agaugust: Wannabe accountant In Nigeria's case, the fall of the Naira meant the depletion of your foreign reserves in an attempt to save it. Close to $30 bn was spent trying to save the Naira and in the end that didn't help. Your depleted foreign reserves is a great injury to an economy that knows only importation in the main. The fall of the Naira also meant that your rebased GDP has lost upwards of $ 40 bn in value. The weakness of the Naira means that the cash in the hands of every Nigerian will buy less. You do know that "cash is a store of value", don't you? Well, you cash stores less value today. My friend, all these things and more spell weakness. Your question about Japan shows how much of a simpleton you are. If you really were educated in 'these things', you wouldn't even have asked it. Japan has the fundamentals. Nigeria does not, which is why I speak only about Nigeria and not Japan or anyone else. The fall of the Naira has exposed the weaknesses of the Nigerian economy. Not that we didn't know about them anyway. http://businessdayonline.com/2014/12/oil-price-crisis-exposes-failure-of-nigerias-economy-managers/ 2 Likes |

mzilakazi:how sophisticated were your weapons?,wasnt it you who claimed that SANDF troops werent able to take any sophisticated weapon into CAR due to france's jealousy and suspicion?.to the best of my accurate knowledge,SANDF went into CAR with rifles and a few armoured patrol/surveillance vehicles, how then did they 'defeat' the young but well armed seleka rebels?. dont even compare the NA with the weak SANDF in terms of infantry skills,we'd slaughter your troops for chrismas!. 1 Like |

@dievluit,you forget that there is no universal definition of what a "frontier market" is,a frontier market and an emerging market are closely tied together, though an emerging market is considered the most mature, but it is opened for debate which of the markets is truly progressive on the long run.a common trait of the frontier market is the trademark lack of a stock exchange, but then again, nigeria has a stock exchange;so,can nigeria be considered a frontier market?.perhaps, five years ago, nigeria could have been considered a frontier, but today,it is in doubt what countries like nigeria can be called,we are an emerging frontier market;which makes us an emerging economy.contrary to your presumptious claims that nigeria has no adequate infrastructure nor manufacturing capacity on ground to be considered an emerging export oriented economy,we have an emerging industry in automobile, textile and petrochemicals.how many refineries does SA have?,you speak of shale boom, but how many oil cracking facility does SA have? |

EVarn: Whether there is a universal definition of a frontier market or not, Nigeria remains a frontier market by ALL AVAILABLE DEFINITIONS. Nigeria has no fundamentals or sophistication that would make it a proper emerging market, which is why BRICS did not even cough when Nigeria became the biggest by GDP in Africa. And to prove my point, Argentina has been considered ahead of Nigeria >>>> http://www.ipsnews.net/2014/06/argentina-once-more-on-the-map-invited-by-brics/ "Emerging frontier market"? There is no such thing. No market wants to be a frontier, so you cannot emerge to be a frontier. You want to be a developed market, so you emerge as such - hence, emerging market. http://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/092013/difference-between-emerging-and-frontier-markets.asp Your automobile industry was built based on the advice and support of your more sophisticated brother, South Africa. http://www.nigeriaautosummit.com/speakers/alexander-erwin-invited/ http://www.iol.co.za/business/news/sa-forges-links-with-nigeria-in-motor-sector-1.1759430 Even financing purchases will have "South Africa written over it". >>> http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/10/fg-signs-agreement-safrica-bank-car-finance/ You don't have the institutions, my friend. You don't have the structures. You don't have the systems. WHICH proves my point yet again, South Africa has the sophistication. Nigeria does not. And no, you have no export orientated petrochemicals industry outside of crude if you import finished product. For a crude producer, that's an indictment. You even are the biggest importer of Kerosene from the US, even though the US will have nothing to do with your crude. Ironic. http://businessdayonline.com/2014/05/nigeria-emerges-biggest-importer-of-kerosene-from-us/ The Nigerian economy is primitive my friend and your "advantages of devaluation stance" recognises that. Nigeria does not have a manufacturing industry capable TODAY of being a significant source of foreign earnings. You wouldn't have waxed lyrical about your "advantages of devaluation" if you thought that you had things in place. You yourself recognises the fact that you do not have things in place. And it is not South Africa that relies on oil for its foreign reserves, so fracking in South Africa is irrelevant from that angle. Fracking in South Africa is not about exports but it is about moving away from coal. But seeing as you mentioned this, South Africa has more refining capacity than Nigeria and the irony is that South Africa has no oil. >>> http://www.punchng.com/business/energy/nigeria-lags-behind-african-counterparts-in-refining-capacity/ And please quote me if you are responding to me. I check my mentions not the whole page. 1 Like 2 Shares |

