Why Wasn't The APGA Candidate Invited To The Lagos Governorship Debate? by VirginFinder: 9:16pm On Jan 16, 2015
Abeg, make una no vex o!

Since yesterday(15th January), when the governorship debate for the candidates of the major parties vying for the Lagos state governorship position held, the media - online and offline, has been awash with details of the debate.

Unfortunately, I couldnt watch it.

However one thing that struck me was the absence of the flagbearer of APGA, Bob Okey Okoroji.

My question is; why was he not invited?
Or why did the media choose to deliberately leave him out of their reportage?

His name was not mentioned as one of the candidates present neither was his performance rating stated if he did attend the debate at all.

Whatever the case, it says a lot about his candidacy and eligibility.

Had the APGA candidate been Yoruba, he definitely would have been invited and/or rated.

This is another lesson for ibos as regards Lagos politics. It's a NO NO to ibos!!

The Igbos shouldn't have presented him.

I take it that they were just seeking attention.

Nigeria is very tribal, Igbos shouldnt rouse the sensibilities of other tribes unnecessarily.

Yes.Me Again.

What Igbos will not take in Alaigbo, they shouldn't give in someone else's land...its called mutual respect..

Just accept the fact that Lagosians were fortunate to have their homeland developed for them massively by the FG and confine yourselves to buying and selling.

There's no need to flog this issue.

Which one is buying and selling again?
So Igbos only do buying and selling yet your people cannot stop crying to oil companies for job positions that are being occupied by well educated Igbos.
More than half of those employed by Hailliburton last year after the recruitment exercise were Igbos, your people who participated in the aptitude test but were beaten hands down had to stage a violent protest, Halliburton was force to organise a ''special'' aptitude test for them alone just to absorb one or two maintain peace.
You cannot compete with Igbos in any sphere of live so don't reduce them to buying and selling you hear?
Take heart.

If i have the power. I would demolish the Ist Niger bridge, and severe any links Ndiigbo have with Lagos. Force them to think home, invest in our sea port at Obuaku, upgrade Enugu Airport, and get the embassies to have their branches in Enugu.

Their obsession with Lagos is unhealthy and detrimental to Igboland.
Okpara sought to recreate a city to rival Lagos in the East, and even topple Lagos, if we(Ndiigbo) can't see the wisdom in that vision and fight to bring it to reality, then we are lost as a people.

A functional sea port, a real functional intl airport and embassies at Enugu, and a good network of roads to connect the Airport and port to the industries that are and would spring up in Aba, Onitsha,Nnewi,Owerri and Abakaliki is what Ndiigbo need, not a silly 2nd Niger bridge, that encourages Ndiigbo obsession with Lagos and helps Lagos maintain her monopoly to our(Ndiigbo) detriment.

Forget formal academic UN definition, I am talking simple reality. Igbo people have left and are still leaving their homeland in their millions to survive elsewhere in Nigeria. If that is not refuge seeking I wonder what is. Una take heart you are a refugee if you are outside your igbotic enclave.

That means we have millions of Yoruba refugees in Nigeria.
We have the ones doing tailoring in Aba and Onitsha, we have some doing Mechanic and Car wash in PH, some working in Oil companies, some are barbers and traders in villages (not even cities) in Rivers, some are traders in the north, many are selling herbal medicine all over Nigeria.

Well written.

When GEJ became president, i expected some massive infrastructural development by the FG in Port Harcourt as almost every form of development in PH was undertaken by RVSG..i hoped that he would also end the monopoly of Lagos Ports and transfer some federal agencies down to PH. We prayed that his emergence will create a megacity that will be the pride of SSoutherners and everyother Nigerian but 6years and nothing to show...I dnt eant to turn this to a GEJ review session but hes failed us so badly.

So bro, you just have to accept the realities that u need Lagos and you have to create an environment to prosper in it and one of such ways is being at peace with your host.

Tell me where Yorubas are found in their millions outside their territory? How many Yorubas have you seen outside Yoruba land?

We are not refugees because our homeland has enough to sustain us.

I thought you said anybody found outside his homeland is a refugee?
Yorubas are found in their millions in Rivers state, you find them in PH, outskirt villages like Omagwa, the dreaded Aluu, Igwurita, Eneka, Etche etc. My work takes me to those places. There is a part of Aluu where you will find more Yorubas than indigenes.
Apart from the few working in oil companies there, the rest are taxi drivers, herb sellers, petty traders, barbers, mechanics, tailors, car washers, agberos etc.
I also learnt there are a good number of Yoruba ''refugees'' in Kano, though I haven't been there.
Your numbers are also rising in Onitsha and Enugu, so be careful of the things you say.

