Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Nobody: 12:29pm On Jan 25, 2015 |
apart from using this long method, you can also do it like this.x+y=5...1 and x^x+y^y=31...2,we break eqn 2 like this x^x+y^y=2^2+3^3 i.e we break down 31.therefore by equating we have x^x=2^2 and y^y=3^3,so x=2 ans and y=3 ans. |
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Nobody: 12:36pm On Jan 25, 2015 |
the solution to the eqn;x+y=5...1 and x^x+y^y=31...2,we can break eqn 2 as this,x^x+y^y=2^2+3^3.so by equating we have x^x=2^2 and y^y=3^3,therefore x=2 ans and y=3 ans. |

Hi everyone! I think we should make this suggestion to seun. We all write mathematical equations and expressions using our phone's symbols list. Apart from the fact that it is not appropriate, it reduces the readability and the zeal to post and attend to mathematical questions. There is a solution! But that depends on seun. There is a mathematical typesetting program called LaTeX which is specifically for typesetting mathematical documents. Not just only available for desktops alone but also available for the web! This is what is being used by forums like math.stackexchange.com/questions/96151/do-imaginary-and-complex-angles-exist And the likes of wikipedia when writing anything mathematical. How do we use it here? Depending on the platform to which this forum is built, there is a plugin will allows us to write such equations. If the plugin can be integrated to this forum, then we are good to go! THEN, We need to learn how to use the language LaTeX. Since we are mathematics student, I believe few if not all of us knew about the use. Unfortunately, since it is not included in our courses at school majority may fail to know about this. SOLUTION I can sacrifice my time to teach us all on how to use this beautiful language. NB: LaTeX is what is being used to write our textbooks, project, thesis and the rest! 4 Likes 3 Shares |

neighy: bolkay47: gof means we should find g of f = g{f(x)}. That is an expression that is defined by the function g of function f of x. f(x) = x + 1 g(x) = -1/x We can get gof by putting f(x) in place of x in g(x) gof = -1/f(x) gof = -1/(x + 1) In case you don't understand, let me use figures to make it clearer. When x = 1, f(1) = 1 + 1 = 2, g(2) = -1/2 = -0.5 According to our solution, gof = -1/(x + 1) = -1/(1 + 1) = -1/2 = -0.5 As you can see, they are the same When x = 10, f(10) = 1 + 10 = 11, g(11) = -1/11 gof = -1/(x + 1) = -1/(10 + 1) = -1/11 Once again, they are the same |

Cymbal: Given (tanθ+cosθ)/(secθ+sinθ)= secθ-sinθ Verify by fixing θ=(π/3) (tan(π/3)+cos(π/3))/(sec(π/3)+sin(π/3)) = (√3+1/2)/(2+√3/2) = (2√3+1)/(4+√3) = ((2√3+1)(4-√3))/((4+√3)(4-√3)) = (7√3-2)/13 = (7√3-2)/13 but the LHS is sec(π/3)-sin(π/3) = (2-√3/2) which shows that (tanθ+cosθ)/(secθ+sinθ)≠ secθ-sinθ Since it's the equation doesn't hold for: θ=(π/3) But it can be shown that: (tan^2(θ)+cos^2(θ))/(secθ+sinθ)=secθ-sinθ Startin frm d RHS! secθ-sinθ =(secθ-sinθ)(secθ+sinθ)/(secθ+sinθ) =(sec^2(θ)-sin^2(θ))/(secθ+sinθ) =(1+tan^2(θ)-sin^2(θ))/(secθ+sinθ) =(tan^2(θ)+cos^2(θ))/(secθ+sinθ) Which is the RHS QE |
