I don't believe a General, in the nigerian army wrote this.As a general, there are other channels and means he could have used in channeling the fraustrations of the troops in the north east without making it public, and exposing himself thereby jeopardising his career.two, the article is filled with a lot of grammatical errors.now, I do not dispute the fact that this story may be true, its likely written by a junior officer.

Field commanders are not generals. This guy is probably a Lt. Col.

Its really naive to think our military is somehow insulated from the social realities in the larger Nigerian society. Nigeria is an insanely corrupt country. Its hardly surprising that our military is no different. Our military is as reflection of the larger society. The sad part is that unless we curb the corruption within the larger society, our military will continue to reflect the excesses within the society

Do you know i can write that letter and it will even be far better and more packaged than that one? Let me ask you a question, did you see any body's name or signature as the writer? think na?

Do I have to repeat what I said? The letter whether written by you or anybody says exactly what is happening. He did not even go on to say how arms from Nigerian Military are transferred to Boko Haram.

well i do have my own theory about boko haram, it has so little to do with Jonathan (except for his incompetence), it has nothing to do with buhari (i don't wanna believe and would never believe he's that smart), now the NA that's somewhere to look

"#349.7B was defence budget for 2014" (ministry of finance), after which the president asked to borrow extra #170B ($1B)... but the military is not well funded

"130,000 active frontline personal, 32,000 active reserve personnel" (wikipedia).........but still understaffed

the truth is that WAR cost money and anything that cost this much is good business, you don't have to like it but people who knows how profitable it is wont want it to end anytime soon

My thoughts exactly. The generals are definitely benefiting from BH issue, so are not in a hurry to put an end to it

I read the whole lengthy letter. If the authenticity of that letter is verified to be true then there might be a country.
For Top Military Officers to tell what is not right to the Office of the President and to the Nigerian People, there should be relieved of their duties.
It battles me so much that Badeh whose from Adamawa can't do anything meaningful. Gosh, ever since he shouted down the Ministers of Defence I desist him from that day. His physical appearance is another reason to retire him.
I pity the poor innocent Nigerians used as sacrificial lambs...

Reference:
I doubt this was written by a serving officer in the capacity he mentions for the simple reason that it is short on details. Just as a matter of fact. One example. The infantry soldier regards his weapon in combat as his soul. Why can't this person be specific as to the inferiority or indequacy of the weapon systems provided viz the insurgents and its direct influence in the theatre or specific engagements.

It is not unusual for battlefield feedback to get through to the QM and adjustments can be made but these have to be specific. Are their AK's jamming in the dust, are the magazines inadequate. How many crates of 7.62 does each section carry. Transport, food, water, flak jackets. These are the things a typical soldier is concerned about. A typical soldier will not know the intricacies of command and control and he is not interested.

I feel the problems depicted occur in the offices not on the field. The ultimate impact may be felt there but I can wager that there are power struggles going on within mid to upper level command and control, that is responsible for this. The broad amount of information collated in this report is just beyond that of a typical serving soldier in the theatre and its lack of detail speaks of something more akin to politics rather than operational.

The problem faced by the military is glaring for all to see, and I'm pretty sure this letter was written by an Officer. Although I'm a staunch supporter of the current GEJ administration, these complaints are totally authentic as I've heard it over and over again from soldiers and mobile police men on rotation from the battle front. Our troops, though brave, are currently outnumbered and outgunned. BH have the luxury of owning vehicles armed with HMGs and AA guns while our own troops own vehicles armed with mere GPMGs with AGLs just trickling in very very little numbers. And with reports i recieved from a MOPOL friend on rotation at Yobe, i suspect the BH are now armed with thermobaric rounds for their RPG launchers. Armoured vehicles and MRAPs are either too few or totally outdated and faulty. Units located in remote locations are totally cut off, no thanks to the non availability of utility/transport helicopters for resupply, MEDEVAC, and reinforcement with QRF teams. There are stories of Special Forces teams totally cut off behind enemy lines and wiped out, no thanks to adequate Combat Air Support, and we're losing precious combat aircrafts.

To make matters worse, soldiers are not paid their allowances as it's being diverted by top officers to their pockets. The S&T unit/logistic line is all messed up as soldiers are either inadequately fed or not at all. And I can conveniently say that the current CDS is a fat dullard. Things must change

And the damn plane isn't even Next Gen (700-800 series)!! No combat aircraft, no transport helicopters. The Defence Minister he even had the audacity to shout at is Gen. I even overhead the whole reason for all that was cos Gasau detected the mess within procurement and demanded that all contracts pass through the Ministry of Defence.

