With N250,000.00 you can cultivate an acre of plantain
The N250,000.00 conveniently takes care of the cost of suckers to plant (@ N80.00/sucker), the weeding, clearing and harvesting processes.
Depending on the spacing between two suckers, you can plant up to 1000 suckers on an acre of land
Giving 5% allowance for losses, you will be harvesting 950 bunches
Your profits depends on the timing of harvest and the ruling price in the market and the density of competition.
Assuming you sell a bunch for N1000.00, you have had a successful outing already

plz reduce the selling price per bunch to n400 to 500 naira. u budget with worsecase scenerio so dt u wont be disapointed with the outcome. The best way to outline the cost is to state the no of suckers u will be planting in an acre and spacing. no of times to weed. noof times to apply manure, wateretc.

It takes 9-12 if the plantain is well feed.

world 1, respect yourself b4 i mess you up completely. You are just after how you can profit from unsuspecting young farmers. You are not just proud bt arrogant . Your main motive and objective is selling products at abnormal prices for newbies.

i know where to get the most updated suckers at a far cheaper price in dt same oyo state and may burst your bubble anytime soon. I have seen farms you posted u set up. I tell you are still old fashioned. you cannot compare a farmland dt is ploughed b4 planting and the one dt is not ploughed. i tried two in my two sites and kow the difference.

Yes.i have a small plantain farm which is not up to 4months. I also work in a bank and have had several years of professional experience as against you dt is chasing newbies up and down to sell your suckers at exhorbitant prices. Dt is the real motive of wabi- sell suckers and seeds. I dont mind descending below market women to get any info i need if i see they are smarter. For ur info, i dont sink every info i get from nairaland in, i do my research and consult mkt women too.

King maker my foot- You have to first make yourself a palace guard b4 talking of king maker. If you are so knowledgeable as you claim, you should be busy in ur farm and not chasing newbies up and down.

I am not just a banker but a professional and do a monopolistic work in the whole of SE. if i go on.vacation as i am currently in, my relief officer mus come from lagos. That is how important i am in my sector.

Besides being an officer in my bank, i have interest in stock trading, real estate, integrated farming- fishery, poultry and agric as a whole.

NB- I have never talked to anyone on nairaland like this but u asked for it. I wont even mind getting more personal if u want more.

Find below what a nairalander said abt world 1 just early this week. He saw what i didnt see ahead of time. fo....oooooo.....l
sirRiddy:
You sound haughty and insecure, sir. You need not take a swipe at anyone to prove your point. What do you mean by 'less imaginative peers'. Not everyone who is not into agric is less imaginative, you displayed crass sophistry there. Rather than this unseemly disposition, why not marshal your efforts towards achieving the objectives of the scheme?
Do not take this as a form of derision, rather try and be less malignant in trying to drive home your points. I wish you luck and keep up the wonderful work.

@corkqueen, iita has a website on internet. u can call their contact. when u tell them you are making enquiry for plantain, they will transfer ur call to the plantain dept. later they will give the no of plantain guy. His name is murphy. I dont think it is wise to post his nos here. He is sincere and will let you know if there is any. The most improved breed i bought from them abt 3months ago is said to mature btw 9to 12 months wit an improved yield per hectare (I have forgotten the exact yield).

Some sellers will go ahead and tell u the plantain matures in xdays just to sell their product to you.

i have a friend dt their father left a plantain plantation as part of his estate. The plantation is in ugwuoba and they couldnt manage it ( the dad has two wives) so what they did was contract one man to.manage the plantation. The man is based in Onitsha. My friend told.me he knows the man does everyting and they share the proceeds in a certain percentage. he also has workers dt works for him in d plantation. The plantation is very big on many hectares of land.

I planted my plantain in Anambra and visit their atleast once a month . i engage labourers if their is work to be done.

more on world 1.

world1:

Watermelon (500 seeds) N4500
Onion(3000 seeds) N6000
Tomatoes (100 seeds) N1200
Carrot (10,000 seeds) N8000
Tumeric 1kg N1500
Short 6months paw paw seeds N50 per seed
happybrother:

Are you sure you are not out to reap people off.How come that a tomato like uc 82 (10 grams of 3000 seeds) sales at 500naira.
Then the best hybrid in tomato for all Nigerian zones is 900naira for5grams (1300 seed) Even smuggled seeds from MonSanto Africa in Kenya like Anna f1 doesn't cost more than 1k per 1000seeds.
Mind what you post here people in the seed sector are watching.

securi:
I agree with you on maximising profit but not ripping people off. The case @ hand is more of rip off, imagine the margin, haba. 10% diff. can be maximising profit but above dat is pure rip off. Actions like this will further discourage ppl from farming and this forum is to further stimulate youth to go into farming. A fellow Nairalander also complained about word1, infact he wanted him to manage his plantain farm but got discouraged when he learnt from me that someone on Nairaland sold jatropha to me @ N40 whereas word1 told him N100.ln case u don't know N60 mean a lot to a young farmer and can make him loose interest in farming. He needs to relax a bit, he doesn't have to be too greedy in biz. Even as a master of the trade, if you are not affordable its a disadvantage to u cuz it means less work and opportunities and when you charge reasonably there will be inflow of work as ppl spread gospel of your good performance.

world 1 sells products n services with 120% gain from the new farmer. Wow!. This is greed of the highest order.
No wonder he does not own a farm cos he doesnt know what it takes to be a farmer rather uses farmers as his crude oil. Who wont be haughty and arrogant if u have succeeded in taking 120% from the farmer at will. I am really shaking cos this guy is an.expert in greed game. This one pass mkt women deal on fish farmers.

i am not ready to sell anything on agric section. He is not the only one selling things on this section and i have not attacked any other person. A lot of other ppl have observed his traits for a long time and if u check previous posts, i have been innocently defending him. For him to call me olodo and even dig up my previous post shows the thing has entered his head and i need to humble him. He needs to learn how to be a good sales person and stop being arrogant. So arrogant to even post that He is too Big and a king maker, when e never even reach palace guard.

I forgot to tell u dt world 1 sold suckers at N120 naira each to some nairalanders when agric section started. It was when he saw other sellers were fair and reasonable in their prices that he brought it down.

He is on serious - OPERATION KILL THEM ALL.
