I am positing this in real time as a last resort to finding out what is wrong with my car.

It started 2days ago when i felt 2 jerks while heading home. I thought it came from the gear but yesterday it repeated, this time i concluded it was fuel pump because of its consistency. The first instance threw up CEL with 2 codes P0138 as shown in the screen shot below.

I cleared that and it never came back. I had an 80mile trip yesterday and had the jerking very serious but on my return trip the problem disappeared completely.

This morning, the car jerked twice and engine stalled preceeded by jerks 1km away from the first jerks. Am there right now.

The code i now have is P0705 and the car systems have gone gaga. D, CEL and battery light are all flashing but D sometimes stops. While P, R, N, D, D3, 2 and 1 intermitently flash or stay on.

My electician whom i have been guiding removed what i believe is the Transmission range sensor and cleaned the inside with no result.

The car will start reverse, but stalls on D We tried to drive to his workshop against my wish on D3 but it stalled after making a u turn and driving about 500m. After the stall, all the D gear positions are lit. In addition, a sound of an electrical switch is making noise.

Re: URGENT! My 2003 Accord Transmission Just Stalled. by adanny01(m): 12:53pm On Dec 21, 2014
After trouble shooting the grounds while baattery disconnectes for 20mins the sound under the dash is not there while all the gear lights are back to normal. However, 30s after starting the engine the gear 1 lights began flashin, the D started flashing then CEL came on. I didnt move the car but i know we are hopeless.

Is it that i dint know the real transmission range sensor? The one we opened is the one on the gear box side accessable from the front drivers side wheel.

I wish to note that this the first real problem i have with the car aside from suspension problems.

I am using ELM bluetooth scanner with OBD Car Doctor free app

Possible causes for P0705 are

- Faulty Park/Neutral Position Switch
- Misadjusted Park/Neutral Position Switch
- Park/Neutral Position Switch harness is open or shorted
- Park/Neutral Position Switch circuit poor electrical connection

like many people you want to be spoon feed

once you obtain the code all is need is google the meaning of the code

you will find information on the code and it will give you possible causes of the faulty

instead of googling the meaning of the code you come here and post the code instead of using the internet u are using the post the code, use it to find the meaning of the code therefore you dont have to waiting for people to respond to your thread

I have seen that and have attempted to know if the Transmission Range sensor is different from Park/Neutral switch.

Eureka!!! I will explain in some minutes but my mechanic is angry with me for misleading him when he had been suspecting the real problem. I led him in another direction of the scan results.

leave him

he is supposed to know the meaning of all codes not by head but other means eg googling if he had google he would know that the 1st two code are emissions codes they got nothing to do with jerking of the car or transmission

P0705 code is trouble causer of your problem and transmission problem

I wonder why you had to drag me back to what i already know. If it where something i didnot know i would have asked? Isnt it obvious that i used my money to buy a scanner and know how to search for related faults? For your infomation i had bookmarked engine-codes.com since over a year ago. See my todays browser history, even before posting this topic i checked that code precisely around 9.02am 20mins after the car stalled. It is a tab of my browser since morning. Do you know how many youtube videos i watched today. I found the location if the transmission range sensor on you tube after google images failed in giving me a precise location. You should hv known better.

This is it. I had water in the ECM!

2 days ago before i had the first 2 jerks, i wanted to wash the car and i noticed the foot well of the front passenger was very wet after i removed the floor mat. I allow the car dry well without replacing the carpet for some time but wondered how moisture got there since my last car wash was more than a week before.

My mechanic and i were totally lost and we called someone who specializes on gear box. Before he came, we were discussing how confusing everthing was so he suggested we try the ECM but i said thats the last resort and the scan said something different though the problems listed included ECM.

The gear specialist came and i was disappointed because he ordered some fuse tampered with which i didnt like but after getting confused himself while the car made some serious noise when he tried it, i feared the worst. He concluded that the ECM is misbehaving and water may be responsible. Viola, the ECM had water!

I started connecting the dots. I saw the ac condenser drain pipe and remembered i had a case of flooding from that pipe blockage in my office car that resulted in foul smell. Pulling it out, water gushed out. The source of flooding was found. ECM was dried and the car is perfect.

However, i am not sure the AC drain is working or still blocked since i have not seen water dropping from it so far. Tomorrow, i will make sure the drain is flowing. Other item that was tampered with is the solenoid that operates with brakes and unlocks gear lever from park.

One more, my engine RPM is lower than before and unstable especialy with A/C. It used to average at 800.

i didnt draw you back but you draw yourself back

you opened a thread trying to find some information and advice

you only explained the behaviour of the car and now after 1 or 2 of my input you start to release information about water getting in etc and some of the things you did such as finding more information etc

if you had mentioned all the information in the 1st post i wouldnt have wasted my time time trying to explain things that you would have done already

Piyke said in his post that he guessed i saw that already, i agreed with him am aware of that. I was posting while searching for the position of transmision range sensor or the park/neutral switch. I exhausted my battery and data at the same time while stressed up in finding the real fault. You dont expect a chronicle in that situation.

New update.

