Ndi Igbo need to spread their bets. Relying on GEJ and PDP alone is hedging their bets on one option alone. If that ship sinks, they go down en masse.

Sticking with GEJ/PDP has killed APGA. They should have joined APC during the coalition and had a say in choosing positions within APC.
The worst part is the Igbos are encouraging the tagging of GEJ's presidency as an Igbo one. The implications are profound- no Igbo Presidency again after GEJ until it goes round all other geopolitical zones. This is extremely foolish by all standards.

If GMB wins, which is likely, the Igbos may have politically checkmated themselves by sticking to GEJ/PDP.
GMB needs SE votes as much as they need him and APC.
I suggest Ohanaeze or APGA gets into some secret understanding with GMB and APC for this elections.

In as much as I don't advocate for an indirect 3rd tenure for any political office holder; I expected GEJ to hang his boots at the completion of this tenure for another leader to take over. We shouldn't allow our future in the hands those who battered (or even bettered) our yesterday. The future of Nigeria belongs to every Nigerian. What we need is simply CHANGE.

But unfortunately, I don't see an element of CHANGE. (Just my two cents.). Choosing between a former Army general and the incumbent President is like choosing between a rock and a hard place. I would have preferred it most if PDP conducted a fair primary election and nominated someone else; I would have loved it if APC fielded Osibanjo or someone else as President.

I don't want to sound sentimental. But before we cast our votes, let's think about Nigerians dying in the hands of BH. I just feel it has something to do with February 2015. Let's cast our votes wisely.

Please! Igbos are not angry with Jonathan. He will win 99% of Igbo votes no matter what he what he does or doesn't do. They have to vote for him because he is using their turn. Jonathan is a proxy Igbo president. Which is really a shame.

This is a very painful assertion when viewed politically.
- GEJ is an igbo president by proxy yet the east suffers while the south enjoys.
- southerners don't wanna be called Igbos as they have their own ideNtity yet they claim ebele and azikiwe when elections are in sight.
This makes me wonder if our eastern brothers actually vote by calculating or with emotions and hurt from the past.
Jonathan better win and finish his igbotic tenure because the dreams of a Nigeria led by an easterner is gradually fading.

So you are saying if Buhari enlisted into the army with forged credentials we should ignore it?

It may already be too late for SE. That may be the reason some people would rather sink with GEJ. They'd rather look for any excuse no matter how silly or baseless not to vote GMB.
I was told by a very respectable role model of mine that in life, their is no permanent enemy nor permanent friend - only permanent interest. You build bridges to save your interest. For example, the US interest in middle east is Israel. To preserve/secure that interest, the US build bridges and made many arab (SAUDI being the chief) countries her allies. The same US many Nigerians see as a near-perfect country has Saudi (a country many Nigerians see as the home of evil) as her biggest ally in the middle east.

SE has the least number of voters, the least number of states (and by extension the least number of governors), the least number of senators, the least number of local gov. the least number of rep members. Yet not only do they refuses to build bridges to the north and west, they even foolishly create enemies (lagos deportation is a classic example). If there is a debate in senate today about whether igbo has used their presidency turn going by their support for gej, igbo will lose out because they are the least in numbers and made very little allies if any.
It will be interesting to see how only SE votes can produce an Igbo presidency.

My simple advice to the APC is to be careful with those positioning themselves to be thier supporters or campainers from the south east else thier money would get lost and votes return to him that is closer to them because for the people of the southeast to vote for APC is very very difficult-forget the media propagandas. The igbos I now know and heard speaking will not forget how the igbos where left at the back door in our polity before the administration of GEJ. They will not forget the secrets Okadigbo uncovered on how it has been signed by OBJ, Buhari and others that igbos will not become the president of Nigeria. They will not forget how zik, Ojukwu and now Okorocha were treated and castigated by the yorubas in thier attempt to lead the country. The deportation issue is still dangling in thier memories. The massacre of the igbos is still lively. The thought of Islamizing the country sends quivering into them and many have vowed over thier dead bodies will they cast thier votes for APC. APC should be careful because those igbos flaunting as supporters may be out to deceive and betray them the way they have been doing to the Igbos during electoral processes. I Just returned from the southeast were most ppl are ready to remain glued to GEJ. I notice all the fake noises are only here in Lagos and its environs.

