The African Union called on Friday for a regional five-nation force of 7,500 troops to defeat the "horrendous" rise of Boko Haram.

"Terrorism, in particular the brutality of Boko Haram against our people, (is) a threat to our collective safety, security and development. This has now spread to the region beyond Nigeria and requires a collective, effective and decisive response," AU commission chair Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma said in a speech opening the summit.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon told African leaders that Boko Haram was "a clear danger to national, regional and international peace and security".

The group's uprising has become a regional crisis, with the four directly affected countries -- Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria -- agreeing along with Benin to boost cooperation to contain the threat and to form a Multinational Joint Task Force.

More than 13,000 people have been killed and more than one million made homeless by Boko Haram violence since 2009.

For those ranting about legalities and illegalities, please read and be educated.

There is an ongoing multinational joint task force to root out Boko Haram.
And it has been yielding results, no more internal saboteurs to worry about.

GEJ till 2019

is this even legal?

Yes, it's completely legal. Nigeria could have a military pact with neighboring countries like Chad, Cameroon, Niger, e.t.c to help combat the terrorists from their end. War against terror is an international war. And even US always work with her allied countries, namely; UK, France, Israel, e.t.c

Samueldo:
Chadian aircraft on Saturday bombed the Nigerian town of Gamboru in a raid targeting Islamist extremist group Boko Haram, security sources said.

A raid was carried out around midday by two fighter jets on the town in Nigeria’s far northeast along the Cameroon border, sources from Chad and Cameroon said on condition of anonymity.

Boko Haram overran the town several months ago as part of its campaign to seize territory in the region and create an Islamic state.

The Boko Haram uprising has become a regional crisis, with the four directly affected countries — Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria — agreeing to boost cooperation to contain the threat.

Nigeria’s military said on Thursday that its fighter jets had bombed the northeast town of Malam Fatori, also controlled by Boko Haram.

Witnesses and some media reports said troops and airforce planes from Chad were also involved in that operation on Nigerian soil but Abuja neither confirmed nor denied the claim.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday gave his backing to an African Union proposal to set up a regional five-nation force of 7,500 troops to fight Boko Haram.

If Nigeria got no bombs?call on cotonue to bomb away. Nigeria has ridiculed itself that any country now drops bomb within its territory while the clueless people are looking for another term.

Nigeria army,Air Force, intelligence as all turned to jokes.

Is patently illegal and in saner climes with a president that knows his left from his right, enough to spark a diplomatic crisis with even the risk of military confrontation.
How dare u invade another country's airspace talkless of carrying out military operations in it.But a situation where u have a president that is as clueless as his face, its going to go down without even a whimper from the Nigerian govt.
He has so neglected Nigerian military in preference to touts like asari and tompolo that even ordinary chad that should be seeking military and financial assistance from us has turned us to a laughing stock.

Much as I share your view ,it would be wrong to quickly conclude that the military action was illegally carried out. For your information, Chad is one of the four countries that have agreed to contribute forces against the insurgents. It could therefore be imputed that the action was rightly done. op must have pasted an incomplete information.
I presumed the headies reads MNJF ....not Chad

i don't care who does the bombing, anything that will work to end Boko Haram is okay by me. If Nigerian military cannot do the job then we should not be too proud to ask anybody for help including Chad, Cameroon, Niger and Ghana too.
If they can help us to defeat Boko Haram we will always be grateful to them for that.

I'm not against asking for help if we can't handle bh on our own but for country to start military operation on our soil without our consent is quite uncalled for.