Ndiigbo doesn't need Lagos, they just don't know it yet.

With the fall in crude oil prices, and the correspondent fall in states monthly allocations, only states with high IGR would survive the heat, and still be able to sustain infrastructural development.

Ndiigbo must not be satisfied with being just retailers for industries in Lagos, providing IGR for Lagos state.

We need to start producing ourselves, we need to bring these industries back home or simply replicate them, to provide employment to our youths and improve the IGR of our states, and to enable us to compete favourably, we need a master plan that would involve:

1. A functional seaport, preferably at Obuaku Ndoki,Abia state. If we could build an airport after the war when we had nothing, there is nothing we set eyes on that we can't achieve, only a political will is needed.

2. Enugu International airport upgraded to a standard one, with relevant countries lured to open branches in Enugu where Visa interviews can be conducted without involving Lagos or Abuja.

3.A good network of roads to link the Airport and seaport to the New and existing industries in Onitsha, Aba,Nnewi, Owerri, Abakaliki and other Igbo towns were industries would be set up.

All that is needed are visionary and Igboist( Not a One Nigerian) leaders and political will.

The only use of. Niger bridge should be to connect the SE to Anioma, I believe a single bridge can serve that purpose, once we break our dependence on Lagos.

^^^The bolded is just what some jealous wicked peeps would work against.....the diseased vermin you're quoting being one of them!!

I laugh at anyone that thinks all you've stated in bold can be allowed in Alaigbo (especially the FUNCTIONAL seaport at Obuaku); for as long as 1) we remain in this country with these wicked 'fellow countrymen', and 2) the status-quo remains of an almighty and overbearing center dictating to the regions/states/ethnicities.....for as long as these two obstacles are in place, you can forget Ndigbo having a true economic emancipation from this cesspit of a country!

If we get any of the things you listed at all, it will be in the general scheme of things where each of the other five regions/zones will tag along and be included; the unwritten rule is you are not allowed to prosper too much to the point of leaving the others behind.....that's the whole point of the status-quo! A case in point is the new terminal at AIIA: see how they got a loan for building 4 others, but when Princess Stella wanted to include AIIA, Tambuwals house of reps refused; if not for her dogged determination, we wouldn't have got the one presently being built (which happens to be the cheapest of the lot as money had to be found in-house)! Do you know Ajaokuta steel company was recommended to be built at Onitsha?......Our Hausa/Fulani 'brothers' and their helpers down south over-ruled that suggestion and built it in present day Kogi, while they gave Onitsha a piffling MTI!

You can never have a situation where a singular billion dollar or high networth investment (like the dam GEJs gov't is presently building in the north, the refinery and petrochemical coys, a military industrial complex, etc) is sited solely in the South East (SE)! The only way they would allow the SE to get anything is if other regions/zones (or at least two in particular) are included.....we see this with the new airport terminals!

The fact of the matter is we cannot reach our full potential as a people while we're bogged-down in this cursed entity called Nigeria: let us go they say no; oya, restructure the country let everyone develop at their own pace...they still say no; and yet the hatred and bile they have for Igbos is unparalleled!

You have valid points.

Outright secession from Nigeria is a must for Igboland if we must control our destiny and reach our full potential. Only the naive, the foolish and the greedy Igbo is a one Nigerian apologist.

Btw, those two groups are not "our Brothers", we have the same thing in common with them, as we have with the Kenyans, we have no business co existing in same country with them, it's an error that must be corrected.

The Only thing is that igbos are still very naive as tO the realities inherent in present day nigeria.all we've to do is play the game as its supposed tO be played...which is masking Our demands as thOugh it would benefit others not us.eg
1]states: the SE should shelve the demand for additiOnal states in the zone and instead clamOur fOr creation of Anioma in the SS; Ibadan in the SW; Apa in the NC and Gurara in the NW. The SE wOuld only demand the return Of certain LGs tO the SE eg oyigbO tO abia,ONELGA to imo,abi in CRS and igboid parts of benue to ebonyi.in that case awusas and ofe'mmanus wOuld agree kOs "igbos" wont gain anything
Would be right back
