Maybe not the Market of today

Don't be delusional brother, I'm not saying its right but that's the condition on ground presently in the labour market.

BSc is Superior to hnd.

In my lill knowledge, I tink (I stand to be corrected) Hnd guys are the technologist , say builders while the Bsc guys are the brains / designers.. So hnd are the oompa loompas of Bsc guys.

Using the word "superior" might draw us to an inconclusive argument..both are at par in the industry of today. Maybe we both talking from experience..

U're not correct. Say, Bsc guys are supposed to be designers. But today in Nigeria they graduate without being able to design for the HND guys who now design for themselves. Or u think in HND Engineering courses they are not taught how to design?

just the same way i can mention universities that give admission without JAMB too. Some people got admission thru Remedial/PreDegree programs without JAMB. It affects both sides bro.

2. Quality of Lecturers

It is a balm to say that the university lecturers possessed a "Band" called PhD better than that of the polytechnic lecturers. A friend of mine graduated from the most famous private university in ogun state(2:1,chemical engineering), he told me in quote " one of our professor's doesnt even know how to apply the practical application of what he taught us, all he does, is to give us handout to memorize, though i graduated with 2:1 but with no practical knowledge to show up". To back up the aforementioned, i have handled a building project owned by a professor of construction management. To my amazement, i have read a lot of books, journals written by this same professor when i was in school but unfortunately, i have to be interpreting a simple structural/Building plan before he can understand better and i am just a trained Technologist(HND) by this polytechnic lecturers with no PHD or whatever. In the construction industry of today, No foreigner will ever choose a BSc holder over an HND holder(i stand corrected) because performance goes with profit and profit goes with experience. If i dont have a PhD but possess the practical knowledge to breed "Entrepreneur" i think am better off than a "Theoretical Entreprenuers". The easiest difference between the university lecturers and their counterparts is that, the university lecturers communicate in theory without practical while the polytechnic lecturers possess both attributes. It is left for you to choose the one you prefers.

@Bolded: YOU ARE LYING , I find this hard to believe, this isn't philosophy, you don't write in abstract.. Also, Structural /Building plans are so easy to interpret.

In the construction industry a Bsc holder will be choosen over an Hnd holder.. Because of the stress on design, planning and management in sch, anybody can handle a project supervision just tellem wht to do, wht will be the role of a technologist? U not going to be the iron bender, mason etc y shuld I not hire a Bsc holder instead? (My points of view are from the Civil engr perspective)

I don't really care which certificate is superior, I think it should be rated on the same level(that should be on going or already done by now)
But the population has led us to believe that Bsc is superior, this is what the majority thinks.
I don't really blame them, given the curriculum, plus other factors and number of years, you can clearly see that the Bsc guys have a wider curriculum base and You get to learn more.

I ve got a B.Eng in Civil Engr. Iv got frnds and colleagues with HND.
After school or while still in sch, if u don't undergo personal self development, then u'll be toast.. Period.
So tis not really about the Bsc/Hnd thing, its about developments in our line of work.

Am not here to convince you on the reality you know nothing about. With what you just wrote, I think I know where to place your point, there is no need for further explanation. Sometimes what we write determines what we wrote while what we wrote determine our level of experience in the industry.

it may be true cos most graduates in Nigeria today, especially the ones from Nigerian universities are very incompetent and unemployable. They graduate without having any skills that can make them self reliant, that's why they always depend on govt to provide jobs for them where they can be claiming superiority over others with less contribution to the success of the work. They are unproductive.

Where are the college and polytechnic graduates that are doing better of university graduates? Where are the companies whose directors are HND holders? Could you give clear reference to back the point?
Bite off more than you can chew!

You're correct bro. One really needs to develop himself in whatever field u are to be able to make significant impact in that field. For the curriculum i think they are almost the same, it's the emphasis that differs. In engineering the uni guys take more maths courses than the poly guys while the poly guys take more technical courses than the uni guys. In other courses like statistics and accounting, the poly guys do more technical/practical courses than the uni. Knew this from my own personal research.

Most sensible and unbiased comments. Take the OP's write-up for instance. Does it make any sense at all? Like you said, there are dull and bright students everywhere, but the higher population of dull and/or unenlightened strudents can be found in the polytechnics.

Very true analysis. 1000+ likes

If you can't comprehend a succinctly written article, I smell another pivotal disaster.

I wont even argue with anything you have written, but I saw a polytechnic graduate at a police station in Lagos today. She wrote a statement, and the I.P.O, who is an ordinary primary school leaving certificate holder, told her she wrote nonsense. She couldn't spell mother, couldn't spell simple english words. I was embarrassed.

Also, I have been to many polytechnics and interacted with some of them. While I agree that there are brilliant polytechnic students, I believe they make up just about 15 percent of the total population of the school.

if you assemble 20 students( uni and poly), you dont have to spend more than 5 minutes with them before you can single out the polytechnic students. From the way they dress, speak, behave. e.t.c . Anyway, just had to get that off my chest. My advice to anybody seeking admission, try to get a University Education at all cost.

Oh! That. Have thought a whole bunch of university graduate's on how to write a cover letter, statement of purpose...e.t.c..so what you saw is a replicate of what you don't know

@OP

Let us stick to making more money and not dwell on time wasting arguments. A poor man has no voice and is usually disrespected irrespective of his educational qualifications.
