Buhari steered the post election violence that metamorphosed into 2011 Political BokoHaram. Had Buhari won the election, there won't be political Bokoharam let alone fighting them.

Stop deceiving yourself and own up to your choice.

We know you will choose political Bokoharam over Goodluck Jonathan government, any day, any time.

i strongly doubt if the Nigerian armed forces can defeat Boko Haram. The attack on Baga was the last straw that broke the carmels back.

Baga is where the base of the MNJTF is located; consisting of soldiers from Nigeria, Niger, Tchad and Cameroon. The base was sacked and the Haramites brought wanton destruction on Baga in their wake.

I doubt if their is any army in west africa that can tame Boko Haram now. We need 'foreign' intervention.

I believe the Nigerian army can defeat a force 3 times stronger than Bokoharam. Cluelessness is the problem.

People will just compare apple and orange just to nail GEJ. We are talking about French army against 3 individuals who they know where they are. For the records, Boko haram first attack was in 2002, if OBJ who was the president then had done what the french did, we wouldn't have been in the situation we are in now.

You don't allow extremists to get a foothold in a country because even if Shakau is killed today, another leader will emerge tomorrow.

NB: There was nowhere any French politician was recommending amnesty for the 3 idiots, we know who and who advocated for amnesty for boko haram and who are opposing state of emergency.

I wanted us to compare the reaction of French opposition and general public to your objective with Islam-o-political BokoHaram you so much appreciate above the government in power.

It is only in Nigeria that opposition volunteers as the media arm of a terrorist organisation, cheering and boosting the moral of the insurgents by criticising and demonising the Military to the extent that El'rufia calls them GEJ's army.

What do you say about Buhari's open declaration that a war against Bokoharam is a war against Northern Nigeria? Is this what opposition in France saying?

@Obiageill.

I think the entire forum get your point and it is only shamelessly ethnocentric and religiously prejudiced posters who would pretend not to understand what is terribly obvious and indicative of why GEJ should have been booted out ages ago , because of his failings which has cost over 15,000 Nigerian lives directly, and not even afforded the privilege of contesting an election.

12 deaths caused the deployment of over 80,000 security operatives in France yet 2,000 Nigerians have died in the past week with our President, rather than address Nigeria over this terrible development, only interested in going around lying horribly and contradicting himself at campaign rallies in pursuit of 4 more 'looting' years. Our President is callous, inept and irresponsible. We all know this yet worse is that he has fans willing to make excuses for his horrendous failure causing the daily death of many innocent Nigerians. These foolish 'herded goats' cannot understand that it hurts Nigerians to see responses such as that the world witnessed France pull off to bring three killers to book within two days of their murderous acts. Till today the mythical "Chima Orlu" and "Ben Jessy" appear to have disappeared into thin air after "committing" the Abuja Independence day bombing several years ago which killed Nigerians.

Ogwuche, the suspected mastermind of the Nyanya bombing, has recently been declared not guilty by a Nigerian Court. Senator Ndume is walking around freely when he should have remained in jail on remand, as is the case worldwide, while his court case for sponsoring/abetting terrorism would then be quickly prosecuted instead of being buried systematically as we see going on today. Nigerians, daily, must watch so much shameless support for corruption and terrorism by the GEJ government. Yet some have the nerve to come here and attempt blaming others for the glaring failing of GEJ. Some Nigerians are just the worst example in the world of people who worship their oppressors and tormentors. No doubt that sensible Nigerians, who I know are in the majority, will boot out this horrid President so that what is reported below can quickly become a thing of the past and a sad indictment of what happens when a people embrace sentiments, prejudice and religious/ethnic bias when choosing leaders.

Boko Haram's 'deadliest massacre': 2,000 feared dead in Nigeria
Amnesty International calls the killings ‘a disturbing and bloody escalation’ and a local defence group says its fighters have given up trying to count the bodies

Hundreds of bodies – too many to count – remain strewn in the bush in Nigeria from an Islamic extremist attack that Amnesty International described as the “deadliest massacre” in the history of Boko Haram.

Fighting continued on Friday around Baga, a town on the border with Chad where insurgents seized a key military base on 3 January and attacked again on Wednesday.

“Security forces have responded rapidly, and have deployed significant military assets and conducted air strikes against militant targets,” said a government spokesman.