EVarn: The answer to your question is inside your question We smashed Seleka simply due to our infantry skills and superior situation awareness and tactical maneuvers. We pulled them into carefully set up killing feilds, where we brought 80mm mortars and 12,5mm HMG's to bear on confined areas Once they countered and started turning our flanks, we pulled back and let them walk into the next killing field. Nigerian infantryman are poorly trained, this is a well known fact - by comparison it takes a recruit 2 years of training to become a rifleman in the SANDF |

patches689: You did not smash Seleka, the evidence we can all see is, Seleka smashed the SANDF aside, and took over the government a couple hours after their Encounter with the SANDF. The only killing zone we saw are those of dead SANDF troops. Reuters, AFP, AP all news sources on the ground confirm your troops begged for mercy. Quoting Reuters "A source with the United Nations in Bangui said the South Africans had asked for assistance from french forces to help them leave the country after suffering heavy losses during fighting with Seleka Rebels, Reuters reports". The Nigerian Infantry man goes from Recruit to the field in 8 months, standard training duration. Your soldiers spent 2 years in training and still could not defeat a bunch of hoe and cutlass wielding farmers. You'll need 10- 15 years of training to fight a Nigerian Soldier. Here are the facts of the SANDF. The SANDF is a poorly trained force. The SANDF is a HIV riddled Force. The SANDF has the world's oldest Infantry. The SANDF is a largely inexperienced force. The SANDF is critically deficient in skill, ethos and motivation, your defence review points this out. The SANDF also lacks lift capabilities critical in mission deployments, it only has 3 operational C-130's. 2 Likes |

dievluit:what are "all available definitions of frontier market"?,a frontier market is an emerging market, the difference is that frontier has a smaller industry,is more consumer based and has a weaker trade policy.Nigeria has already gone past a frontier market, tell me how many frontier markets have a stock exchange?.for a country to have a stock market, there must be facilities on ground to support trade and barter of national stock, major market parameters must to be considered for smooth transaction in major stock and investments.if a country has little or no 'stock',how will it have a stock market?.your claims about SA helping us in the automobile and financial industry is insignificant, the fact that SA already have an automobile industry that is willing to invest in nigeria's burgeoning automobile industry doesnt necessarily mean that you are "helping" us,its an arrangement of mutual convenience.we import kerosene because of the production cost, nigeria has 3 refineries |

patches689:yet again, you make the same blunder that you fellow saffers have been making.even if you managed to draw seleka rebels into death traps using 'superior' infantry skills, what did you kill them with?,or did you draw them into 'killing fields' simply to teach them how to dance?.mzilakazi once claimed that SANDF troops went into CAR unprepared and with little arms and ammunitions to train government troops. |

DieVluit: Nigeria has NOT spent $30 billion to save the naira, do you know how big $30 billion is? It's bigger than the whole economy of many African countries. Nigeria is a peculiar country, we have 3 different foreign reserve accounts in dollars. 1. Excess crude oil account, that was depleted to buffer the naira 2. Sovereign wealth account 3. Foreign reserve account (Universal type) was $40 billion about a year ago, still stands at $38 billion last month. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/11/foreign-reserve-now-38bn-okonjo-iweala/ Nigeria is not South Africa. Also, as an accountant with better knowledge of economics than you do, I can technically say that national currencies of any country in the world can swing up and down, doe not change the status of the country as long as it's other micro and macro economic fundamentals remain strong. All you pick on is one fundamental, there are 4 main indices to measure an economy; Interest rate Exchange rate Growth rate Inflation rate Backed up by other factors; Debt ratio Dollar reserves CPI International agency ratings Boy, you don't know Macro-Economics, you see less than a one-eyed man . 1 Like |
