If that is a truce to stop spoiling threads with pictures, I will gladly accept but I will always criticise Anambra threads just like Enugu, Kano, Oyo or Akwa Ibom. You are also free to criticise here anytime but our quarrel starts when you post fake or real pictures aimed at giving a false impression or providing pictures for Igbo States to be mocked with much later.

I am not begging you on what you want to do. But anytime you come on Anambra thread expect me to be here with all manner of madness. I do not care if this becomes a vicious circle but you must be put in your place by all means necessary. There is so much to criticize your useless and ordinary state for. Keep those your advice to your state because you people need it more. Pictures posting must be part of the show until you learn to focus on your state and stop being bitter because of other people's advancement. I do not have problems with anybody else except you. Leave our state alone because we have nothing in common with you and where you come from.

Okorocha in four years as governor lavished Imo states capital projects allocation mostly on quickly building and commissioning one social infrastructure after another only in Owerri.
Even the roads he agreed to widen in other major towns in the state have remained uncompleted, as shown in pix here by photographers .

When Okorocha goes to the US, or other European countries, he sees that the capital cities of states, regions or provinces are not only all there is for govt attention, but when he returns to Imo state, it is Owerri, Owerri, Owerri - hardly anywhere else. Why?

Oburo obele ife; And he achieved his aim, which is to draw some attention and hopefully move the thread from her lethargic 70's pages. Whether the attention is negative or position is not important,so long the thread advances. He definitely should be tired and bored of posting the same picture of Owerri page after page. Abagworo is a useless old man and I mean a VERY OLD MAN without integrity. I pity his children.

Entertainer hosts Asaigbo Beauty Pageant in Owerri

An entertainer, Mr Mike Akubueze, has advised governments and peoples of the South East zone to invest in the entertainment industry to create jobs for the youths.

Akubueze, founder of Asaigbo Beauty Pageant, gave the advice at the grand finale of Asaigbo Beauty Pageant 2014 in Owerri on Saturday.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that entertainment industry had the potential to create thousands of jobs and reduce the rate of anti-social conducts by youths in the area.

“Youths from the South East zone constitute greater percentage of Nollywood actors and actresses in Nigeria, and yet governments of the five South East states have less interest in the industry.

“If government encourages investment in this sector, thousands of youths from the zone will be gainfully employed in the industry,’’ he said. Akubueze said he came up with the Asaigbo beauty pageant to address the problem of nudity in the attire of most young girls in Igboland and as well tackle the menace of street trading by the girl-child.

“Contestants are required to showcase the traditional Igbo attire, no form of nudity in the name of dressing is allowed.

“The aim is to redirect the minds of our young girls and make them understand that they are tomorrow’s mothers and conscience of the society’’, Akubueze said.

He said that the winner of the contest would go home with a brand new Toyota Corola car, while the second and third position would get other prizes. Akubueze hinted that apart from the Asaigbo beauty pageant, he planned to build cultural centre in the South/East and collaborate with the law enforcement agencies to check street trading during school hours by underage girls.

Potentials of abandoned Abadaba Lake, Obowo

In the heart of Obowo Local Government in Imo State lays a magnificent lake called the Abadaba Lake lying abandoned and desolate in Obowo West.
The natural lake, which is definitely one of the natures gift to the people of Imo state, has remained undeveloped and underutilised because of neglect by the state government.

