Its because this is an anonymous forum. As a social experiment nairaland has proved that people bring out the worst in themselves when they feel they will suffer no repercussions. Funny enough this seems to be more prevalent among Nigerians. I have been to one or two other anonymous sites and I can boldly say the vitriol in those places is not overflowing as it is in this place. I think if you scratch below the surface a bit, you will find out that Nigerians as a people suffer from mass population depression and a general overdose of low self esteem. This may have been brought about by being under bad leadership and chronic suffering for so long. Studies have shown that people who have been oppressed for long periods of time find succor in oppressing others. It is all they know. So any chance they have to do this they grab it will all their might. This manifests in cussing, insulting, jeering at, lying to and generally behaving rudely to anyone they come across. It is an opportunity for them to feel some relief from the victims they perceive themselves to be in real life. 1 Like 1 Share |