District head Baba Abba Hassan said most victims are children, women and elderly people who could not run fast enough when insurgents drove into Baga, firing rocket-propelled grenades and assault rifles on town residents.

“The human carnage perpetrated by Boko Haram terrorists in Baga was enormous,” Muhammad Abba Gava, a spokesman for poorly armed civilians in a defence group that fights Boko Haram, told the Associated Press.

He said the civilian fighters gave up on trying to count all the bodies. “No one could attend to the corpses and even the seriously injured ones who may have died by now,” Gava said.

An Amnesty International statement said there are reports the town was razed and as many as 2,000 people killed.

If true, “this marks a disturbing and bloody escalation of Boko Haram’s ongoing onslaught,” said Daniel Eyre, Nigeria researcher for Amnesty International.

The previous bloodiest day in the uprising involved soldiers gunning down unarmed detainees freed in a 14 March 2014 attack on Giwa military barracks in Maiduguri city. Amnesty said then that satellite imagery indicated more than 600 people were killed that day.

The attacks come five weeks away from presidential elections which are likely to trigger even more bloodshed. Already under a state of emergency, the three north-eastern states worst hit by Boko Haram asked the central government for more troops earlier this week. The government has said voting will take place across Borno state although the worsening insecurity means few international observers are likely to get clearance to oversee voting in an area that is traditionally opposition-supporting.

Around 1.5 million people have been displaced by the violence, many of whom will not be able to vote in the polls under Nigeria’s current electoral laws.

Boko Haram also appears to be regionalising the conflict, after threatening neighbouring Cameroon in a video earlier this week.

The government has made no official comment on the alleged massacres. President Goodluck Jonathan skimmed security issues when he relaunched his re-election bid in front of thousands of cheering supporters in the economic capital, Lagos, on Thursday.

The five-year insurgency killed more than 10,000 people last year alone, according to the Washington-based Council on Foreign Relations. More than a million people are displaced inside Nigeria and hundreds of thousands have fled across its borders into Chad and Cameroon.

Emergency workers said this week they are having a hard time coping with scores of children separated from their parents in the chaos of Boko Haram’s increasingly frequent and deadly attacks.

Just seven children have been reunited with parents in Yola, capital of Adamawa state, where about 140 others have no idea if their families are alive or dead, said Sa’ad Bello, the coordinator of five refugee camps in Yola.

He said he was optimistic that more reunions will come as residents return to towns that the military has retaken from extremists in recent weeks.

Suleiman Dauda, 12, said he ran into the bushes with neighbours when extremists attacked his village, Askira Uba, near Yola last year.

“I saw them kill my father, they slaughtered him like a ram. And up until now I don’t know where my mother is,” he told the Associated Press at Daware refugee camp in Yola.

Muhammadu Buhari , CPC  Presidential Candidate

Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential Campaign Council Friday blamed the destruction of party’s offices, billboards and other campaign paraphernalia across the country on the Congress for Progressive Change’s Presidential Candidate, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari[rtd].

A statement signed by the Council’s Director of Media, Mallam Abba Dabo said the violence against PDP members were a deliberate act of anarchy and “a direct consequence of Buhari’s repeated call for violence,” adding that it is an act of provocation against its law abiding supporters.

The PDP said if the acts of vandalism were not halted, “it could herald series of destructive violence nationwide, for which Buhari will be held responsible for unleashing.”

“The CPC Presidential Candidate at every opportunity has spared no time in urging his supporters to take the law into their hands, a reason why everywhere he goes, his campaigns have been trailed by anarchy and mayhem.

We call on the security to fully investigate the immediate and remote causes and bring to book anyone involved, no matter his position.

“Buhari’s recent apology for the actions of his unruly supporters is admission of his guilt and complicity in the series of pre-meditated attacks on our supporters,” the PDP campaign spokesman said.

Daboh, while committing the party’s determination to a free, fair and crises-free election in April, added, “we cannot continue to fold our arms as our supporters are continually assaulted.”

Did the opposition hold the government at gun point forcing it not to proceed with the onslaught?

When the government stopped fighting and told us all that they had reached a cease fire agreement with Boko Haram, was it the opposition that was remote controlling them?

Opposition didn't have any power of force nor ammunitions to fight, ( if they did, maybe they'd have done a better job), the responsibility and authority for this was with the governemt and at every turn they keep shirking. From denial of the abduction of chibok girls, the illusion that they'd had the insurgents floored in weeks. They kept over estimating and under estimating. Never efficient, never effective. Is the opposition to blame for these?