Kindly talk with sense. This isn't the first time this revelation has been made, but am glad its being made public. I tuned in2 one of ma favourite radio stations in lagos and the presenters made a call to a soldier involved in the fight against the islamist during the chibok saga. He said their bosses don't want the emergency rule in dose 3 states den to end because their bosses make money from it. Also whenever bh is attacking at a particular place, they are being ordered to stand down and let the carnage continue. During that period they (the millitary) were close to sambisa, and were seeing bh elements moving around freely but they can't do anything to them(bh). What does dat tell u? He also said that if they were fully supported that they are capable of bring bh's menace to an end within a month. When the stories of many from different facets are corroborated would u still say they are lying? Its a known fact that their bosses are aiding and albeiting failure of the fight against insurgency. Why do u think so much is being pumped in2 defense in the budget? Na war ship or aircraft carrier them wan buy? People are eating these monies and no one is doing anything to stop them.

any substantial evidence or all is based on speculations? The Law doesnt recognize speculations oga. In as far as i know there could be one or two things about the matter to be keenly addressed just like in any other project, i will prefer a proper investigations be carried out to provide substantial evidence instead of pedalling rumours.

Now this is a typical example of the dumb Nigerian I was complaining about.
You want the army to change but you want to re elect an incompetent commander in chief?

First four years 2 of your cousins escaped death and you want to give Jonathan another 4yrs abi?

They wont be lucky next time.
Imagine the kind of bingo I share the same passport with? "My fellow citizens" is really an insult this days.

Oh please zip it!! What makes GEJ incompetent? The same administration you insult was behind some of our very best class of service chiefs from Petrini to Ihejirika. The same administration has been responsible for increasing defence funding. True the appointment of the likes of Badeh has been a mistake, but I'm pretty sure it will be addressed. That said, this administration has outperformed it's predecessors, even that of that Islamic fanatic + BH loving cry baby clown called Buhari.

Its a pity o, that's how the price of diesel rised to 155naira why? Some powerful friends of the govt are importing diesel gen in2 the county. Here is the deal, make power generation unstable and then people will buy more diesel for their gens and then we (govt and friends) smile to the bank at the end of the month. That's exactly what's happening with the way the government is handling the insurgency issue. Only God can make this stop.

What a brain! You mean Buhari who could not prevent a mere palace coup staged against him by IBB despite knowing about it beforehand? What Democratic credential does he possess to tackle insurgents who apparently enjoy the backing of northern oligarchy? I wonder how some Buhari apologists like you think.

[color=#000099]What Military strategy does Jonathan know as a school teacher who ended up with one of his students by the way? Is he the man you prefer to handle your security challenges?
He had no antecedents in 2011 when block heads like you voted him, no success as both acting Gov, Gov and acting president yet you voted for him, but you think that an Army General cannot tackle Boko haram, I know Nigerians are dumb, but yours is a curse.

As a petroleum Minister under Obasanjo and head of NNPC, 2 refineries were built, today, Nigeria is suffering from serious energy crisis yet the man you trust cannot put together a simple PIB let alone solve its imminent challenges are you sure your IQ is ok!!?

platoon commander for a UN peace keeping operation in Congo as an ordinary second lieutenant, with CD medal to show for it, what has your beloved Jonathan got to show for 4yrs of sleeping with boko haram? conceding territories I guess?

buhari's government is revered for its ability to keep the country afloat by making progress through sheer economic ingenuity even when it rejected IMF loan and refused to adopt IMF conditionality to devalue the Naira. His government is praised for its gain in reducing inflation by refusing to devalue the nation's currency, the Nigerian Naira, curbing imports of needless goods, curtailing oil theft and using counter trade policy to barter seized illegally bunkered crude oil for needful goods like machinery, enabling it to export above its OPEC quota.

you want to compare him with Jonathan who in just a month of falling crude prices, Naira became a piece of paper of course because the foreign reserve have been stolen, crude theft, brazen corruption and abuse of office. I dont blame you shaa.

Ihejirika was excellent, how did Jonathan make him? did he even notice his valor at the epicenter of the insurgence? does he even know that Ihejirika was irreplaceable?
Military funding? are you kidding me? 2 x 30 rounds magazine of AK 47 for soldiers at the front? Don't flatter yourself, increasing military funding with thieves standing by to swallow amount to nothing.

Go and peruse Shagari's military procurement at least you are aware who bought your NNS Aradu, the only Nigerian standing Frigate, or OBJ's procurement, the APC's, the J7 aircrafts and the naval fleet that forced the militants to accept amnesty, Jonathan's procurement is only on paper and nothing more, the soldiers are complaining and deserting and you are telling me nonsense about fat military spending, or are you by any chance a beneficiary of the spurious military spending?

that reminds me were you not the dumb officer who does not know the difference between an "insurrection" and a "civil war" two years ago? let me just hope that you have improved over the years else don't quote my post again.
