tbaba1234: you're actually wrong. Nigeria gets it's money from Oil primarily and overwhelmingly, then imports, then taxes, so this is one of the only places in the world where the 'government is paid to do a job' model doesn't apply either way yes, government HAS to be accountable to the people which is they it's important to participate in voting and paying your taxes. |

I have written it many times since late 2013, you have to be a landlocked, inner city, unexposed, ignorant, Nigerian system destiny changed, irredeemably local, uneducated, blank and clueless fooool to call what is happening to Railways in Nigeria as TRANSFORMATION. The president can use that expression because he himself does not know better. All the NRC is doing is just achieving part of their annual business plan and they have not even started on 30% of what they should be doing. |

oweniwe:1 train in lagos 1 train out of 36 states 1 train per day instead of 1 every 5 or 10 minutes.do the math man and they are not even high speed trains o guy i understand that when you experience mediocrity for for most of your adult life it is easy to praise even more mediocrity if you have travelled out or at least stop watching nollywood and see what oyinbo and chinko are achieving you will better understand where we are coming from it is easy to sell a man in the desert for 1 pure water |

mikolo80: i said earlier..... "Do you know that NRC is a corporation just like former NEPA....??... Look at Nepa now.... It has been privatized into many discos.... If you want to see lotta trains running about, buying more trains is not the solution.... Change the NRC Act.... Privatize it.... Let private transport and haulage companies bring in their own trains.... And pay NRC for using the system.... Infact, NRC, just like NCC should only play regulatory role.... So change those old laws first... Privatize.... Then things will get better.........!!..." you talked about advance countries.... For how many decades has their rail system been running...??... They are using electric trains abroad.... Nigeria's leaders from Buhari regime in 1982 to ya ardua in 2009..... What effort did they make to improve Nigeria's rail system...??.... nothing....!!... Not even one new wagon was purchased in that period.... If you must blame or criticize anybody for d "basic" state of Nigeria's rail system...., Blame buhari, babangida, abacha, obasanjo and yar adua.... They did nothing about the rails GEJ has done his part give him the credit 1 Like |

oweniwe:was responding to the complaint about criticism even gmb will be criticised it s not by getting annoyed with the critics but by striving to shut them up with action not consoling yourself with 0.5% pass mark and calling that transformation gsm that was transformation from 400000 phones to about 60million in 5 years not 0 trains to 5 locomotives |

mikolo80: Some people's head are made of pangolo.... I live @ Ikeja and i do see trains running dia... Am ok with that.... Beta dan no trains at all You're comparing GSM with rail.... Are mtn, glo, etisalat, airtel run by the govt? you know that you'll have to change the NRC act before private companies can begin to run their trains on the rails.... Now let me ask you.... How many years did it take the FG to change NEPA act to enable them privatize it? The same people who enacted those repressive, anti-development decrees and laws in the 1970s-80s are the ones you want to vote back into power again.... Look at how they used quota system to destroy d country..... The Land use decree, federal character.... Y dont we have private refineries in Nigeria today? Its is because of useless laws and decrees battered into the constitution by the same Buhari that you people have turned to saint cos he picked a yoruba man as his running mate..... Am sure you dont even know that Buhari was part of Gowon, Murtala and Abacha regimes.... Those people really messed up the country..... They started the rot in the education system by taking over Mission schools.... They started the corruption at the ports and petroleum sector when by shutting down our industries/refinaries to award oil blocks and petrol import licenses to their brothers and cronies.... Not one power substation was built by Buhari- abacha.... And you still want to bring them back again.... The same people who ruined your country You're not even ashamed to put "sai buhari" in ur signature. That is why i said i can now understand why people say Buhari is illiterate..... Even you.... You're an illiterate.... You dont know the history of your country i am sorry for you |

oweniwe:smh instead of proving your literacy by reading the article you are ranting/insulting(this is how u know someone has lost an argument) all we said is 0.5% is not transformation na in u wan give urself stroke shebi 0.5% is something eenn na enjoy the something but dont expect me to praise 0.5% output when you have access to 100% input ps when buhari was ther he was trying to fix the root of the problem(corruption) but was removed so his doesnt count in the rot that obj, ibb, etc wrought upon our nation |
Re: ‘ There Is No Transformation In Railway System’ ~ Rowland Ataguba by oweniwe(m): 10:57pm On Feb 02, 2015 |
mikolo80: "by choosing to pay a $500 million fine for breaching the agreement guiding the rail project execution to ensure the Lagos metro rail project was designed by the Jakande government to facilitate transportation within Lagos and surroundings. It was terminated when Buhari military regime took over thus making the country to forfeit a whopping $60 million, which was part of the loan that had been paid by the Jakande administration before Buhari toppled the civilian government." To import goods into the country, businessmen and women must obtain an import licence from the ministry of commerce. As it turned out, award of import licence was skewed heavily in favour of the North, many of whom had neither any knowledge of importation. gunine importers had to pay heavily to purchase import licenses from middlemen of northern extraction. It is on record that by that singular act, Buhari swept many enterprising traders out of business. Just imagine Buhari, after being elected.... Say he wants to preserve Nigeria's foreign reserve by reducing imports.... So he say... Before you can bring tokunbo cars, phones, electronics etc into Nigeria, you'll have to obtain license from min of trade.... that was how these refined petroleum products imports started.... Few northern folks... With the license.... Started importing petrol into the country.... That is why there was regular petrol scarcity until Obasanjo deregulated the downstream sector.... Thats is the same buhari you're hailing as corruption fighter. .................................................................. www.nairaland.com/2127075/ill-ban-importation-rice-tomato "The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Buhari (retd), on Monday said if elected on February 14, he would ban the importation of basic items like rice and tomato in order to enhance local production of the products." Instead of increasing port duty on on those products to make them expensive.... Generate more revenue at ports..... Encourage local processing of rice and tomato to international standards, he want to ban and ban... I agree Nigeria has no biz importin dos stuffs but if you ban them, HOW will you meet local demand? local production cannot meet the demand for rice/tomato.... The price will tripple and then become scarce..... Smuggling will begin to thrive.... To meet Local demand and crash price, he'll then give out import license to few crooks .... So mikolo80, you can see for yourself that Buhari hasnt changed |

Q: What about passengers? A: Well the Ministry of Transport says the NRC carried 4.1m illion passengers in 2012 and 4.2million passengers in 2013 but these are actually misleading statistics because we do not use rail statistics in this way. Let me explain. When the NRC says it carried 4million passengers, it does not mean 4million unique people. What it means is that it sold 4million tickets in the year. Now those 4million tickets could be just 10,000 people travelling to work and back everyday from Agbado to Lagos, say Monday to Friday. In a year, those same 10,000 people would have bought 5million tickets. NRC will then announce that it carried 5million passengers in the year! On the Agbado to Lagos axis alone, Pls how else can a train passengers be calculated in a given period if not by the tickets. Ppl keep displaying their stupidity in public places. |

tbaba1234: Haba, Bros!! No talk dis kind thing again. The railway tracks ran behind my uncle's house in Kaduna and for many years until 1994, we used to see the trains going back and forth tooting their loud horns, even in the middle of the night. All activity stopped that year! The trains were dead! They were revived briefly in 1997-2001. Then they died a 2nd death. We did not see trains running again on those tracks till 2011. Anyway, I agree with the last part of your post about government work being an obligation and a service. In fact, they should be thanking the masses for using the trains!! |