After trying all means to get my engine idle speed stable it stabilized by itself 24hrs later, that is, this evening. Secondly, the gear shifter lock that wasnt working started working about the same time the idle speed stabilized.

I have noticed a difference in the gear shifting. During fast acceleration, shifting is very smooth but its more pronounced on slow acceleration especially 1-2. Downshifting is not smooth from 2-1. It is strong like i suddenly stepped on the brakes. Overall, the gear is crisp and sharper but with the downsides of not so smooth up and downshift between gear 1 and 2.

Guess you didn't perform the idle learn procedure after the repair. This should always be done any time the ECU is reset or the throttle body is cleaned. As for the shifting, don't have a clue on what's going on

Guilty as charged.

I just didnt think the car was that 'smart'. I do remember that my office car had always too low idle after battery removal. That one had electromechanical trottle pedal against my the 03 Accord with a purely mechanical trottle pedal. After looking all over the trottle body for idle atjustment i realised that it is ECu controled and will require a relearning process thats why it took a day to.

On the gear, i am fully convinced that the ECU has control over that too which has now relearned its previous settings since everything i have noticed have return back to normal.

The funny thought i have is, why did the ECU (probably) lock the selector to Park and start working only when the relearning process was obviously completed. I see a connection. The ECU wanted me to relearn it before driving?!

Almost everything has returned. I confirmed my ac drain condensation pipe is discharging normally. Only problem now which started yesterday is that the drivers door central locking mechanism has failed. So the remote does not completely lock or open doors

Your driver's door actuator for the central lock may be bad. Having this problem currently, would be changing mine soon though

O2 might be bad you will need to scan and get live data while it is warm, read the voltage of the O2 sensors and check if normal there is a youtube video that will help you understand what i meant it migth just be it is not connected properly

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCJgnJAfbmg

Your idle going from 850-500 might be a vacuum leak or dirty throttle body.

Good thing you have learnt to scan first some other folks would have been taken for a transmission by now grin

I dont understand the self diagnosing stuff you mean. Do you mean i should not scan my car, i should take it to an experience center for a 3k or more per scan session? Or invite a 'professional mechanic' who has no idea what a scan is to come and diagnose an obvious electrical problem in a fairly modern car? Do you know the town or location i had the break down and if a professional mechanic is available? From my post i believe it was obvious i wasnt alone since i had a electrical mechanic with me all through but who had no skills of scanning a modern car. The essence of my openning post is to find assistance in the diagnosis. I later posted that we invited a gear specialist because the only DTC code i had was gear related.

Its a shame u don't understand mi n didn't tell u to call road side mech.if u would av called a professional earlier,time n effort would av bn saved.buy a billion scanners,u will still need a pro to rectify such issue.na d 2-3k b ur problem.i rest my case

A lot of mechanics in Naija do not use diagnostic scanning devices so if one chooses to get one to help him know more about his car. I dont think its a problem. What maybe upsetting to the OP is the way he was addressed earlier. Definitely, a mechanic has to do the real repair most times but the importance of an OBD II scanner cannot be over emphasized. No more no less. Lets no derail pls. Due respect to previous posters.

Its a shame that i tried to let you understand but you just wouldnt. The ones i called that have been with me were the only professionals i had immediate access to at d location. Do you expect me to call a professional from Japan or what?

May be you should give me the number of this professional you are talking about because by your standards i dont have his/her number. Can i send him a flight ticket to come to Sambisa forest next time my car breaks down around there.

I dont know how else to politely explain to you o! In your line of thinking you didnt consider that the 'professional' may be 1000km away? Or that the professional may cost me an arm or leg? Or that there is a possibility that i know more than the available professional? Or simply i dont know any professional? Haba!

Merry xmas everyone.

Thanks for the suggestions but every thing i complainwd has come back to normal including the idle. Apparently the ECU needed to relearn. My O2 live readings are good and fluctuate like they should. Note that i recently changed one of the two (B1 S1) which was bad since i got the car. Right now my CEL is off.

However, the last DTC code i had was P0420-Catalyst system efficiency below threshold. I cleared it and it has not returned. I cleared it because i cleaned my trottle body which could cause it.

Nigeria of today requires that every motorist know some stuff about their cars. I still remember an ugly experience I had at one of the so called 'professionals'; I mean the kind of place where you chill off in an AC cooled lounge watching DSTV and sipping juice while they work on your vehicle. Overgauged my oil the first time, then changed my brakes for a huge sum, claiming it was OEM only for me to discover it was the cheapest & useless AUTOBOSS brand weeks later...
These 2 experiences and lastly my asking my mechanic for an ATF change as per maintenance schedule and he declined saying the gearbox may fail afterwards made me forage into DIY which has been a very good experience. I also know when to seek help on tougher tasks and I perfectly understand you Adanny. Keep the DIY spirit up.

N10,500 6 years ago. The thing about the ATF stuff is that a lot of Nigerian mechanics and driver's alike don't respect ATF requirements, they just pour in any type of ATF and Honda transmissions are unforgiving when this is done.

No it wasn't at a Honda Place, unfortunately Honda Place doesn't accept American specs. I've tried both Abj, PH and Enugu branches.