To most Nigerians, the opposition has played its role nicely. If everyone was pro PDP, bomb will be dropping while the News stations would be showing smiling governemt officials getting fatter and having "family affair" meeting.

What greater illustration of your prejudiced and bigoted nature other than this pathetic post you make about Buhari when the subject matter is the failure of the President and C-in-C of Nigeria i.e GEJ? The central point of Obiagelli's post is that Nigerians can only watch enviously as France moved quickly and without any compromise to rid the street of three vicious killers and secure justice for 12 innocent people who were gunned down. Jonathan does nothing but supervise the death of innocent Nigerians through is inaction, ineptitude and anti-people callousness. We know bigots like you will perpetually mention Buhari in the hope GEJ can look good by default yet Nigerians are now wise enough to know that Mr.President's failing belongs to him and him alone. He will be voted out for this reason.

France deploys 88,000
troops as Charlie Hebdo

northeast of Paris
Two brothers allegedly responsible for the
Charlie Hebdo killings which left 12 dead in
Paris remain at large. Tens of thousands of
security officers have joined a manhunt for
Cherif and Said Kouachi.
France has deployed tens of thousands of
security forces in the hunt for two brothers
accused of killing 12 people at the offices of the
satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, a hunt which
is now focused on a forest and several
woodland villages northeast of Paris.

www.dw.de/france-deploys-88000-troops-as-charlie-hebdo-manhunt-focuses-northeast-of-paris/a-18180946

Oby, let me first of all say those two scenarios are largely incomparable. What do I mean? Please consider the following;

1. While the Charlie Hebdo incident took off as an outright offensive onslaught (hostage-for-relevance terror) Boko Haram did not not start on volatility note. In other words, It metamorphosed from a peaceful religious movement to the hydra-headed form it's today and that explained why spontaneous deploring of troops would not have been visible at the onset. No civilian government can deplore troops to quell unrest in any part of Nigeria without considering multifarious factors such as politics, religion and socio-cultural diversities.

2. Cast your mind back to the Russian hostage of 2004. That event was a replica(in fact carbon copy) of the Chibok abduction and that's why it amuses me when people blame the FG for foot dragging on forceful rescue of the girls. In that incident, a Russian public school was invaded by anti-Russian dissidents and more than 600 pupils and parents were held hostage. After series of unsuccessful negotiations, the Russian authority considered the hostage as an affront on their territorial integrity and decided to invade the school with highly trained commandos. Oby, what was the outcome? MORE THAN 300 PUPILS LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE ENSUING CROSSFIRE even though almost all the invaders were killed.
Please Google the word; SCHOOL NUMBER ONE RUSSIAN HOSTAGE, 2004 and take time to dissect the encapsulated events.
So, coming back to your question, the above two scenerios point to why we should not go all out to give Jonathan blanket bashing for inability to tame Boko haram and release the girls. An haphazardly executed onslaught against Boko haram can result in massive collateral damage, the outcome of which Jonathan's govt may not survive.

of course every group starts with a few peaceful individuals, the government allowed Bokoharam become what it is today. A group of ragtag criminals hiding in the bus to a monster claiming territory

There were no troops on the ground, the police did everything. But in Nigeria there has never been a police force, especially in the north where the almajirin system has longed ground before even before OBJ legitimised it.

A country does not run on prayer, but by common sense, ingenuity and hard work

DONGOYARO1:
The Hauasas 2% of Boko Haram members. Majority of the Boko fighters are from the Kanuri ethnic group alongside their brothers from Niger, Tchad and Cameroon. Shekau is a Kanuri from Yobe.

Kanuri and Hausa are two different tribes
And d Kanuris were a beautiful and proud people. The proginators of d Great Kanem-Bornu empire. Wateva happend to them??

I find it amusing that those who take extreme delight whenever BH strikes to score cheap political points are here pontificating over an outcome elsewhere totally in tandem to their conducts here . . . .

All stake holders in France has taken a common stance against terror, unlike the shifty characters who pride themselves as progressives in Nigeria . . . . . .

You guyz are obviously deceiving yourself . . . .

You first line is lame already.

All stakeholders stood with the Nigerian government in the early years of Bokoharam
