President Obama has rejected the charge that he has been outmanoeuvered by Russian president Vladimir Putin, arguing that the Russian president is presiding over "a huge economic contraction" due to the Ukraine crisis.

Speaking on CNN, he rejected the notion that Putin "is the chess master and outmaneuvering the West and outmanoeuvering Mr. Obama and this and that and the other".
"Right now, he's presiding over the collapse of his currency, a major financial crisis and a huge economic contraction," Obama said in the interview recorded on Friday.

"That doesn't sound like somebody who has rolled me or the United States of America."

Afghanistan has always been the place where civilisations/empires are buried. The British Empire died in Afghanistan. Soviet Union was buried there. And America is in a debt hole, it will never be able to climb out of, due to the same place. Etc. Petrodollar/fiat is what's keeping America afloat. The Chinese are coming. So, don't underestimate Afghanistan.

Russia will diversify its economy sooner or later...and I think this will push them to hasten the process. Disappointment sometimes is actually a blessing in disguise.

You do know that Russia is actually a 'dying' country. It's population is contracting due to low birth rates and drug/alcohol abuse. Putin had a chance over the last decade to create a diversified economic super power but he blew it. It's back to bread queues for the Russians.

Same oil being passed around without any value being added ,within a period of 24hrs.
Commodities were parked in warehouses , crude oil tankers were parked offshore just for speculation purposes.
Basically for buying and selling papers purposes. The selling of derivatives( useless mortgages based securities) or useless papers was what blew up the us economy.
You are essentially paying taxes to these banks . Their profits is your misery .
The U.S. government looked the other way because the bankers have congress and most parts of the U.S government on vice-like grip.
The crash
With the government incapable of handing tax- payers money directly to these banks , they had to do this in subtle ways.
This included allowing them to continue speculating and continue driving the price of commodities sky high, while suckers pay( maga trying play in a rigged market).
In other words , these US banks can bring down any individual ,company and country at anytime.
In Russia's case , very easy.simply play with their source of income (crude oil).

The Chinese have offered Russia a leeway to start trading in yuan, and also proposed currency swap, should Russia slip into economic collapse. But we need to be more worried about the Eurozone and deflation - it seems the collapse of the Eurozone in 2015 is inevitable, unless something is done asap. If that happens, then there should be another global economic crisis - scary. And who's going to bail Europe out this time?

Putin acknowledged that Western economic sanctions over Russia's actions in Ukraine was just one factor behind Russia's economic crisis, accounting for roughly 25 to 30 percent of the ruble's troubles.

President Vladimir Putin blamed "external factors" such as oil prices and sanctions for Russia's financial crisis Thursday, but admitted he should have done more to diversify the economy.

Speaking to journalists at his annual press conference, Putin said it could take Russia two years to overcome the tough economic situation facing the country.

Half of Russian government revenue comes from oil and gas exports. If oil prices stay at $60 a barrel, the Russian economy is expected to shrink by almost 5% in 2015.

Putin said it was possible that the U.S. could be conspiring with Saudi Arabia to depress oil prices as a way of hurting Iran, Russia and Venezuela.


"We all see the lowering of the oil price. There's lots of talk about what's causing it. Could it be the agreement between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia to punish Iran and affect the economies of Russia and Venezuela? It could."

Asked about the collapse in the ruble -- the currency has lost 45% against the dollar this year -- Putin said the central bank could have acted "sooner and in a harsher way."

The bank's drastic interest rate hike last week was adequate, he said, adding that he expects rates to head lower "sooner rather than later."
