ABUJA -- The Federal Government has expressed disappointment over the execution by firing squad of two Nigerians, Solomon Okafor and Daniels Enemuo, by the Government of Indonesia despite its pleas.

The Nigerians were executed for drug related offences at the Island of Nusakambangu in Cilacap, Central Java Province. Also executed with them were two women, one each from Indonesia and Vietnam, two Brazilians, and one Dutch national (The Netherlands).

The executions were carried out despite persistent pleas for clemency by the Federal Government, including the National Assembly. The executions had taken place despite excellent relations that subsists between Nigeria and Indonesia.

Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Ogbole Amedu Ode in a statement, yesterday, reiterated its appeal to Nigerians to desist from drug trafficking which attracts capital punishment in Indonesia and in many other countries around the world.

"The government will continue to engage the Indonesian authorities to negotiate and conclude a Prisoner Transfer Agreement that may enable other convicted Nigerians to return home to serve their prison terms. Thus, the Foreign Minister has summoned the Indonesian Ambassador to register Nigeria's protest."

Meantime, it appealed to the Indonesian authorities to exercise clemency for other 12 Nigerians on death row in that country.

Jonathan is used to granting clemency to criminals and people of questionable character. Indonesia and other Asian countries are very clear on their position on drug related offence. The Punishment is Death!!!! Very Simple! So why will someone break the law and still expect fake clemency? No society can be better with pardoning every offenders. They must face the law. Rather, the FG should ensure that the offenders/suspects are granted fair hearing and that they discourage our youths from taking to crimes both at home and abroad. Whoever default any law Should pay for it.

I have zero pity for any fools peddling drugs in these Asian countries! It's no different to one playing Russian-roulette with his own head!

If they keep killing Nigerians at this rate, it will take at least 1000 days (about 3years) for them to match what BH kills in 1 day. Please FG first condemn and prevent the killing of innocent Nigerians happening everyday at your backyard in your country.

Please do quick and kill the remaining Nigerians on your death roll. They know the laws of that country before breaking it, its not Nigeria where everything goes.

The laws of the land is clear cut on the punishment for any drug offenders
So, he who goes to a foreign land and push drugs is doing that at his own risk because he knows the consequences of being caught

But, my only problem is that if these guys were given a fair hearing
If they were, and those guys were found guilty..... Let them faces the consequences.
At least its not only them that were killed, their still some other nationalit too and even their own citizens

How many indigenes of Baga are members of Boko Haram? Northern region of Nigeria in general and Northeastern part in particular stood up Boko Haram. There is nothing such as innocent people of Baga when atrocities of Boko Haram are concerned.

Why not condemn the series of deaths on Nigerians who doesn't deserve to die due to the failure to secure their lives? Why condemn deaths of those who breached the law of another country by pushing drugs?

Foolishness at its peak!

In your wisdom the Baga people shot themselves and deliberately made themselves refugees in neighbouring countries?

The Northern region of Nigeria including the people of Baga swelled the rank and file of Boko Haram. Of course, I state unequivocally that there are indigenes of Baga who are members of Boko Haram. Unless you want to hint that majority of Boko Haram members are Yoruba.

Why am I not surprised at their names? If they had succeeded now, they would be the envy of town, building mansions, marrying finest babes, bagging chieftancy titles and those seeking a honest living would be made to look like idiotss. I have no pity for people like this

Everyone knows Indonesia and Malaysia execute drug criminals, yet another set of "sharp and brave" guys would attempt it next time, when these countries now carry out their law on them we would be shouting

Saw in on Amaechi's program some mins ago on AIT.

Minister of Foreign Affairs had a meeting with Indonesia's Ambassador.

Nigeria is pleading that the twelve more Nigerians on death row should have their death sentence commuted to prison terms.

Hope the request shall be granted by the Indonesian government.

And Our Brothers should stop hard drugs trafficking.

Lobatan.

Our goverment probably didn't give a damn about the 'citizens' but every other country affected protested and even recalled their ambassadors. so they too must also follow suite and make international news. Same thing with the France killings, meanwhile thousands die weekly on home soil. Change is inevitable. I hope Nigerians get it right this time.

You must be eating and drinking Jonathan always? Does he give you orga*m
Did countries like Netherlands that went as far as recalling their ambassador because their plea for mercy for their citizens was ignored by Indonesia also used to pardoning criminals like Jonathan according to you
If you know better; what's the need and use for that presidential power on "prerogative for mercy"? Is that power to be exercised on saints or sinners
As a christian I presume you're; what do you know about God, mercy & forgiveness?

I am critising not insulting. It is the height of hypocrisy if they don't 'protest' more about lives wasted everyday on home soil and do more to stop the killings as they have direct control over this.

Hypocrisy is when you cry foul for the death of 2 drug traffickers in a foreign land but feign ignorance for the loss of over 2000 law abiding citizens in your back yard.
