Is it not better to be dismissed that to be sentenced to death? Imagine going to die for nothing without better equipments. How can they fight boko haram ill-equiped abeg?
They should be thanking their stars.

What are you saying my dear, these people have been in service for like what 15 years, 30 years etc. What exactly are you suggesting to go back to? Don't you think the possibilities of join the enemy might be an option. Remember they have families.

Well, at first read, there is the tendency to feel bad for the soldiers involoved in the dismissal but if any of you crying foul took time to watch the video of boko boys slaughtering armless civilians with no means of fighting back, arms restricted behind their back and being shot at close range and thrown into the river, non of you will ever pity whatever fine or punishment the army hierarchy deem fit to hand over to 203 soldiers with 30 rounds of bullets and still fail to go to battle where mere shooting some few rounds of bullet into the air would have saved the lives of countless civilians...

A particular robbery @ awka of which 5 banks were robbed same time somtym in 2008 or 2009 was said to have been done by guys wt military tact.

Imagine what 203 unemployed soldiers could do to the society, if they decide to go bad.

. Let them all go bad. They shall meet their waterloo like most robbers do. What is wrong with you all? All you are saying is the Army should condone indiscipline and incompetence? What these guys did is tantamount to what the police officers that let Kabiru Sokoto escape did. And what all of you are implying is that they shouldn't be punished for such gross misconduct.

Never heard of a Type 80, only Type 56.

Forget about paper specifications, when you're at the battle front and have to sustain prolonged fire with the enemy, that's when you'd find out which weapon is preferable.
it s a machine gun which fires 7.62 ammo sir

No, it's not true, it's not just any order. The military Act, section 56(1) says a lawful command. If the order or command is not lawful don't expect any sensible soldier to obey such order cos they are not robots. Let dem get good lawyers to appeal their dismissal jo. God will fight for them.

That is what some of this cowardly idiots here who would never serve in the army do not know.
An order which is not lawful can not be obeyed, and if obeyed that soldier bears the full consequence of his actions.

You have just shown you have no clue, 30 rounds!
This is clearly why BH are winning this war, which is won in every battle
If a company of soldiers is in a fire fight, all BH have to do is hold position till NA run out of ammo and then attack their line, they must know this by now given I know.

A rifleman has a job like no other, the primary tool his gun which needs supply of ammunition , 30 rounds of ammunition would never do against BH technicals , apc and marauding BH vampires. The insecurity and death of those villagers lies with the NA command and FG. for those soldiers to do their job they must be adequately equipped.

Those guys have seen their colleagues die and they know why(because they ran out of bullets or had no support when they needed it), all they see is a suicide mission and the reward is not enticing enough to inspire such acts of valour.

Honestly in a sane country the CO should ve been the fist to be court-marshalled. Soldiers are expected to be given atleast 3 loaded magazines each, and u give them just one magazine each and order them to go and fight BH. Is that not suicidal? That order is not a lawful one. As long as the soldiers know that they are entitled to atleast 90 rounds each they won't obey such an order. If they were given the right qty of rounds and they refused to obey that would ve been a different issue. Let them get good lawyers to defend them pls, it's there in the Armed Forces Act, section 56(1).

You don't agree with NA in their decision to dismiss the 203?

No I don't, actions need be taken to understand the reasoning behind the CO only issuing 30 rounds without support or resupply plan , amounts to gross negligence.

Yes all men need to be cautioned for disobedience but not dismissed without compensation.

I don't know of any army commands who plans to move 203 men into BH territory covertly would they dress as villages or would they use a trojan horse! A flash attack yes a covert one I think not.

For a flash attack to be sucessful they would need aerial support , motar fire and loads of fire power. 30 rounds each for an AK47 does not even cut it

No soldier is asked to go to battle with 30 bullets!
That would hardly last one hour in a fire-fight!
you guys should stop lying for these cowards that exposed innocent Nigerians to death by boko haram!
Each unit has a supply section and the duty of the officers is to make sure the riflemen have food and ammunition and arms to deal with the enemy.
if the riflemen cannot fight, the officers themselves are dead!

Are you calling the soldiers liars ! , the report at no time dismissed the fact that the soldiers rebelled against the poor equipment provided, the reason for their dismissal is because they disobeyed the order.

FG and NA command exposed innocent nigerians to BH menace not the fighting men, I find your resolve most rude and annoying angry

Say all u can it is because you or any of your relations are not involved in this war that's why you are making such comment. Can this happen in advanced countries? Do you know the fire power of a single marine on US soil? Do you know what type of equipment a marine carries to battle?. Do you think is easy to face an enemy with just 30 rounds of Ammo? Its clear that Top shots and Gens don't won't the war to end. Some of you just come here and talk trash.

