kairi: Yeah. Thanks so much for your advice. I've been in Maryland for awhile now and done extensive research. It's pretty expensive here and they hardly give discounts. The hospital I settled for is in Virginia. It's 28mins drive frm where I stay in Maryland which is even closer than some hospitals within Maryland where u can drive close to 1hr. The hospital I'm choose gives a 46percent discount for those who don't have insurance or who are self paying patients. The total hospital bill for virginal is 4358 after deducting the 46percent. It covers for two days stay at the hospital. It doesn't cover for anaestlogist, or doctors fee o. They seem to be the only one that is straight forward with their bill. |

Vineb: Carrying iru is risky. When my husband was coming over, the first thing they asked him was if he had iru or egusi (they called it like that verbatim). They have african food experts. You don't need that kind of attention when pregnant |

For New Jersey bound mothers, try Christ Hospital. Has a lot of Nigerian and Ghanaian staff and reasonably priced. It's not a 5 star hotel but standard is still good. The person I know spent around 7k for CS. Though I don't know if they give quotes and letters before traveling and it's in Jersey city 1 Like |

Vineb: I disagree o, it depends on what you fill in the hospital, the name on your passport will only be used when the passport guys are filling out their portion on the application form. I used my current name on my baby BC n they didn't ask for any supporting doc. 1 Like |

Hello, I am new to this forum and I have been doing some research on which doctors and hospitals to use in Maryland since my mum inlaw stays there. But all the hospitals are damn right expensive, some don't even want to take. I am getting frustrated. I am supposed to travel by 1st week in May if I get my visa but I still havent even gotten any hospitals. Can u give me pointers please? Yeah. Thanks so much for your advice. My dear I am also seriously considering using those guys at ElPaso cos Maryland where I have my mother in-law is quite expensive. They seem to have everything figured out and they respond to inquiries on time. The only snag would be that I would be alone all that time. I wish I could pair with someone. Who has used them before please? What was your experience and how did u manage with accomodations Soutien: |

They said to me that they treat multiple births as cesarean, so they charge $6,925 Soutien: |

effectsbaby: This is the first time am hearing that ooo, normally they tell you to fill the name on your passport. Well may be hospitals have different methods sha. But in my case they said I have to use the name on my passport. |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by Vineb: 7:50pm On Jan 08, 2015 |
mimibe: In your case was it your maiden name on your passport or your current name. Cos I was asked for a form of ID when I filled the birth certificate form. I had other ID's with my current last name but they said my international passport is the only ID they will accept. In all will advice you change your passport name to your current last name to be on a safe side. |

Vineb:Even on the child's passport application, they ask for your last name at birth. I guess the hospital modeled same. Way back on this thread before we lost some members, this has been mentioned before |

if you don't mind, pm for a contact, you will send your old passport and details to him, he will do all the administrative work and call you for scanning. you will appear for passport, signature and thumbprint. thereafter you opt for dhl postage of passport. all in all you travel to Abuja once but it may take 1-2wks to get a new passport. mine took 10days (sending to abj and collection of new passport). effectsbaby: Hello,m currently in the US and still waiting for baby to pop out. My passport has my maiden name on it but i have my marriage certificate with me. Will they still insist my baby's BC n Passports bear my maiden name as his surname? If yes, how do i change it later? I never knew about this from Nig,i would ve processed the change of name on my passport. Thanks |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by Nobody: 10:45pm On Jan 08, 2015 |
customised87:the father's name will be on the birth cert, so the child pp will bear the father name. My passport still bears my maiden name and I didn't fill it on the form given to me in the hospital, I used my new name and it was accepted nobody questioned it. There is a part for maiden name. 3 Likes |

Vineb: On the birth certificate (at least in Houston) the mother is required to fill her first name and her MAIDEN name. Doesn't matter if your passport is in your maiden or married name. 4 Likes |
Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by uchetobi(f): 11:11pm On Jan 08, 2015 |
customised87: Nope. You can put your husbands name on the child's bc. Nobody will ask you anything. You dint need to process change of name on passport if you are not ready to. However, your name as the mother will be your first name and your maiden name. It's the requirement and has nothing to do with your passport name (maiden or married). 5 Likes |
