FG Postpones 35% Levy On Used Cars Till April 30 by billante(m): 11:54am On Jan 01, 2015
The federal government has deferred the 35 per cent levy on used cars imported into the country till April 30 this year.

A statement on Wednesday by the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, National Automotive Council (NAC), Aminu Jalal, said: “We saw some publications today (Wednesday) saying that used cars will cost more from January 1, 2015 as the 35 per cent levy will be charged. This levy would be further deferred to 30 April 2015.”

Giving reason for the deferment, Jalal said the federal government intends to balance vehicle supply and affordability with the production by the assembly plants.

The Director General said: “The government earlier deferred the imposition of the levy on used cars to December 31, 2014 to enable assembly plants ramp up enough production to satisfy demand.”

He said the government had asked the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okojo-Iwaela, to extend the levy deferment on used cars to April 30, 2015.

He explained that the automotive policy has five elements, one of which is market development, adding that under market development, tariffs are increased on Fully Built Unit (FBU) vehicle imports.

According to him, these tariffs are to be reduced gradually over the years, as the vehicle assembly and local content operations gain momentum.

The Nigerian market, he said has approximately 400,000 vehicles annually, with about 300,000 imported as used, which was the reason “the government has to balance vehicle supply and affordability with the production by the assembly plants.”

He said measures in the policy to ensure vehicle supply and affordability are that completely knock down (CKD) and semi knock down (SKD) vehicle tariffs will be 0 per cent, 5 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively; assembly plants to assembly affordable vehicles; Assembly plants will import two FBU at concessionary duty for every one CKD/SKD they assemble in 2014/2015 and that it will be one to one in 2016/2017.

He said new investors would also be able import FBU at concessionary duty in numbers to fill the gap between the supply by the assembly plants and demand.
Another component is the establishment of affordable vehicle financing scheme to enable Nigerians purchase new vehicles.

He said VON is assembling Hyundai and Nissan cars; PAN is assembling Peugeot cars; IVM started assembling cars; and Dana Motors is assembling Kia cars.

He stated: “VW, Honda and Renault, amongst others, are expected to start assembly operations next year. VON, IVM and Kia also have cars costing N1.5m-N2.0m. So the industry can produce the vehicles we need in 2015.”

Jalal explained that the arrangements for the establishment of the affordable vehicle finance scheme suffered delay of about four months due to the Ebola Viral Disease.

He explained: “The staff of the collaborating bank, Wesbank of South Africa, delayed their planned trip to Nigerian to set up operations from September 2014 to January 2015. Hence the new date for the start of operations of the financing scheme is April 2014.”

Jonathan has no clear agenda for Nigeria. He is just playing Politics.

If you think the postponement is out of love for the suffering masses, then you have been deceived. He is just buying time.

UNLESS YOU KNOW YOUR MISTAKES OF 2014, YOU ARE LIKELY TO REPEAT THEM IN 2015

Being in my early Twenties, I sat down to analyse how I’d likely spent the 365 days of my 2014 and I came to the conclusion that if I has spent:
6 hrs sleeping Daily = 91.25 days
1 hrs eating Daily = 15.23 days
9 hrs at work/school Daily = 136.86 days
1 hrs for domestics/bathing/other Daily = 15.23 days
1 hrs Facebook/Blogs/News Daily = 15.23 days
1 hrs chatting BBM/Whatapp Daily = 15.23 days
1 hrs on the road/moving Daily = 15.23 days
1 hrs Personal Help Daily = 15.23 days
1 hrs Reading Daily = 15.23 days
2 hrs TV/Movies Daily = 30.46 days
24 HOURS TOTAL = 365 DAYS
Note: The above analysis does not include any social or religious activities like church and parties.
Isn't this the way you've likely spent your 2014
To some youths this might look way too productive. As they have spent a minimum of 4 hours on chatting platforms (BBM/Whatapp), unknown number of hours watching season and non-seasonal movies, more time spent reading blogs, going to parties and unnecessary social gatherings.
To some it might have been more calm but time invested in reading booking and engaging in activities that might not have changed anything about them or see them become better persons.
I don’t know what it was for you but you might have to seat down and break down your year into days and minutes and you might notice how much 1 hours amounts to every 365 days…..
Imagine having prayed or read your bible for 1 hour everyday….
Read your academics books for 1 hour everyday….
Practised a new skill for 1 hour everyday…
Read a self help book for 1 hour everyday…
The list could go on and on …
We are just a few hours to the end of 2014 YES. 2014 IS GONE!!! But
2015 is here, offering us an opportunity for a fresh start to make better and informed decisions, to choose wisely and act wisely too. Am not trying to get you to make resolutions that’d last the next 4 days. NO!! Rather am trying to bring to your understand that in the next 365, every minute and every second would count and how you've spent it is going to come hunting if we fail to spend 2015 right. Here are a few tips that might help.
UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CANNOT DO ANYTHING IN YOUR OWN POWER, SEEK GOD FIRST!!!
MAKE PLANS, MAKE PLANS, MAKE PLANS AND STICK TO THEM!!!
BE QUICK AND COURAGEOUS IN MAKING DECISIONS AND EXECUTING THEM!!!
MINIMIZE TIME SPENT IN ACTIVITIES WHEN NECESSARY AND MULTI-TASK WHEN POSSIBLE!!!
WORK MORE AND PLAY LESS!!!
MOST IMPORTANTLY----------- START RIGHT!!!
Have a fulfilled 2015.
