10 National Emergencies The Next President will Face by 1LRNZH: 7:09pm On Jan 03, 2015 |
With the 2015 elections as close as next month, whoever emerges president will have a full plate of problems waiting for him. These problems, or ‘national emergencies’, cut across various sectors and will require an equally varied approach to solution. Our list is by no means exhaustive, but a sharpening of the most pressing national emergencies today. 1. Stopping bomb explosions in crowded places 2. Managing hard feelings from 2015 polls 3. Managing up for sharp drop in government revenue due to oil price fall 4. Tackling industrial-scale oil theft 5. Figuring out what to do with PIB (Petroleum Industry Bill) 6. Incessant strikes by healthcare workers and teachers 7. Arresting Naira's fall against major currencies 8. Lifting power generation now stuck at 3,000MW 9. Liberating Bama, Gwoza, Michika, others from Boko Haram 10.Rescuing Chibok girls* http://newsrescue.com/10-national-emergencies-next-president-will-face-time-us-start-thinking-planning/#axzz3Nm1F60CU *Posters comment: Instead of 'Rescuing Chibok girls' as a group which I think is now almost impossible, I think 'Figuring out what to do about Nigeria's Refining Capacity' should be no. 10. |

To say that these points existed during the inception of the present govt (except Chibok Girls, Oil Price Fall and Large Scale Oil bunkering), is really a shame. No viable solutions have been provided in the last 6 years. |

1. Stopping bomb explosions in crowded places - Boko haram and their Jihadist group should pack one corner 2. Managing hard feelings from 2015 polls - GEJ is likely to win again, let the "dogs and baboons" people not slay youth corpers and innocent people again 3. Managing up for sharp drop in government revenue due to oil price fall - diversifying of the economy is the solution, the present govt is doing that, it can't be attained over night, for example the reforms in agriculture, aviation and automobile, when all the megawatts being installed are supplied to the national grid, there will be more stable power for anyone willing to run a business. 4. Tackling industrial-scale oil theft - we should remove our mindset from oil and stealing of it, esp the youths... it will go a long way. 5. Figuring out what to do with PIB (Petroleum Industry Bill) - When the cabals holding it down leaves it, it will come to fruition, we know the people that don't want it passed, but no matter how long u hold down the truth, it will always come to fore light, except that delaying more will allow the rot in Petroleum Industry to continue. 6. Incessant strikes by healthcare workers and teachers - Each party must consider the people first. 7. Arresting Naira's fall against major currencies - Less reliant on oil, check 3 above 8. Lifting power generation now stuck at 3,000MW - OP, power is currently above 4000MW, get facts right, it was 2500MW before Jonathan came in and today it is over 4000MW, there are more power generation stations going on, once they come on, there is hope for another 2000-3000MW making it around 7000, then when the private power companies finally stands on their fit, power shortage will be history, have hope. 9. Liberating Bama, Gwoza, Michika, others from Boko Haram - With less sabotage and more support from all concerned, with the kind of weapons being brought in, boko haram will be gone for good. 10.Rescuing Chibok girls* - I doubt if the girls will be rescued, more effort should be on preventing such thing from happening. God bless everyone. 1 Like |

My responses in blue bold Normality: While your suggestions are of the siddon look and I don't give a damn hue, I believe there's a lot Gov't can do and a lot of necessary support it can rally if they focus on the right priorities, demonstrate sincerity and engage people/communities continously. Governance is not supposed to be a cake walk. |