NE,NW,SW=43,237,018 (this is almost two-third of the total vote.)

SS,SE,NC=23,640,986

MAJORITY of South-East and Igbo votes may not go to President Goodluck Jonathan in the February 14 presidential polls contrary to expectations unless the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) takes the complaints of the zone seriously, Founder of the Igbo Youth Movement (IYM) and Deputy Secretary of the Igbo Leaders of Thought (ILT), Evangelist Elliot Uko, has said.
To make amends and continue to enjoy the support of the Igbo, Uko urged President Jonathan to unveil his plans and blueprint and what he had done for the zone in the last six years.

In an interview with Vanguard, Uko said the polls would be fierce but assured that ‘’This time around, Ndigbo will vote right, we have learned painfully over the years that if we vote right, it will be well for everybody. Ndigbo do not want to make mistakes any more.’’

Asked if Ndigbo might abandon Jonathan this time, he said: ”I can’t say that, but I know that Ndigbo are angry with Jonathan. They think he is held hostage by a cabal. They wonder if it makes sense to put Nigeria in the hands of a man who is held prisoner and is easily manipulated by his aides.

” They say his presidency costs Ndigbo a lot as most Nigerians see him as using Ndigbo’s turn, they are also angry with his aides who lie a lot both to Ndigbo and to the man himself. Most of these very respectable individuals and credible groups from the Southeast, tell me they think Jonathan is taking Ndigbo for a ride. The characters who have convinced him that they will deliver Igbo land to him 100 per cent are the ones who might bring him down. While the APC is working hard on the Southeast, the PDP is busy boasting of easy victory.

”This might end up a very tough contest. These Igbo groups who tell me they will not support Jonathan again are not agents of APC, they are traditional Jonathan supporters who feel aggrieved at the way the PDP is behaving. They know Jonathan means well, they know he is a Godly man but they believe he trusts his aides too much and they have blocked him away from reality.

”Whether these accusations are true or not I don’t really know. People are also angry at the stupendous empowerment of ex-militants’ leaders who have all become emergency billionaires, they are all said to be acquiring estates overseas in order to become political god fathers.

”If these allegations are true, then, it is very wrong. Our people are asking, what are the score cards? They are wondering about whatever happened to the promised coal-powered power plants, 2nd Niger bridge, Onitsha sea port, Oguta seaport, Aba inland container terminal, etc.

Everybody knows that the 45 million Ndigbo can save him with their bloc votes or bring him down when Igbo votes are split. The clowns who are Jonathan’s arrowhead in Igboland are busy offending everybody by their arrogance which clearly stems from over-confidence while politicians are busy trading off Ndigbo for their personal deals as everybody is positioning for a slice of the cake. All these mean that the PDP must not take Igboland for granted. The election is just six weeks away and there is so much anger.

”Ndigbo want some respect and dignity. The people deceiving Jonathan in Abuja cannot deliver Igboland to him as they claim, they don’t have the credibility to be followed sheepishly, moreover Ndigbo want to see Jonathan’s blue print to move Nigeria forward. People want to know his agenda for the next dispensation.’’

Thank you so much.

I always laugh when people think that an Igbo presidency is the messianic answer to all Igbo problems.

It is not and Igbos have long realised that.

Igbos have not been president in any democracy but they still have some of the best indices in all facets of human endeavor from education to health to economy.

Those who have held unto power the longest have the poorest masses with politico religious unrest and gross inequalities between the elites and masses.

So telling Igbo to align with APC because it gives them the best shot at presidency in the unknown future is a very lame and laughable ideology.

Kai. You missed the point! The point is not just igbo presidency. The point is Igbo are not a major force to recon with politically. Igbo presidency is just a case study. Igbo has the least number of state. When it was time to create more state for SE to balance the anomaly, Igbo was yet again marginalised and instead of other regions to back ndi igbo up, others used the opportunity to request for even more state. WHY, because igbo has no allies and are busy creating more enemies. I am tempted to say SW, NC and other regions will probably get more states before SE.

True. In a sane world, there shouldn't be anything special which tribe the president come from. But in Nigeria, SE have always claimed to be marginalised in Nigerian politics and whether you admit it or not, SE see gej as a pseudo SE candidate (that's partly why he emphasise Azikwe in his name).
