This thread was borne out of the rich benefits I have derived from a much advanced thread - Thread For PhD Students. Though I aspire to bag one someday, I know I have to start from somewhere. I have followed and enjoy first-hand information that has been, and will be of great help in the future.

Well, I would start off. I had a B.Eng in Electrical/Electronics Engineering; and currently on an M.Sc program in Electronics & Computer Engineering (Nigeria). I would like us to share ideas, topics, questions, discuss our struggles and challenges so that others, both current and intending students in any field/discipline can benefit.

You have a great combination there (Elec/Comp), one of the emerging fields now is Artificial intelligence. Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques are now being used by the practicing engineer to solve a whole range of hitherto intractable problems be it communication, production, environmental, biomedical etc. I have used AI mostly for environmental and bio-medical applications. You may look at the AI and see what you can do about it.

These are some of the works done using AI:

1. A combined negative selection algorithm–particle swarm optimization for an email spam detection system

2. A multi-agent system for distribution grid congestion management with electric vehicles

3. Neuro-fuzzy approach for online message scheduling

4. In-situ bioremediation for petroleum contamination: A fuzzy rule-based model predictive control system

5. Shape optimization of free-form steel space-frame roof structures with complex geometries using evolutionary computing

These are interesting and deeply practical-based works....they will suit Africa ....

Wow! Thank you for your much-needed reply. The truth is, most times, we (in Nigeria) are only disposed to the 'limited' courses offered by the Institution. We've got courses framed up into AI too...but sadly, we can but try to study about them the much we can. We have great lectures, though; nonetheless, being a good student is much more dependent on the student, not the lecturer pa say. I am already delving into the study of AI as you rightly stated.

I will strongly advocate for a little of Artificial Intelligence incorporated into my thesis. I'm a great fan of AI.

M.Sc, Petroleum Geology and sedimentology (Nigeria), looking forward to starting my Ph.D. As soon as possible when I deliver safely this MSc pregnancy.

In all, MSc Geology in Nigeria not a small matter ooo... Just hoping on God to see me through successfully, especially in finance matter.

Surely you will love AI cos is interesting. Even many students or researcher have enjoyed the output from AI. During the recent Honk Kong protest, when the government of HK switched off mobile/internet communication, the smart guys made use of AI to communicate via Bluetooth in-pair fuzzy networks.....Therefore, AI is used or implemented during crisis where there is no functional networks.

In a few years time, I will be back when I have enrolled for LL.M or MBCL. Till then space booked.

Well, I believe it depends on your passion. I barely have any idea of the variety of options open for the Business or Management world. I could speak for my discipline, at least. However, all is about passion.

fellow geologist....I would like to enrol for my masters degree program in petroleum geology or geophysics after my NYSC next yr July! please can u tell which university would be preferable for it

Almost all the Universities(Federal) in Nigeria are the same when it comes to postgraduate degree in Geology.
I'm currently doing mine in University of Ilorin due to her stable academic calender that is without any interference with ASUU strike or other body, and I did my B.Sc from state university.

Just choose school of your choice and make more inquiry about them as to programs available, lecturers available, and most importantly the cost.

P.S: As you will be finishing service June, I believe Unilorin is still the best for you because the school starts post graduate academic session far ahead than any other school in Nigeria.

For your Msc, you really need to work hard. I can talk about my UK university experience . It is moodle based. You have 8 modules or more to complete and you will need to present your final thesis. Your thesis must be free from any form of academic dishonesty. Your works and your modules will be subjected to turn it in. The system is to check for originality and any form of plagiarism will be penalised. The Havard style referencing is a must for you to master if you want to succeed. Admissions for Msc is not really difficult. All you have to do is to apply for your masters and wait for that acceptance. Once you are admitted and you pay your fees you are set to go. You will be taught in details. You will have access to all the materials you need to succeed. The libraries, physical and online are there for you to access free. I graduated with a merit and am sure most Naija graduated with distinction. It's all about doing your required exams and assignments. Some modules are only assessed by assignments while for some modules, you have to do exam and assignments. Some also involves group work. There are also some modules you have to do presentation. So you need to have what it takes to defend your presentation. During the presentation, your mates and various lecturers will be there. You will be asked probing questions that will require you to answer intelligently.

For a Naija sharp brain, none of these will be a problem to you, I can assure you.

So, without wasting time, search for that UK school that's is doing your course of choice and apply.

It is very important that you study the brochure of your intended school. Look at the course content apart from the course it self. This is to prepare you for the challenges and tasks ahead. The culture of the school is also very important. Deadlines for assignment submission is also key. I remember failing a module because I submitted a week late. After doing the course during the next session, I scored 84 but was pegged to 40. So, I beg una; please don't joke with submission date. There is nothing like my Mama sick or I get home troubles. People with terrible stories have distinction and meet up with their deadlines. So you need no excuse.

FUTA is not bad as to post graduate program!

Secured admission but don't know much about their MSc electrical program.

I was surprised when I was told NUC increased the duration of the program from 12 months minimum to 18 months.

it will be nice if we can share links to scholarships and grants available to Nigerian MSC students

Since you have admission secured already, you can go there and make more inquiry, especially from senior colleague.
Be proud of what you have and don't allow anybody to poison your mind.

na.. more towards electronics/communications/Intelligent systems...

I studied Mechanical Engineering at degree level from the federal university of tech, minna and graduated with a 2.1(a 4 pointer) and currently on NYSC but intend starting my masters in Engineering management(project management option) from the university of Ibadan immediately after my service year(july 4th, 2015). I made the choice cos I find that aspect of mechanical engineering more interesting and more so with a masters degree in Engineering management you don't need MBA again and securing job will extend to other aspects(I.e banks, logistics, procurement etc) and not just engineering firms. My confusion stems from me choosing either to search for a job or start the masters from my own personal savings! Advise needed o!

Well, you need to confirm very well. Probably from PG school because I got the info from your school which happens to be my school as well.

Ajuwaya. Finish your NYSC first. Things will be clearer before then. I will advise you start applying for jobs now not wait until you're through with NYSC.
Most MSC program are flexible and can be done together with a job.
