For postgraduate candidates wishing to specialise in Electronic and Communication engineering. The contemporary areas of interest are as thus: 1. Network convergence of heterogeneous networks 2. White space communication and spectrum optimisation 3. M-ary modulation schemes for n x n MIMO systems preferably with advanced OFDM and/or IDMA 4. Regulations, framework and protocols for cloud computing or simply cloud computing management 5. Spatial modulation using Shannon-compliant baseband modulation schemes 6. Frameworks and cross-layer designs for the implementation of Internet of Things (IoT). That's all I can give for now... |

Roundabout:ok, just asking because of the misinformation usually flying around that you have to go thru conversion first there and in other federal schools even if yoy have phd grade. |

Ezechinwa:for M.Sc, dere is but not in the way it is for Bsc. For Msc, d main goal if u want to continue in academics is making a PhD grade which is 60% in most schools in d country. For PhD, ders no class. Its either u r awarded d certificate or not depending on merit after presentation of one's abstract. |

Timothy3113:hahaha...I understand. When it comes to job, its mostly academic like working in NVRI, jos; IITA, ibadan and dier likes. if u gather degrees together, no private establishment may employ you except a rare few cos they want practical hands and not theoretical hands. Best is develop ur interest urself and know wat area of d course u fit in d most. Take for example, am into animal products and processing which means I can also work at some food processing industries which dealswith meat or milk. So firstly, find ur feet ind field bro. #safe |
Re: Thread For PHD Students by Roundabout: 8:31pm On Dec 20, 2014 |
Synthase:Well, I won't say it is misinformation. There is an element of truth in it. Most Federal universities tend to uphold the policy of not accepting, DIRECT for PhD, interested students who did not obtain their master's degrees from their universities. For instance, OAU and FUNAAB won't allow you to proceed, even if you graduated from UI with a PhD grade!( you will be given Mphil/PhD). UI metes out the same treatment to prospective PhD students from other universities too. But, in FUTA, to the best of my knowledge, the basic requirement is a high PhD grade. However, they may also be using other criteria in their selection process... |

Hi, FemiOja, I actually liked ur post Guess we are in the same boat! I use globular clusters to understand how early-type galaxies form and evolve. Globular clusters are star clusters found ubiquitously around early-type galaxies. They are generally old (some of the oldest known objects in the Universe) and are formed from the same stellar materials in the same starburst event. This makes them interesting "laboratories" to study galaxy formation and evolution. Galaxy star light is faint when you probe far-out from the centers of galaxies, so we need luminous discrete tracers e.g. globular clusters, planetary nebulae etc., to understand energy and mass distribution in galaxies, where dark matter dominates the dynamics. So for the price of one, we get information about the chemical content, age and dynamics when we study the globular cluster complement of early-type galaxies. I'm involved in the SLUGGS survey where we use the world's best optical telescope (Keck telescope) to study the kinematics and dynamics of nearby galaxies in the local Universe. Its really exciting! I've visited the Keck observatory twice in one year! If you want more details, I'll be happy to have a chat with you, or with any other person! So what's your research about?? |

What is the use of PhD holders to the Nigerian society?! Nothing! None! Zero! Zip! Nada! They are all annoying to me when they can't do anything to fix the poor state of the nation with their high knowledge. Bleh! |

Nice thread... BSc Elect/ Elect Engineering - Akoka, Nigeria MSc Power Engineering- Cottbus, Germany PHd Energy Distribution- Bauchi, Nigeria The basic idea is energy access, using mini-grids to the rural folks with no connection to the central utility. Energy sources will be renewable in nature, with focus solar PV and pico-hydro systems, especially in a place with huge potential. Hopefully, i will be visiting a potential site in Benin in January. Load analysis of this site will be made and possible renewable mini-grid will be designed to cater for the basic needs of this region. 1 Like 1 Share |

How many of the PhD holders can show me their researches and works on peer-to-peer review sites? None, I guess! They aren't useful to the progress of that nation. It is all about having that white cardboard papers! |

Although students can b lazy but I have seen intelligent researchers been frustrated by supervisors .PhD in Nigeria you go no wen u start u don't know when u go finish am . |
