Council of A.T Kearney, a top global
management consulting firm, Mr. Paul
Laudicina, has named the Coordinating
Minister for the Economy and Minister of
Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, number
one on his list of five “Unsung Leaders of
2014” based on a survey.
Writing in Forbes magazine, Laudicina said
the minister and four other distinguished
leaders stood out for demonstrating
“capability, reliability and authenticity” in the
discharge of their duties at different levels.
Okonjo-Iweala, the first woman finance
minister of Nigeria, the world’s seventh
largest country, was lauded for fighting
endemic corruption and helping to refurbish
Nigeria’s image and economic prospects.
The management expert stated that while
there is a tendency to focus on the negative
and on leaders who fail to live up to
expectation, “maybe we have not looked long
or hard enough to find the real leaders right
under our gaze.”
He stated that “We all know intuitively that
none of our institutions would be working at
all if there weren’t committed, capable,
reliable and authentic leaders delivering on
their promises day in and out, and adding
value to the lives of the people they serve.
“We also know the difference a respected
leader can make in inspiring broader support
for noble humanitarian, peacekeeping, or
governmental missions.”
The others on list are: Pope Francis’ right-
hand man and Vatican Secretary of State,
Pietro Parolin, Indian-born engineer, Arati
Prabhakar, who is the Director of the US
Department of Defence’s Defence Advanced
Research Projects Agency (DARPA), the
brother of Jordan’s King, Prince Feisal Al
Hussein, Prince Feisal, and former President
of Mexico, Felipe Calderon.

Nigerians are illiterates. We condemn our best heads for useless reasons. We are very short sighted refusing to see beyond our noses. We only view the world from our selfish lenses. Just because its not perfect does not mean we are not on the right path. We are only interested in short term benefits.

The world over keep appreciating the technocrats we have in this government and yet Nigerians condemn them. They seem to understand our progress better than us. They understand their key policies and its impacts on us better than us.

More than ever the future of Nigeria is so bright ..... every process takes time. The rot of many years cannot just be wished away, it takes time to be worked.

Agriculture is the future of Nigeria and not oil.... this govt understands that and has worked it
The automobile industry is the future of manufacturing in Nigeria. ... this is being worked
The power sector is not business as usual. It is on the path of self improvement in the hands of the private sector. Constant power will take funds, equipment and time but more than ever... its within sight
The gas gathering project in Delta is a huge boost for the power sector and other sectors
Oil and gas downstream deregulation is the next big thing with massive potential for revenue, employment etc. Dangote's refinery is coming up speedily. ... other investors will come in at the removal of subsidy
Our elections are now free and fair.... power belongs again to the people courtesy of this govt
Roads are better, Railways are back to easy the heavy load impact on our roads
Foreign direct investment is at its alltime high despite our local challenges

Security issues are a current distraction will we will overcome. But we should not lose sight of where we are headed. With the current policies in place..... Nigeria is the next big thing. The whole world sees it except Nigerians.

Corruption is being fought systematically by restructuring systems... fertiliser scam, unfair election, ghost workers in public service, rule of law. These might not be the way we expected it fought but this is one way to ensure the gains are permanent. More needs to be done.

It's time Nigerians stop complaining and play issues based politics. The people who call this government clueless are actually the clueless ones. The plans are very clear and visible.

Seriously,I feel for Nigerians. Our people are being recognised internationally but back home,we berate them and call them all manner of names. Nigerians are like shylocks who want to eat their cakes and have it. A country that has been left in ruins for decades,we all of a sudden want it to be like America in four years. Most Nigerians do not know that for you to achieve any meaningful development,your developmental programs have to be divided into short,medium and long term goals. Nigerians want to see everything fixed immediately. I've also realised that Nigerians haven't gotten used to the type of govt we're running. Most people expect the president to send anyone who is guilty of corruption to jail(like He's a military ruler),forgetting that under democracy,there are rules that must be followed for a person to be convicted. If corrupt people are buying their way out even after being charged to court,then we should look at how to cleanse the judiciary. For me,I think the problems of Nigeria are the legislative and judiciary arms of govt. Until we find a way of sanitising these two,we won't go anywhere. They are too corrupt. Look at the case of Ogwuche,the guy who masterminded the Abuja bombings. Govt did all they could to extradite him from Sudan and bring him home to stand trial. Despite him confessing to the crime,He was acquitted by the court. How did that happen? People should learn how to hold certain people accountable for their actions.

Well deserved, upright and hard working woman that has the interest of the Nation Nigeria at heart.
