each} Turn around....good, good. Qualified. {eventually reaches Kayla} Well...? Turn around.
Kayla: Sir, it's just that....
Luke: Turn, my friend!
Kayla: {turns awkwardly}
Luke: Well....a little change in the game won't hurt. {studying her assets} Ok...qualified!
Clara&Kayla: But....
Luke: {at Clara} Send the names to my office, immediately. {to the girls} Ladies, go get your costume, you're performing your first photo-shoot.
Clara: But Sir.... {goes after Luke}

{Lenora goes Kayla}
Lenora: You're not even model material. You're not THIN.
Kayla: Well...he thinks otherwise.
Lenora: {waves her hand dismissively} Pfft! You're not worth the stress. I'm gon' win this.
Kayla: If you're so sure of yourself, save your lecture.
Lenora: You'll be disqualified after this photo-shoot. I'm the prettiest in this competition.
Kayla: {rolls her eyes and walks away}
{Ms. Clara comes in}
Ms. Clara: {to Kayla} You may have won the battle, but not the war. I will kick you out of here in no time.
Debra: She can be a replacement for Steph.
Ms. Clara: No, she can't! Because I don't like her.
Kayla: Trust me Miss, the feeling is mutual.
Ms. Clara: You won't get far in this industry. {to the five girls} Go get your costumes now.
{Kayla joins the other girls}

{Kayla's home}
{Dining table. Chioma reads a story book while Nnenna glances through a fashion magazine}

Nnenna: Where is your sister?
Chioma: {shrugs} I dunno, she went out.
Nnenna: I know she went out, but where to?
Chioma: I was...asleep when she left.
Nnenna: Typical of Kayla-picks up her keys and drives her st.upid bike to wherever it takes her. She doesn't care if we eat, or if we live or die.
Chioma: No...Kayla cares.
Nnenna: No she doesn't, are you blind? Can't you see that if she really cared, she'd have come up with something to help us out; even if it involves giving up her damn pride to go pageant!
Chioma: Kayla said I was going to school at a private college.
Nnenna: Ha! With what money? Is she going to rob a bank? The quickest solution to our problem right now is that pageant.
Chioma: But Kayla said...
Nnenna: {stands up} Not another word of what Kayla said! Do you really think she's your fairy godmother and she's going to grant you all your wishes? {laughs scornfully} Kayla can't even grant her own wishes, talk less of yours.
Chioma: But...I trust Kayla.
Nnenna: When you end up in a government school, don't say I didn't warn you.

The Don: A job? {chuckles heartily} If you wanted a job so bad, you didn't have to come all the way down here; you coulda juss' called Bryan. He'd show you the ropes.
Louis: Bryan?
The Don: Yea; Bryan is my main n.igga in deals like this.
Louis: Oh.
The Don: {taps him on the back} Don't look so surprised. I know all 'em niggs on the block, 'cept you of 'cuz.
Louis: Well...what job can I engage in for you, Sir?
The Don: {thinks} You could be my go-to guy for drug pushing. Wah ya say?
Louis: {obviously shocked} Drugs?!
The Don: {laughs} Now yo' looking like a virgin.
Louis: I would like something legit, Sir.
The Don: Sir? I'm no Sir, boy. Call me 'The Don'...'Boss', whichever you please.
Louis: Boss, I would like something....a bit-
The Don: I don't do white collar bullsh.it. Take it or leave it; but I suggest you take it because it pays. {indicates by rubbing his fingers}
Louis: {looks away} It's a dirty deal
The Don: {sighs} Why'd you want a job anyway?
Louis: I've got a girl to cater for.
The Don: Oh...the troublemaker with the bike? She yo' girl?
Louis: Yeah...you know her?
The Don: {meditatively} Yeah...I guess. I know her Mom.
Louis: They'll get kicked out of their apart if I don't do something fast.
The Don: {stares at him intently} You love her?
Louis: A lot.
The Don: You ain't gon' move forward with that kinna girl, take my word for it.
Louis: Why'd you say that?
{Silence.}

The Don: You taking my offer or what?
Louis: {groans silently and walks away}

{Studio.}
{Kayla walks out of the dressing room and hands the costume to Alex}

Alex: What-it couldn't fit? {stops joking around and focuses intently on her eyes} Were you...crying?
Kayla: Here's the suit.
Alex: {takes it.} What's wrong? {genuinely concerned}
Kayla: I didn't tell you anything was wrong, did I?
Alex: Hey, I'm trying to be nice here.
Kayla: Well, shove your niceness up where the sun don't shine!
Alex: {taken aback} And your modelling?
Kayla: I quit! {walks away}

Wow! My decision to read this was not a mistake. It not only beautifully written but the plot is fresh.


However, I think you do underrate yourself in terms of your reasons for making it a dialogue. I can just imagine what this would be if it were more of a prose.
