Hi,
Your replies and inputs are highly informative.
I have a 5KVA and a 3.5KVA inverter used to power different sections of my house. Each is having 8 numbers and 4 numbers 200Ahr batteries respectively. What is the minimum rating of a generator set that I need to charge these inverters separately and also together?

It's been quite a while but the thread keeps getting better
My final question. I have a load of 1.5 kW that I would want to power for 10 to 11 hrs. I have a 3.5kVa inverter (48V) and 4 12V 200AH deep cycle batteries connected in series. How long would it last?
PS Talking through how the answer is arrived at would be very helpful. I might want to play around.
With a load of 1.5kW your draw at the dc side is 31.25A, if you continue with this load for one hour, you'd have drawn 31.25Ah out of your 200Ah bank. Neglecting losses due to battery discharges and cabling and assuming you want to maintain a DoD of 50%, in order to lengthen your battery life, then you can only run this load successfully for 3hrs or 5hrs (worse case scenario & jettisoning DoD) before your inverter shuts down.
To achieve your goals you would need at least another parallel string of 200Ah 48V to bring your storage Ah to 400Ah minimum.
Alternatively you may work on your load, take lighting and some other load to dc with very low consumption, so that your overall consumption is considerably reduced.
Remember power at the dc side of your inverter=power at the ac side (theoretically speaking and assuming minimal losses) consequently current draw is a ratio of rated power to voltage. hope this helps

as a student i guess you generator will be i pass my neighbor, if that is what you have and there is no regular PHCN, charging will be difficult for you most especially when its down. at times it takes 12 hours to charge a battery to full. think twice

the discharge is minimal but if you feel bothered, you have to do a manual work often and often buy removing the terminal to avoid discharge

im sure the both will be at 15 amp maximum charging current, say the inverter will draw btw 15amp to 17amp when the battery is low, we are saying 30amps to 35amps at low voltage, the current tends to reduce as battery voltage rise to full voltage. so considering fridge an freezer on get 7 kva generator minimum

ok, I have a 2.5kva prag inverter with 4 200A batteries. I recently heard about an LG 1HP AC that can work at 0.9kva using a generator mode feature on it. In order words reducing the start up power consumption that normal traditional AC exhibit.

My question is does the generator of 2.5kva and the inverter of 2.5kva operate in the same manner, and would it be safe to connect the LG 1HP AC that has the feature of Generator mode to the inverter?

Thanks

the 2.5kva inverter will run your ac well, adding the start up consumption you get up to 1500w and you are left with 500watt to plat with, but if you say it doesn't consume better for you. inverter and generator produce same voltage, frequency rating but mode of operation is different. if you are sure abt the ac parameter you said go ahead

It helped a lot. I had made similar calcs and reduced my load to about 800W (TV, laptop, 2 fans and one monitor plus some small appliance) and for the first seven weeks I used this for greater than 10 hrs. For some reason however I am now only getting 5 hours with the same arrangement. Even with the TV and fans only on I am getting 8 hrs. I am hoping that the inverter guy didnt install crap. I have called him to change the batteries as I suspect one has failed and as they are still under warranty but he is dodging me (typical). I am very shocked as I wasnt expected this until at least a year.

Setup

3.5KVA 48V Mopower inverter
4 12V 200AH Deep Cycle Zenith batteries

I also asked him to install a battery equaliser which he refused to initially and which he is blaming for my misfortunes.

My 3 5kva luminous inverter backed by 4 batteries usually powers my fridge, tv and fans dor two days when fully charged. Now it doesn't power all these items for 24hrs except the fridge is off. What could cause this.

I have had the inverter for 8months.

To be able to help, please supply the following info:

What is your inverter max charging current?
Is your system voltage 24Volt or 48Volt?
What is the capacity of your four batteries? 12V 200AH ?
How many hrs/day do you have NEPA light on average?
Do you have a solar system to charge your batteries?
What is the make and voltage for each battery?

What is the power consumption for each item mentioned above
TV, Fridge, Fan in watts?

Thanks
