@profojah sorry for the delay. I agree absolutely with @repsin. I want to add something too. I think if you don't have experience in ur intended major, then your application sounds desperate. you just rounded up your nysc, probably you were teaching there or something. They know it's difficult to get a job in nigeria but that doesn't mean you shouldn't look for a job say within one year from when you rounded up nysc. Applying for visa immediately after nysc is a sign of desperation. I have seen so many denials to back this up. From my experience, you need to show them you know what you want from experience/training and even if you are not working, you are not idle. My 2kobo cos dollar don too high 1 Like |

repsin:What about people who switched majors and got their visas on their first trial without breaking a sweat at the interviews? How on earth did you come to that conclusion? Almost all the Americans in my graduate class did something entirely different for undergraduate. So, where did that theory come from? I agree he needs to give a reason for his switch to forensics via work experience. But saying he should drop that for something along the lines of his undergraduate degree doesn't sound right to me. Also, applying for a visa right after NYSC is no crime. 3 Likes |

MsNas: No one has a good explanation for his denial; I guess we re all just guessing and suggesting. VOs can be funny. They r unpredictable. The fact that you were given a visa for different program from Ur undergraduate doesn't mean they would give someone else. Every applicants' case is peculiar. You guys should let that guy be and let's move on! 5 Likes |

Each applicant's case is different. I also have lot of friends that changed major but almost all of them had some supporting things. One just got his visa on friday, he changed from Biochemistry to mechanical engineering but hey this guy has been to the US seven times in five years. In projorah case, he had a very good GPA and the VO might not be comfortable with him changing this area that he's good at.and there was nothing to back up his point. MsNas: 1 Like |

@repsin @sabiguy Please because you got your visa doesn't give you any right to pontificate on why the VO denied profojah What's even worse is the fact that your assumptions are completely baseless. So everyone has to do a masters in a related field to get a visa? Absolute hogwash. Americans like continuity in education? Are you kidding me?? I've seen people switch from dance to nursing. If there's any country that believes in horizontal education and not vertical education. It is America. So that statement is not only fallacious it is downright ignorant. Visa is favour and likeablility. Simple. Don't say things you don't know especially to a downcast applicant. #Out 2 Likes |

ebdib: Young man. The only difference between phantom and Phantom is the capital and small P. Well you re speaking 'phantom' and if you read my previous posts well, you'll know where I stand and by the way, I am yet to pick up my visa plus if you care to know; I was denied F1 twice in 2008 for undergraduate cuz I couldn't even face the VO; I was young and naive with no confidence. Went to Malaysia to get my Bsc (software engineering), currently doing NYSC before trying to refire for my masters. My point is that I have known better now and I know not to determine why someone else didn't get their visa but we could only guess and suggest (if u read my last post). That being said, you need not to cause any obfuscation regarding the issue. We are all here to learn from each other! Less I forget, If you have an UG in law and going for MS in Medicine with no tangible back up or experience as to your decision in change of profession, you could be taken UNserious by VO except if u have a good story to tell about it. Whoever switched profession and got visa has done their homework right before the interview. PS: How am I supposed to be convinced that your analysis is correct when we are all here to learn! You ain't a VO... Are you |

sorry to hear prof ojah, God is on your side, You see this is one reason i said in one of my post, that people should provide more evidence/information on concerning thier visa pursuit right from day one when they apply to the university of thier choice, so as to help others.there are many of us here who are good at judgement or research, i believe with good research we can guess the VO's mind on wether one will be issued visa or not , if not 100% sure , at least 80% -90%, these guys (VO's) are humans and they can be mastered. 1 guys it will be helpful if you tell us how much is in bank statement of account 2 how much was deposited to the school u applied to 3 for your own safety dont give us school names u applied to but tell us the total ammount of tuition 4 tell us if your documentation were good enough (i know a Childhood friend who didnt have good documentation but he was granted visa, it 5 was VO'S birthday, the day he was intervied and so VO was laughing all though happily ) guy is now in A & M TX 6 State the course studied at your undergraduate level and which one u now intend to study at the new university u re applying to 7 exams written such as (gre sat, toefl, ssce, neco, gmats, etc) 8 try your possible best to post whatever conversation between you and the VO. 9 How many times u have been denied the US visa 10 Tell if your passport has been disvirgined before applying for the visa 11 Tell if you were given scholarship or grants, etc if full scholarship please specify or part scholarship , pls specify 12 Tell if your score meets the school requirement and your overall docs. please whatever information u feel its not safe for you to disclose on here, then try to keep it secrete, dont bother telling the part u feel is not safe for you to disclose its likely that a guy like prof ojah continues to spend money on these visa application process if he does not do stuffs like seek knowledge so as to get a different result next time, there are other applicants in his shoes who are likely to face thesame crisis. so u see the need as to help him now, seeing he has applied this 2nd time. i am not wishing him evil, but just saying so as u all can see reasons for doing more to help others I will post more later To add to this post , are we to say that the vo's have a certain number of visas available every year to be given to student. and so we see no need to bother/ ask why a qualified candidate for thier visa was refused. and if that be the case. we then should not say that the us Govt care not about student investing in thier economy through education please bear with my use of words(unfit)

|

Please don't turn this into something else. We are all here to learn from situation like this. It is left to you to take or discard the advice depending on how it fits you. You don't say people's assumptions are completely baseless, it's rude. ebdib: |

profojah:The Co will not ask you directly about your ties to your country. He will consider some factors viz a viz, professional, cultural, financial, social etc before deciding whether or not you have enough ties to your country. Also,he will look at your specific intentions, family situations, long range plans and prospects. All this will help him make a decision whether or not to grant you a visa.In addition, its vitally important that you don't sound or appear desperate during an interview. In fact ,that's the reason for the interview. To seperate the wheat from the chaff. The genuine from the desperate. This is quite a difficult job,but that's what they are trained to decipher.Of course a few mistakes might occur, where the CO mistakes the genuine for the desperate, these cases are few and far between, considering that they get their decisions right more often than not. They don't consider documents as vitally important, considering the number of fraudulent docs that have been presented previously. They don't even trust Nigerian docs again. And its funny when you see some applicants go with ashipload of docs, trying to impress the CO.They are quick to produce the docs, even when the CO hasn't asked for it.That might suggest desperation to the CO. In the final analysis,en sure your intentions are genuine, display a positive body language, don't fret.Maintain a calm mien,to suggest that even if the visa is not granted, heavens won't fall. That's the kinda attitude they wanna see.An applicant who demonstrates the above traits has a fantastic chance of getting a visa.
