Too many Nigerians are extremely shortsighted and are often incapable of critical thought about future contingencies and scenario analysis. This explains why we can't plan for the future.

The OP asked a very legitimate, thought-provoking question whose answer can enlighten us and help us prepare for any eventuality. Yet most numskulls that commented here are attacking him and spewing irrelevant sentimental crap.

To answer your question OP, I don't expect Buhari to win the election in the first instance. However, if he wins and unfortunately dies before May 29, Nigeria would be plunged into political crisis. The constitution makes it clear that in such a situation, the running mate (or vice president-elect) would be sworn in instead. But we all know that the North would never accept that, and even the hawks in the PDP would see that as an opportunity to perpetuate their incumbency and call for fresh elections. All kinds of crises would erupt, and some opportunists in the Military would be tempted to intervene. All in all, 'Osinbade' would never be sworn in. Nigeria's democracy and political space is not matured and strong enough to withstand such shocks.

3 things will happen inevitably.

1.) The entire Ijaw Community and all the PDP loyalists will 1st be neutralized & wiped out in the Pogrom that will erupt for the assassination of GMB by Jonathan & his thugs. Thank God Asari Dokubo & Tompolo have already provided enough proofs to support that.

2.) GEJ will flee Nigeria as safety will be his major priority, not handing over, and that is if the Military Officers loyal to the North have not already taken him out by then.

3.) Since Power is expected to return to the North, then there will be a consensus and a Northern candidate will be presented & sworn into Asorock - Shikena!

SO YOU WILL BE BE COMMITTING POGROM AND THE PEOPLE GO JUST SIDDON DE LOOK YOU BAA? YOU NEVER SEE ANYTHING

No 3 is the interesting point. Will the south westerners accept that a northerner is sworn in when their son was part of the winning team? If Osinbajo is not qualified to be president, why is he the running mate?

At last, we are getting intelligent responses.
Where is the bolded in the constitution because I can't see it.

If Buhari wins on 14th February but dies before handover, what happens? Will GEJ hand over to Osinbajo?

Will the North accept that?
Why won't the North accept it? Tinubu is infact praying for such to happen, so that he can rule Nigeria by proxy.

I hope you know that Buhari will not live forever.
And when Yar'Adua died, AREWA did nothing. Bunch of illiterates.

You sound like an uneducated ape. Why would AREWA do anything when Yaradua died of a terminal illness?

GMB survived the 1st attempt on his life in KD, and we know where it came from. Let there be another attempt on his life again and you will know that the Peace Accord signed by the candidates is nothing but a decoy.

Why have politics of ethnicity made some Nigerians to reason like animals? Why wishing fellow citizen dead? Some who didn't offend u in any way. All these people wishing Buhari dead will all die and rot away and Buhari will still be alive. Nobody is God.

In such scenario, GEJ will be right to stay in power and call for new election, in my opinion.

No! The Doctrine of Necessity will be applied, and Osibanjo will be sworn in as the Next President of Nigeria(and he will appoint his VP)...As simple as ABC!!

Op it is simple. You will surely witness the victory of Buhari by Feb.14 but come May 29 on the insulation of Buhari as the next president your own interment shall be taking place at the same time.
