sirRiddy: Ife is an awesome school and she has so much time to become a great advocate! My advice would be to work hard at her LLB and while at it, she should do some volunteer work at a Law Firm or an NGO (if she is into human rights). Volunteering while studying will give her a feel of what her future career can potentially involve. She can specialize in a particular area of Law after that. Another thing I would say is that information is very important. When I decided to specialize in Law, I focused on international human rights law, which I love but I was also ignorant of the many other aspects. When I did my LLM, I met classmates who were doing cyber law, sports law, environmental law and I even have a classmate that is a lawyer for Givenchy (we are all jealous of her hahahahaha). There are so many aspects of Law that your sister specialize in (in the future) 2 Likes 1 Share |

Thank you ma for your conscientious response, so grateful. I would try my best to make her stay focused while in school, as there are lot of distractions now for young individuals. I hope she comes out of school with good grades. What caught my fancy is the 'volunteering' thing you mentioned. Do you know she can be privy to such opportunities? Do you know specific sites she should keep tabs on? Are there some practical steps she can take to improve her chances of getting good ones? I know the importance of experience and would be grateful if you state how you feel she can get this while in school without hampering her grades. She is a self motivated individual with a nice personality, but we all know what one does not know, one does not know. Thank you ma. PtitLapin: |

sirRiddy: In terms of volunteering, it is a quick way to start up her CV. Many young people in Nigeria want to go straight to a job (which is alright) but volunteer work is a great way to build knowledge and networks. NGOs are always looking for extra hands, especially on legal issues. Law Firms (the prestigious ones) might also be open to volunteers but sadly in Nigeria, you have to know someone in order to ask around about such opportunities. In case it is international volunteer experience she is looking for, there are so many options available and she doesn't need to know anyone prior to applying. I was able to volunteer at international NGOs and do an internship with the UN by simple online applications. She is only 18 and I dare say that opportunities for her will be much more, the key is to keep searching and keep an open mind! 1 Like 1 Share |

9ce thread... B.sc- Agricultural Economics M.Sc- Environmental Resource Economics Actually, have this phobia for calculations, not because I can't crack them quite alright;bt I"m just being kinda laid back and when it comes to calculations;will rather read, research and analyse theories hence my deviation from the whole economics things. However fellows,I"m thinking of deviating to environmental management for my Phd,cos of its versatility in job prospects and all also seriously looking @ environmental impact assessment, please will also like any suggestions from fellows on areas that are closely related...thanks 1 Like |

I just rounded up my Doctorate degree in Electronic Engineering with specialization in Queueing theory applications in communication systems operating at microwave bands. It was a crazy period in my life as I had to combine disciplines such as probability theory, non-Markovian queueing systems, meteorology, atmospheric physics, information theory and advanced digital communications in a rare way. To upcoming PhD candidates, I'd say be original and novel in your methodological approach to research. And publish, publish, publish to give your research a wider audience!!! 21 Likes 2 Shares |

SirShymex: Yea I was an international student. Its pretty much difficult to get a studentship and even if you do, what you get is the home rate (UK rate); you'll still have to pay the differential fee which is sometimes upto £9000 per year. GRE is not the problem (I'm extremely brilliant, intelligent and smart ), the issue to me is the number of years required to complete a PhD in the US or CA. 6 years no be beans! |

abron25:Great! We are both on the same page. We also insert transition metals into the cavity of phthalocyanine molecules. I am using Indium, Galium, Zinc and lead as my transition metals due to their heavy atom effects. Getting a good solvent system for purification is a huge task for complex molecules. |

ryd3: The good thing is that most (if not all) PhD programs in Canada comes with 4years guaranteed funding subject to certain conditions however, the funding amount varies from year to year even within a department and institution. As for province, most provinces are generally cold there are apparels for each season. As for recognition of degrees from Nigeria, from my observation, the science oriented ones with a Nigerian Masters degree are most times accepted directly into PhD while the non sciences in most cases are not. The reason for this is because the science oriented courses are practical based thus, the research are same everywhere in the world and for non science, we have a very different curriculum from theirs. 4 Likes |
