Hello house, long time no see or should I say chat grin? Happy new year to everyone in the house.

I'm just here to share my experience since I learnt a whole lot from this forum and was able to plan and organise my US trip successfully.
I was scheduled to travel to Houston on Friday 5th December 2015 at 33weeks 6 days.

Lo and behold, as my mum, hubby and I made our way to Murtala Mohammed, I felt water everywhere. I told myself that it could not be possible that my waters had just broken on my way to catch my Delta flight. I cannot explain the feeling I felt, in short I went very blank. I called my gynae who told me to make a you-turn back to the hospital so that he could check and confirm what was going on.

We got to the hospital around 6.00pm and I was told that all my amniotic fluid had drained and infact they would have to carry out an emergency C-section. But before that, I had to be on steroids to help mature the baby's lungs properly as he was pre-term. It all happened soo quickly. My gynae went home that night as the operation had been scheduled for 9am the next day, Saturday the 6th.

Before we knew what was happening I went into active labour around 11.30pm, I thank God that there was an experienced midwife on ground who eventually took the delivery of my son naturally about 2.5hours later.

Long and short of the story my son was born right here in Lagos, Nigeria LOL. I just thank God he didn't need to be put into an incubator as he did well on his own. After all the planning for obodo yankee o, I guess this is a good example of the saying 'Man proposes.....'.

Everyone asked me if I was stressed out etc (maybe that was why my waters broke soo early) but honestly nothing out of the ordinary, I was ok though I had driven earlier that day.

Anyway I just though to share my experience, even though I had thought my next post on this thread would be about my Atl POE experience. All in all I thank God for everything.

Hello o, I'm presently in Maryland. For those considering Maryland or Virginia, I got some hospitals and tort I should share with the house.
1. Waldof women's care: they are a group of female ob/gyn. They are ranked very high arnd Waldof Maryland. Their fee is 2500 for self pay patients and they can also give you a 70percent giftcard off your latest. They use civista medical center. As for the hospital I called to get an estimate but they said they can't give an estimate per say as ur delivery determine what you will be charged.

2. Also Dr Rogers. His fee is 3000 for self pay patients. He uses Anna rundel hospital. Very good doctor too.

3. Dr ansera. His fee for self pay is 3000. He uses Inova alexandria hospital. The hospital fee for virginal birth is 5500 and they give a 46percent discount for self pay patients. Two days stay. I hope this help someone

Thanks so much for sharing!
Giving birth in VA, MD and DC is so expensive so the info is very appreciated. I have a few more options. Will share here in the next post. A lovely nairaland mum also shared this spreadsheet recently (attached)
Sorry cant find her username but thanks to her.

Have you decided on an option?

Plastic would consume space in your bag, depending on your flight i think 45Kg is what you are entitled to,so its better you just nylon bags ,well packaged. dry fish inside ziplog bags, fried meat also, indomie, rice and garri, spaggetti, panla also ..i am just giving you insight of how we packed ours and by the grace of GOD we shall eat them in AMERICAAAAA..... grin

Hey GenoMI, congratulations on your LO, the key thing which we all wish for at the end of the day is a healthy baby to a healthy mother.

And your baby is fine even after being born so early, loads to thank God for *hugs*

Lol. Funny enough I was the one who shared the spreadsheet. I didn't decidde on any of the hospitals on the spreadsheet cos I felt they were still abit on the high side but I shared it cos I felt someone could still find it useful. So when I got to Maryland I decided to doanother research before settling. I'm settling for the Inova alexandria. Had the doctors appointment today and all that was on my mind was that God shld punish our leaders for not giving us a good healthcare. Lool. The doctor was so patient and detailed

For me it's more of the quality service care and equipment being used as well as the atmosphere. It is well.

Congrats Genomi. We serve a mighty GOD who knows more than we do and saves us from trouble. When I think of all the issues that couldhave occurred if this had happened in the air or on arrival in america and the unexpected bills, I praise God for you and on your behalf. Most importantly you and baby are healthy. Please rest well and take care of our special baby boy.

LOL as in it's crazy.
I actually visited several of the hospitals hoping to see some special luxury VIP suites for those prices. It was nice but definitely not great value for the quoted fees

@aye88 Thanks so much. I had checked out so many options and decided on one despite the high prices. I will check out Inova.
All the best with your birth experience. May God guide you through Amen.