For me,I see nothing wrong asking for support weapons but what I see wrong is the willingness to go to war with these support weapons. I recently watch an attack by BH on an army barrack in the North, whre soldier took heel and BH looted all the weapondary in the barrack arsenal. I am confused abt the whole issue because I pity the soldiers(in service and those dismisses) and at same time,am afraid abt our defenceless country Nigeria including the recent withdrawal from supporting the palestinian freedom by Nigerian govt, then why did we join the islamic organisation in the first place? This country is in chambles,I pray these doesn't complicate our problems.

Its OK if you don't agree.

The Army is at war not at Picnic, war situations are not always cozy/comfortable, its not a must combat situation will be as every soldier wants that's why the Army is not for kids, that's why they are trained..so you want to tell me if the soldiers are cornered by an enemy troops, with 30rounds each, you mean they won't resist? These are soldiers we are talking about here and this is a war situation.

Don't be sentimental here, I know your are quick to admonish whatever the NA/FG does but dismissing those soldiers is even a form of weakness on the part of the army, these said soldiers if found wanting should be executed as a form of deterrent.

Remember they were ordered to stand down, their weapons taken and all that, they were moved to barracks maiduguri (away from front line). They disobeyed and left they Maiduguri barracks on their own and travelled home...to me that's gross indiscipline and total disregard to orders which is punishable.

You hear things like 30boko haram dudes chased out 1000 soldiers away from a town. Thats becos of these people not worth the uniform

Due to some of these attitude toward fighting the insurgent, this war have lasted more than it should and these soldiers have made mockery of their fallen brothers.

Try and also understand what you read before forming an opinion...the soldier narrating on the thread was saying what happens to him(with regards to the truck and stuffs) I suppose. He wasn't speaking for the whole 203soldiers. Don't make it look as if all of them were collected from the same battalion.

Be neutral in order to understand the situation.

You have no clue, you speak as thou the NA command her blameless, this army is a broken army, morale is low , corruption is high , army generals grow fat, gallant Officers die young and all this is making infantry men disloyal and angry , when they are offered poor quality equipment and have had few experiences of being left out there at the mercy of BH by their commanders.

I'm sure if faced with the realities of war you'd act no different.

Like you I saw that same video, and I counted no more than 15 soldiers(my wildest over-estimation) fleeing into the mountains, and more than 50 BH men and technicals.

Put simply , there was not enough men to protect that arms depot, when they were finally over-run they fled, their only let-down was not destroying the cache of ammunition before fleeing, but most likely they had no time to do that.

For those blaming the soldiers, I guess it just shows we don't value Nigerian lives. The people that value their soldiers treat them with utmost respect for the enormous sacrifices they make and give them absolute support to get the much desired victory. This video clip show president obama's unscheduled visit to troops in afghanistan. The following is some extracts of the speech from the 8th minute to about 11th minute. Very inspiring and motivating:

.....I have made a promise to all of you who serve, I will never send you into harm's way unless its absolutely necessary. I anguish, in thinking about the sacrifices that so many of you make. That's why I will never send you out unless it is absolutely necessary, BUT THAT'S ONLY PART OF THE PROMISE BECAUSE THE OTHER PART OF THE PROMISE IS WHEN IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY THAT YOU WILL BE BACKED UP BY A CLEAR MISSION, AND THE RIGHT STRATEGY, AND YOU WILL HAVE THE SUPPORT TO FINISH THE JOB TO GET THE JOB DONE and I am confident that all of you are going to get the job done right here in Afghanistan. I am confident of that[...Applauds...]. That's why I ordered more troops and civilians here into afghanistan shortly after taking office. That's why we took a hard look and forged a new startegy AND COMMITTED MORE RESOURCES in December. That's why we pushed our friends and alies and partners to PONY UP MORE RESOURCES themselves of AIDS .......Many of the troops that I ordered to Afghanistan have already arrived and more are on the way. AND WE'LL CONTINUE TO WORK WITH CONGRESS TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU'VE GOT THE EQUIPMENT THAT YOU NEED particularly as we complete our draw down in Iraq. WE'RE PROVIDING MORE HELICOPTERS. wE'RE PROVIDING MORE INTELLIGENCE, MORE SPECIAL FORCES. MORE ARMOURED VEHICLES THAT CAN SAVE LIVES. HERE IN AFGHANISTAN YOU'VE GONE ON THE OFFENSIVE .......
www.youtube.com/watch?v=qR3ttb4hH0g

I have said this before but I will repeat it again. Contrast this to our CnC who refused to visit Chibok (which is part of Nigeria let alone visiting soldiers serving in foreign land) till date. His generals refused to give the soldiers the basics and when the soldiers asks for the basics, they get sacked without benefits (or sentenced to death). And some people are here calling the soldiers cowards. The real Coward-n-Chief leaves in Aso rock and still asking for another term
