Re: Why Do Most Churches Make It Mandatory For Women To Cover Their Hair In Church? by KoloOyinbo(m): 8:37pm On Jan 18, 2015 |
Neplusultra: NOTHING is wrong with it! NOTHING is right with it! Reverence is shown in many different ways in many different cultures. If people worried more about what is in THEIR OWN hearts instead of what is on their neighbours head then they might be better Christians! Do we go to Church to worship God or criticise your neighbour like some Pharisee? |

1 Corinthians 11:3-10New International Version (NIV) 3 But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man,[a] and the head of Christ is God. 4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5 But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is the same as having her head shaved. 6 For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head. 7 A man ought not to cover his head,[b] since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. 8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; 9 neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10 It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own[c] head, because of the angels. 13 Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered? 14 Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, 15 but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering. |

I honestly wonder why people stress themselves over religion? All life ends one way wether born again or Muslim and that is six feet deep. What happens after that is none of your concern, cos no one has ever come back to tell us how far.... |

kikelomojessy: Some excellent quotes. Let us put them in context to [b]understand the message! Be respectful according to the social mores of the time/place and culture you are in. (Guys please don't all rush to have your hair cut off! LOL) Educated Christians all over the world are very aware of these verses but understand them enough not to worry about frivolous and trivia matters that have nothing to do with Christianity. See some excellent explanations further back in this thread. If it was as simple as reading three verses and slavishly following them without thought why would the vast majority of Christians all over the world not blindly follow it? |

Re: Why Do Most Churches Make It Mandatory For Women To Cover Their Hair In Church? by KoloOyinbo(m): 9:42pm On Jan 18, 2015 |
MarieSucre: Paul made clear this was advice NT the law. Yes I know people keep quoting the SAME passages here. The explanation of those passage is contained in many posts within this thread. You don't really need that explanation anyway. How could any responsible Christian actually consider that this silly issue had anything to do with Christianity and our Saviour? God has given us so much can we not return a little time to THINK about the meaning in the scriptures and what is the unchanging message throughout time and from culture to culture? Be respectful and modest in whatever manner is appropriate for your culture. The Bible is not a fashion statement for one culture over another! Cover or not is up to the individual. Perhaps if we spent less time quoting the Bible and actually read it and tried to understand it this silly and irrelevant confusion would not occur. I do see the attraction in such a basic and literal interpretation but feel we should try and understand matters deeper. Fortunately this is nothing that most Christians would worry about. Lets leave it to the fundamentalists who don't like to look very far for their meanings. |

Re: Why Do Most Churches Make It Mandatory For Women To Cover Their Hair In Church? by MarieSucre(f): 9:56pm On Jan 18, 2015 |
Stallione:Firstly Mary mother of Jesus did not cover her hair for religious reasons it was for environmental reasons. common jewish women and men put on head covering as protection for their scalp against the desert scorching sun and used the end that flapped down to protect their eye, nose and mouth from the granules that were whipped up from desert storms that are quite frequent whence it passed into cultural use like our traditional gele. women did not frequently put on veils to walk the streets. such continous depiction of Mary with a veil and also Jesus with long hair calls for inquisition and verification. |

When it comes to what the bible says, ε̲̣̣̣̥ humans choose the ones that suits us to follow. Most of us can't do or practice 6 of God's commandment, but wit God giving us insight and diligence ε̲̣̣̣̥ will start practicing His will. Most of our pastors omit som crucial issues that are suppose to be taught in churches and instead move to topics that won't annoy any member. I dnt blame people cos there is difference btw ignorance and knowledge. KoloOyinbo: |

MarieSucre: All the posts keep going over the SAME points. The fundamentalists quoting literally and out of context to get us follow a SOCIAL convention no longer relevant to man. Those who try and understand the deeper means but are exasperated by the failure of our brothers and sisters to understand the message. Please realise the rest of Christianity the world over is looking at you!!!! |

MarieSucre: you seem hinged on some kind of rusted iron. To be very clear, I want to believe you attend a church where women dont cover hairs so you are hinged to church not to the bible. Read that bible verse, come here, narrate what you read here in your own understanding and behold, if u still say wat u said above u need help. . . I can deliver u then. |

kikelomojessy: Hence the importance of actually THINKING and indeed following our conscience. We KNOW when we have sinned and done wrong and a mere hair covering or otherwise is irrelevant. |
Re: Why Do Most Churches Make It Mandatory For Women To Cover Their Hair In Church? by kikelomojessy(f): 10:37pm On Jan 18, 2015 |
What verse 3-10 means is when ever a woman is praying , her hair should be covered. Verse 15 : her hair is provided as a covering, simply means since its her natural hair she does not need to cover it always but during prayer its a must. But come to think of it, how many Africa can proudly show off their hair without wigs, attachment etc? §Ơ̴̴̴̴̴̴͡ during prayer it must be covered. |

Miscellaneous:what do you make of verse 15. should we chuck it in the waste bin because it does not conform to your perspective or the age-long traditions followed by your church which are clearly shown through that verse to be unbiblical. again, what do you make of verse 15? |
Re: Why Do Most Churches Make It Mandatory For Women To Cover Their Hair In Church? by MarieSucre(f): 10:49pm On Jan 18, 2015 |
KoloOyinbo:Some christians can be funny at times. The 'long hair ish' is still another matter. Paul could make such statements because he was directing it to semitic women who could grow long hair. For crying out loud a woman used her hair to wipe Jesus feet! Do you know how hard and tenous it is to grow negro hair? some of us can't even use our hair to tickle our eyebrows. as our people say--'abeg leave matter for Martha'. |

MarieSucre: You should not have asked. I will answer you. Those who follow Yahshua keep the law. It is your large cult, which started in rome, that teaches otherwise. And here is a thread to help: https://www.nairaland.com/1873588/gods-laws-commandments-done-away Also, in the Kingdom, we shall be keeping the law and the feast days. Are you ready? |

JesusisLord85: The law, the law. The Pharisee and the law! How can anyone who has looked into their heart and prayed believe that such primitive trivialities actually matter. Thank God such silly irrelevancies are confined to a few (hopefully well meaning) groups usually in the less advanced parts of the world. I am reminded of the Amish in America who drive horse buggies etc and live as if it was the late 1700's. Mostly good people I am sure but such poor understanding! |
