B-H isn't chasing the Nigerian army, on the contrary, they(BH) are on the back foot. Nigeria's northern borders have always been porous. It is impossible to effectively police Nigeria's northern borders.

It isn't about porous boarders but the ineffectiveness of your army in the battlefield against BH.

SANDF has no uniform for Sahara or Arabian kind of desert warfare type of terrain. Those your dark brownie uniforms will make SANDF soldiers easy target in yellow sand deserts, enemy will see your positions from kilometres away.
