that's the thing -
it's easier to rap in broken mixed with pure english written. that's 2 different languages mixed together to expand the vocab pool. the words you won't be able to rhyme with in your pure english are easily available in the style he does!

words like sotay, wetin, craze, abi, etc are gimmicks to make writing or rhyming very easy. yes - he may be funny or comical but the fact remains those jokes won't have any sting in pure english.

Eminem's case is different, he still had it in him.

I swear, Modenine still won't sell if he goes into comedy rap. For you to excel in that genre of rap in Naija you need to be able to break fence with your pidgin, plus your topic needs to conform with what is obtainable in present day naija. Ask Mode nine to do pidgin rap and you'll think you're listening to Whoopi. You need to be able to spit wetin every man go grab first before you can think of selling in Naija as for as rap is concerned - besides Modenine is no longer the fire spitter we used to know him for. Hes just like Ibime, they are both running on empty tanks. I no fit shout, I downloaded a track he titled "NTBB" or so and I deleted it after the first listen. The kinda themes he raps on these days dey tire me - na wetin follow dey sink my brother career.

hmmmmm...
you have a point.. but I thought all rappers started rapping jokes first before learning how to write bars.
I think mode nine can excel in the comedy rap genre ..he's funny and can speak pidgin..he just has to be free of all inhibition ..and lose the fake American Accent (at least for most of his tracks)-cos I think a Nigerian Accent would even make his songs better.. after all its a Naija crowd he's rapping for. .. that's the reason I feel Erigga more ..even phenom and m.i at least I dey hear wetin dem dey talk.. but most times Modo is not that audible .
what do you think?

it's a big flaw of modo - his tone projection is horrible. M.I is nice as fück on the mic. he speaks in a way that gets you interested to hear what's talking about. modo doesn't have that quality.

Re: NL Rap Battles chatroom by Heywhizzy(m): 5:28pm On Dec 17, 2014
you guys should stop lamenting mode9..I'm villagers dey against am..what is da difference between m.I and modo..why was one commercial than the other..does m.I has a popular danceable track to his name..mode9 won lyricist on the roll many times in a roll but ask all those headies regular viewers who is mode9

he should visit t.b Joshua

battle rappers are in Nigeria na...Naira land rappers !!!
grin ..
and most of.them.are way funnier than yaylow.....

I don't think going commercial is bad

.afterall the rapper must eat and pay bills

a rapper can still be commercial and be doppe..he can make mixtapes for hardcore fans and party songs

he just has to be versatile--Especially in Nigeria