Imo State is blessed with two great lakes, the Oguta Lake, which is the most prominent and developed and the relatively unknown Abadaba Lake, which the state government has paid no attention to, probably because of its location in the interior village of Obowo.
But this may not be a problem considering the location of Obudu Cattle Ranch in Cross River State and Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort in Ekiti State, which are in interior villages. A great deal of fun and excitement awaits tourists and visitors at the Oguta Lake owing to its Treasure Conference Centre, but the same cannot be said of the Abadaba Lake Resort.
As other states in the country are moving towards the promotion and development of tourism, Imo state is paying lip service to its abundant tourism resources.
Just recently, the state government announced with much excitement that it has discovered oil in some of the local governments in state including Obowo; this will definitely make good news than the development of the Abadaba Lake Resort, which has been abandoned over a long time and now in ruins.
Abadaba lake has a temperature of between 26°C to 32°C during the raining season and the nights are cool during this period with the lowest temperature ranging from 10°C to 120°C recorded between June and September, which is the rainy season.
The lake located between the serene villages of Odenkume and Okwuohia in Obowo Local Government and another small village on the other side called Umuezegwu, is a wonder of nature to behold.
Obowo is bounded on one side by Mbaise and on the other side by Ihime Mbano Local Government, Ihitte Uboma Local Government and on the other side by Umuopara Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, which is demarcated by a river called Imo River where the state got the name Imo.
In recent times, a big market has been created in Obowo from the confusion resulting from the poor handling of the relocation of traders from the Umuahia main market which governor Okorocha cashed in on to establish a big market in the boundary between the two states, called the Malaysian market by the people.
Approaching the lake from a distance due to its location and topography of the area, one will think that the massive lake is a cloud in the sky, but on getting closer, the picture of the serene lake presents itself cool and calm.
The enchantment and serenity of the lake is quite captivating in a location that is sparsely inhabited. The beauty of the lake can hold any tourist back on his first visit, but there is nothing there to keep any visitor back as the magnificent lake has remained a project on paper.
Very close to the lake is another small river called Onuiyi River where people swim and do some other things.
In between the river is a small tree demarking the lake and the river, creating some fear in the minds of people swimming in the small river that the lake may one day overflow into the river and drown hundreds of people.
But there is a myth by the local people that the deity of the lake approached that of the small river so that they will drown the people by flowing into each other. But the goddess of the small river refused, and based on that refusal, the two reached an agreement not to flow into each other and in between them was planted a small tree to mark the boundary where each of the water bodies will not pass.
Even the villagers explained that when you bring the water from the lake and pour it into water from the river, one would rise above the other, as the two waters do not meet.
A visit to the massive lake showed the wonder of the whole legend, especially the much talked about ‘small tree ‘demarcating a small river from a big lake which when looked closely, the demarcation of the two body of water creates that fear even when the little space that separates the lake and the river is obvious.
Though the people swim at the other end of the river, the other side appears intimidating, calm, and stagnant.
Despite the huge potential of the state, the tourism sector has not performed well due to little or no attention paid to this sector, which some states in country are tapping as another source of revenue generation.
For Imo State to take its rightful position in tourism’s growth and development, and as a destination of choice, concrete steps must be taking to reposition the sector through well planned programmes and policies that will help in bringing radical changes .
According to checks by this paper, it was revealed that the lake was among the remarkable projects embarked upon by the then government of late Dr. Sam Mbakwe, the first governor of the state as the Abadaba Lake Resort. But was abandoned when that government was overthrown by the military government of major general Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) in December 31, 1983.
The Abadaba Lake Resort, which has been abandoned for over 31 years, should have been a major reference point in terms of tourism destination in Imo State alongside the Oguta Lake of Treasure Conference Centre, which has so far received a lot of attention from the state government.
The construction site and works that was done before the administration was overthrown was vandalised, and the whole place was looted and today the laudable dreams of the late Sam Mbakwe lay in ruins with other administration after him not disposed to revisiting the project.
During the regime of Governor Ikedi Ohakim, the Abadaba Lake Resort was among the tourism projects listed by his administration among tourism sites that will be upgraded to international standard.
But his government was only able to refurbish the Oguta Lake Resort which was later rebranded to Oguta Wonder Lake Resort, but Governor Rochas Okorocha criticised the project when he came on board saying it was poorly done.
He undertook a facelift of the project and rebranded it as Oguta Lake of Treasure Conference Centre, but Abadaba was forgotten.
Obowo local government is also blessed with various cultural festivals like Iwa Akwa festival, celebrated every three years by all the communities. There is the Mbomuzo festival, (community sanitation and cleanliness), Ntumamka festival, (emphasises ancestral lineage). The Egbenkwu festival, which is celebrated in September. Okonko Masquerade, Igbu, Ewu Ukwu festival, which glorifies fertility in the female folk, among other festivals.
But according to tourism practitioners, they maintained that the waterways represent a big asset that must be protected and treasured as the water asset represents great opportunities for tourism, sports, transport and business and this calls for a collective effort to maximise this asset’s potential for leisure, sports, recreation, transportation and business.
Apart from the Abadaba Lake, many other lakes that adorn the country’s landscape are worth seeing like the Kanji Lake, the Nike lake Resort in Enugu, the Chad Lake that flanks Nigeria and Chad.
The Abadaba Lake Resort project can actually enhance the growth of the state’s economy through government’s encouragement of tourism investment and funding, using policies like tax holiday for tourism related investments, where investment in tourism development. This can count for tax rebates or discount, increased access to foreign investors and funding agencies with special concession to encourage inflow of foreign capital.
The rebuilding or repositioning of the abandoned and dilapidated Abadaba Lake Resort in Obowo can be used as a tool to develop the state economy because the sector is very sustainable. Through the creation of jobs, the problem of unemployment facing the state including the slow rate of industrialisation could be eradicated. Tourism presents the state the ideal solution to this problem, if given the proper attention.
The state can take a cue from Cross River, Ekiti with the Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort and what other states are doing to promote tourism to reposition the abandoned Abadaba Lake Resort to a world-class facility.
