They are not too expensive if they deliver the goods. But for now things are not working in the whole team. Falcao and Van Persie should be part of chances creation in the team. Suarez was creating the most chances for Liverpool as well as being their top scorer for two seasons.

that's why they are poachers.
They depend largely on created chances.
U cannot expect them to suddenly turn into complete forwards, especially at this stage of their careers.
They WILL struggle badly if u assign the role of complete forwards to them.
Infact that's the reason falcao's struggle is very obvious.
He has been asked too get himself involved in the team's play
That's not who he is.

That's like expecting a pirlo or a xavi to suddenly become a box to box midfielder to suit a team's need.
It'll be easier to get a box to box midfielder from the market.

Suarez is a perfect example of a complete forward.
And its someone in that mould that we should be looking out for.

Having that in addition to ONE of RVP/falcao will be much more ideal than having a front two of falcao and RVP.

Do you still think Airbornelacer was foolish to label Southampton title contenders?

I noticed you didn't answer the other day...

the 3-5-2 has been the most boring layout seen in Man United this season & should be discarded, every other permutation na English Language.

I DID!

Yea, its fooolish. Very fooolish.

The argument should be if they are 'genuine' top 4 contenders not title contenders.

Can u bet on them finishing in top 4? undecided

Okay, I get you now. Your are correct. It will be far more beneficial to play a lone poacher. Two poachers is a burden/liability to the team. The other 9 players have too much to do.

So far so good, they've beaten or drawn three members of the top 4, and have the best defence in the leave having conceded the fewest number of goals.

The have no distractions in Europe, and only have to contend with the FA cup this year.

And they're in 3rd place, only 10 points from the top. As we all saw last season, the guys who were 12 points clear in January ended up finishing 4th

So why do you not think they can be called title contenders? Because of a lack of pedigree? Because there is certainly precedent in Chelsea and more recently Man City...

1. they lack that required squad depth
we all saw what happened to them when they were hit by a few injuries and suspensions.
They went on an embarrassing losing streak.

2.It can also be argued that they are this position now largely due to the fact that the uniteds and arsenals have failed to turn up, YET and these two aren't even considered title contenders.
I wouldn't bet on soton finishing above these two how then do u expect me to consider them title challengers

And 10pts from this mourinho's chelsea isn't "just".
Madrid will have a hard time chasing it down in this league, not to talk of soton.

chelsea had finished in the top 4 several times before jose arrived in 04/05. city also finished 3rd in 10/11 before winning it in 11/12. southampton cannot come from nowhere and win the title....it just doesn't work that way. no team outside the top 4 in the previous season has won the league. it's always a gradual step to the throne.

southampton won't finish in the top-4 sef. arsenal will beat them to it but i see them finishing 5th or 6th.

Firstly, I don't buy the 'squad depth' excuse. This is the same southampton that sold their all their key players save for Schneiderlin last summer. Yet they're in third place now.

Chelsea has lost twice already this season AND dropped points to Southampton. It is not a foregone conclusion that we would win this year...Afterall we were neck and neck with City on the log this time last week...

Also, there's a difference between contender and champion.

In boxing, the contenders are the top 10 ranked boxers in a weight division, who then compete to be mandatory challenger for the title.

Similarly, in the EPL, the contenders for the title are the top 4 teams on the log, since you have to be that close to be considered to have a realistic even if outside chance at the title.

And I think the point Airbornelacer was trying to make that day was that, as long as Soton keep up the pressure(ostensibly by maintaining a top 4 spot), they can be legitimately be called Title Challengers...does that sound so foolish to you?

I see the reason for the argument is the different interpretations of the term 'title challengers'

Having the leaders 'within touch' and being in a decent run of form just isn't enough.

Sevilla and valencia are just 5 and 6 points off leaders off madrid.
Can we term them title challengers?

A lot of other factors have to be considered too.
Otherwise, virtually everyone in the league still have a 'chance' of catching chelsea, do we call them all.

A title challenger for me is a team that has a realistic chance of becoming champs come may.
And right now, only two teams fall in that category.

It'll take something spectacular. Something like a miracle for the title to go to any other team outside those 2.
Something as big as the munich air disaster (God forbid) not necessarily as disastrous tho.

I suppose time will tell...

But a 10 point lead is not insurmountable...

And why can't sevilla be considered title contenders? What happened with Atleti last year?

Main quotes from Fridays press conference:

On Falcao:
"If a player costs £95million or £5,000, it doesn't make any difference. You have to prove yourself. Falcao has to prove himself. We have made a deal and everything is clear. It's not the end of the year so he has a chance.

On top 4 finish:
"We have to fight for it - a lot of other teams have the same goal. Of course I think we can do it, but that's football, we lost against Southampton and we were the better team. That's football.”

On January transfers:
"They have to be better than the players we already have. I don't think that we shall be very active."

On RVP:
"We have to wait and see. I have read in the Netherlands that he [Van Persie] is already unavailable. Ok...we'll wait and see."

Manchester United: Boss Van Gaal says Falcao must prove himself

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal says striker Radamel Falcao still needs to justify his place at Old Trafford.

Falcao, 28, has scored three goals since joining United in a £6m loan move from AS Monaco in the summer.

Van Gaal said: "If a player costs £95m or £5,000, it doesn't make any difference. You have to prove yourself."

The Colombia international was left out of United's squad for their 1-0 home loss to Southampton last Sunday.

He has started just seven Premier League games for United and his agent Jorge Mendes suggested that Falcao may not extend his stay beyond the end of the season .

United have an option to activate a £40m buy-out clause for the striker, who earns £265,000 a week.

Van Gaal added: "He has to prove himself, that we have agreed. We have made this deal and everything is clear and it is not the end of the year [the duration of his loan spell] so he has the chance for that.

"For the manager it is the quality of the training sessions, the quality in his performances and matches and he has to compare [favourably].

"A player of £95m has to prove himself also. Maybe he has less motivation so I have to be like that."

Van Gaal would not confirm whether Falcao would be involved in United's game at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday or whether striker Robin van Persie would be fit to play following an ankle injury.

However, the Dutchman did quell speculation of a major move into the transfer market during the January transfer window.

He said: "I don't think that we shall be very active as not many players of a certain level are available.

"When we buy a player he has to be better than the players that are playing now and that is a difficult job."

Rooney's inaccurate pass record is the best among our CMs.

Inaccurate short pass per min:
Anderson 10.1
Fellaini 12.6
Herrera 13.1
Rooney 13.5

Lest I forget, he is not near among the worst in inaccurate long passes.
