dicapino:When I went for my 2nd interview last year, I used my maternal uncle ( different surname) as my sponsor, during the interview I tried to avoid mentioning the location of my sponsor to the vo but alas she asked me for my sponsor's bank statement and immediately she saw the name of the bank in the heading, she said to me " so your sponsor lives in the USA?" And I said yes, she asked me to give her some minutes. She went in and called the bank to confirm the owner of the account and whatever else and came back, apologized for time wasted and approved my visa. I agree that having a uncle/ aunt based in the states as sponsor could be a red flag "on a bad day" but it could also mean nothing to the vo "on a good day". 5 Likes |

zeezahbee:Yours truly and some other poster who hasn't given me permission to disclose his details. UH is big and massive( well, most schools are). Can't count the number of times i've lost my way. I've only been here a week and still trying to settle in. The cold weather isn't helping. The income gap between white and black americans in houston couldn't be starker that it just makes me sad. You get on a bus 85-90% of passengers are black people; you get into a half decent neighborhood or take a peek at people driving nice cars, a good majority is white. |

I heard pharmacies in the US don't sell drugs except on doctors prescription. What sort of drugs can one take along? I'm thinking Actifed, panadol, procold. Any other suggestions? |

Femicrux:Depends on the stare, in Houston, a student ride costs 60 cents, while in Chicago, it's free ride for student during session. So find out about your location but really it's little fare |

Femicrux: You can always get tylenol, ibuprofen which are pain relievers, and other cold and flu medications at grocery stores/CVS/Walgreens without needing prescription. You only need prescription for more powerful ones. You can always take those naija stuffs with you too if you want. |

Also Posted in the VO thread. PLEASE HELP! I am currently residing in the United states. Long story short Came here and studied engineering and currently working. My company sponsored my green card and my Masters studies. My little sister applied to Park university in Missouri and was denied visa Twice. I really don't know why she was denied visa and i will love to know at least to know what to do next time. She has the government scholarship sponsorship and school fees for 4 years paid out in full in a Voucher. VO asked her If she is planning to change to another school when she gets to the United states(Why the question). They asked her this question in both interview. In the second interview they asked a lot of questions about me. She went inside for a minute came back and told her that she is not qualified. NOTE: She mistakenly forgot her i-20 at home in the second Interview but they were able to pull up her SEVIS in the computer. I am really confused on the reason why they denied her twice. We are going to try again in the Fall. Please any advice or further questions will be great! Thanks and God bless. |

Femicrux: Uncompletely true. They only don't sell antibiotics i.e. ampicilin, ampiclox e.t.c (Nigerian examples) and other like drugs without a doctor's prescription. Regular pills like acetaminophen (for headache, fever), flu pills e.t.c can be bought at pharmacy stores freely and don't need a doctor's prescription. Don't bother buying flu pills from Nigeria. Our pills aren't as strong as theirs here because their flu pills are produced to be very strong to combat their strong flu virus strain (4+) which is much stronger than the virus strain we fall sick to back in Nigeria. However, buy antibiotics when coming. It's very important. You can't get them here at the pharmacy without a doctor's prescription. 1 Like |

Horayce: What are those advantages anyway, if I may ask? Exorbitant dorm rates? Prohibition from cooking own meals in the dorm? Lack of privacy? ... ... I can't get myself to think of exactly what advantages there are on living on campus. What are they exactly? |

Horayce: Unfortunately bro, that's the issue that pervades here in America. The wealth gap between whites and blacks here is quite enormous. By blacks, we refer specifically to the African Americans. However, the income gap between whites and Nigerians isn't that much. Nigerians are doing real good here. Whites are only slightly better because this is their country and they have been here for years while Nigerians are recent immigrants to the country. I'd suggest you never forget your identity, where you come from, your Nigerian spirit and your thought processes - those things that make you Nigerian as that Nigeria spirit/drive for success will keep you going in this country. Most successful Nigerians I have met here always seemed to have a strong Nigerian cultural identity to them which they never gave up on. 3 Likes |

Dear forumites I applied for a renewal of my F-1 Student Visa through the Drop Box Visa Renewal Program at the U.S. Consulate General Lagos, Nigeria on December 2014 but on Wednesday January 7th 2015 I received an e-mail from the Correspondence Unit (TMI) US CONSULATE GENERAL LAGOS, NIGERIA stating that the they needed to see me in person inorder to proceed with my case. But the problem I am having right now is that my school resumes on Monday January 12th, 2015 for the spring semester. It is advisable to depart the United States while school is so close to resumption. It is worthy of note to point out that when I was filling the DS-160 nonimmigrant Visa Petition I also mentioned the following information listed below (1) That I have a pending immigrant petition filed on my behalf by my sibling (2) That I have a valid work authorization card issued by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) (3) That I have four siblings currently residing in the United States three of whom are United States citizens and one a permanent resident Ojap, Imperiouxx, Msnas, bigfrancis21, Walspring, Zeezahbee and other forumites your inputs are highly appreciated. |
