NYSC A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME!!!
In my own opinion, I feel NYSC is a waste of time &
intellectual resources as most corp members who are
willing to serve have got nothing doing.
Using myself as a case study,between the time I left
camp and the time I put up this writeup (15th of DEC
2014 & 16th of Jan 2015) I've been sleeping in the
corner of my room not because I choose to but
because my said PPA (i.e place of primary assignment
which has turned out to be place of playing assignment
for corp members) is yet to be ready.Even those who
already got theirs has more or less nothing to do. A
friend of mine "wale" posted to Niger state claims he
resumes at work 11am & closes 1pm,another friend
posted to Kara state claimed they were just jam packed
to a local government Secretariat where there is next
to nothing to do. My girlfriend posted to Taraba state
said the schools out there are on indefinite vacation. I
still know so many of my other colleagues who are
ghost workers in respective location not because they
are lazy but because they feel staying there is just a
waste of time & therefore seek for something better to
engage themselves in. Corp members only end up
wasting 365days in claim of serving our father land and
the NYSC anthem says "Youth obey the clarion
call...",the fact is, there isn't any call for we the youth to
obey because the elders have got no errand for us (that
is if its even only we the youths that are putting in for
NYSC because I can remember seeing some corp
members who are old enough to be my dad & mum
obeying the clarion call#whoisfoolingwho?).
My point is,since government claimed they spend
approximately #1m on each corp member yearly (this
includes money spend on kits,feeding,medical if any,
security in camp & our almighty #19800 monthly
allowee out of which na only #18500 I see collect after
bank claimed some bank charges is to be deducted).
Why not give each graduate upon graduation if not the
#1m, at least, #500000 as loan without interest to
business minded graduates like me to start something
after school. By so doing,unemployment will be
reduced & better d standard of living of an average
Nigerian.Now I understood the reason why a corp
member that was part of INEC ad hoc committee for
osun state election eloped with the money meant for
the settlement of other officials because he has
thought of what life has for him after NYSC.
Please let's us stop the saying that "think of what you
can do for your country and not what your country can
do for you" because I believe in the Yoruba adage that
says "gbà fún múrí nílé ni gbà fún gbàjà lóko". This is a
food for thought for our looters claimed leaders as we
approach another election period.

The truth is, for some it may look this way while you may meet people who ll give you a different(pleasant) story
I just think you can use the spare time to develop yourself the more eg. by reading books, doing courses such as pgde, getting to know places, making good friends etc

You don't need to mind the engish most importantly is the message he is trying to pass, and I think you can grap that

Bro,you should know that the program has outlived its original purpose of creating solidarity amongst Nigerian youths in the post civil war era.
The main purpose why the present government still sustain the scheme is to "slow down "the multitude of young graduates exiting the school into the labour market,
This is done through
Payment for no work done
Idleness and less work
Government freebies in form of allowee
Even some of ur employers will tell you that there is nothing to do "in this ministry" but just come around ones in a week.

A food for thought!

I am also a C14 Corp member and truth be told NYSC is a waste of time and human resources. I came out of camp since 24th of November last year and I have not been able to contribute anything meaningful in my PPA, reason being that the school has been on holiday. Thank God I took some books and materials along with me, it would have been one hell of time.

I think NYSC should also review their posting policy because it beat my imagination as an Engineering graduate teaching in a Primary school, I didn't imagine myself in such level at all. May be its all good after all.

I think we should try to make use of any available opportunity in this time to develop ourselves be it for the job market or self employment, we should try to read as much as possible, get new skills, get informations, save out of the meager amount and look forward to the world beyond.

I agree wit d writer but as per sharp guy i enroll myself in a PGD programme wich i'm finishing d same time wit d so call NYSC.God bless Nigeria.
