With regards to your post about the lack of COIN experience, look at Somalia and look at North Kivu DRC - two highly succesfull COIN campaigns.

It would be illegal for the SANDF to do so - they can only perform policing tasks within 2-5km of the border or if they have a tasking issued by the relevant provincial police commissioner which is confined to road blocks or highly specific tasks within a specif urban environment (if i remember my crim law properly)

Poaching has never been a major SANDF concern
