Hello house, I recently noticed this on a few of my birds. I guess it is fowl pox. The birds were vaccinated when they were 12 weeks, they are now over 60weeks. Please how do I treat this? Do I need to re-vaccinate? Thanks.

Regarding AAJI and justified 19 posts, the pictures you posted may be a classical case of fowl pox as predicted by FarmTech, but I'll like to advise that urgent measures be taken to cull the birds and other affected ones. Avian Influenza virus aka bird flu has resurfaced and it can manifest some of those signs;so you never can tell what case you're handling. Also report that case to your local vet\animal health worker. A farmer last week had similar challenges and reported the case to us; we swiftly responded to address the situation, the farm had to be decontaminated, depopulated to avert full outbreak. All poultry farmers are hereby enjoined to step up biosecurity measures on their farm; there should be no unauthorized entries, foot and car dip, regular spraying of birds and surroundings with mild disinfectants, washing of hands before and after handling birds, Mortalties should be buried deep in the ground and sprayed with disinfectants, etc. Best wishes, all. 4 Likes 1 Share |

utchlady:Madam, this isn't an ideal poultry house as this will cause poor ventilation, you don't even build on a wall-apologies,ma. My Advise: reduce the coaches as previously advised and based on experience, methinks your birds would be better off on deep litter than in cages with this type of construction. Also, plan to install at least ceiling fans and iced blocks to combat excessive temperature. Concerning point of lay and D.O.C source, you may consider the big names in the industry as they have a name to protect but please ensure you do flock profiling of the birds at a good laboratory. Many thanks and best wishes. |

Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by twoMcfemad: 4:18pm On Jan 21, 2015 |
@Obnelly, heat stress has been for some time now and its been practically challenging to curtail. My advise: 1. Feeding pattern should be adjusted as birds should be fed during the cooler parts of the day- early in the morning-6am and 4-4.30pm in the evening. I'll advise 60-10-30 feeding pattern. 2. In a case where you formulate your feed, you'll need adjust ur feed formula(energy content)to suit this period. If you're using commercial feeds, The company knows what to do. 3. Provide ventilation fans and iced blocks, provide shade for your water tanks if its not within the pen house, ensure the wiremesh\nets are properly dusted 4. Ensure the birds and pen house are sprayed with cold water and mild disinfectants. 5. Introduce vitamins especially ones rich in Amino acids, liver formula, heat stress care preparations are also very important. Herbal preparations are best if you can lay ur hands on them. Waiting to read from the gurus, too. Thanks and best wishes. 3 Likes |
