Gov. Kwankwaso Appoints A Christain Female Acting Chief Judge For Kano State by AMvanquish: 12:37pm On Jan 11, 2015 |
Kano State governor, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwan kwas o , has sworn in Justice Patricia Mahmoud as the acting Chief Judge of the state The acting Chief Judge replaces the Chief Judge, Justice Shehu Abubakar, who will officially retire on the January 10, 2015. Speaking during the swearing in ceremony, which took place at the Government House on Friday, Kwankwaso said, the appointment was in line with Section 271 ,Sub section 4 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Section, he added, stipulated that the most senior judge should act pending the appointment of a substantive Chief Judge. Kwankwaso stressed that his administration would continue to work harmoniously with the judicial arm of government, while appealing to striking judicial workers to end the strike and return back to work in the interest of the nation. The governor recalled the achievements of his administration in the judiciary, saying, he constructed 30 Sharia courts, 26 magistrate courts, including some other on going constructions, since coming to power. He further observed that arising from this feat, no judicial officer in the state is operating officially from a rented apartment as at today. In his remarks, the out-going Chief judge of the state, Justice Shehu Abubakar, thanked the state government for the cordial relationship between the executive and the judiciary during his tenure, while describing the incoming acting Chief Judge as hardworking and incorruptible. Justice Patricia Mahmoud, an Idoma woman from Benue State, is married to Barrister Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud (SAN) , an indigene of Kano State. She joined the Kano State Civil Service in 1991 and worked in the state Ministry of Justice from where she rose to her present position. Source: http://sunnewsonline.com/new/?p=99613 1 Like 1 Share

She is the most senior! Thus the only qualified? So, whats the big deal? If he didnt appoint her, then kano will exprience the Rivers state "progresive-ism". Some people are already sounding like he did the woman or even christians a favour! Nigerians are just too gullible. 1 Like |

noblezone: She had been denied twice in the past of the same post due to her state of origin and political scheming. Kwankwaso shunned all that this time around and went ahead to appoint her. 5-10 years ago, I don't think this would be possible. Times are changing. |

AMvanquish: Ok. They were doing somthing illegal and nobody dared to challenge them. So we should clap for the governor for doing what he was supposed to do? I dont think the the governor did the woman of Christians any favour. He simply obeyed the constitution which he swore to uphold. |
