POVERTY INDEX 2004 = 54.4 % 2010 = 61.2% 2011 = 71% 2014/13 = no figures yet The National Bureau of Statistics on Monday said that 112.519 million Nigerians live in relative poverty conditions. Apart from the relative poverty index, other poverty measurement standards are absolute measure, which puts the country’s poverty rate at 99.284 million or 60.9 per cent; the dollar per day measure, which puts the poverty rate at 61.2 per cent; and the subjective poverty measure, which puts the poverty level at 93.9 per cent. The 26-page report, which provides details of poverty and income distribution across the country, put the 2004 poverty measurement rate at 54.4 per cent. The Statistician-General of the NBS, Dr. Yemi Kale, while unveiling the report, noted that the figure might increase to 71.5 per cent when the 2011 figure is computed. www.punchng.com/business/business-economy/112-5-million-nigerians-live-in-poverty-nbs/ 7 Likes |

These are the kind of stats you would never find on NOI polls. That fluffy cheeked crook is gonna join the rest of the bandits counting boxes in the ceiling in kirikiri few months after Buhari is sworn in. 35 Likes 1 Share |

Health care : life expectancy The average life expectancy in Nigeria, which was put at 52 years as of 2011 by the World Bank’s recent report, is the 17th lowest in the world. SUNDAY PUNCH’ s analysis of the report showed that the bottom 20 countries were mainly Sub-Saharan African countries, except Afghanistan, where the average life expectancy was put at 49 years. www.punchng.com/news/life-expectancy-in-nigeria-17th-lowest-globally-report/ A new report released Saturday by the World Health Organisation (WHO) has indicated that life expectancy in Nigeria, Angola and other countries have remained stagnant even as it has increased over the years around the world www.thisdaylive.com/articles/who-report-nigeria-angola-others-life-expectancy-stagnant/178808/ 2 Likes |

I believe these are the key index in measuring national growth, other factors like education, security food security are not provided by the National Bureau of Statistics. I want to beg seun to put this thread on the front page as he did with the buhari administration and you have promised severally that relevant threads will make front page too. Counter arguments are highly welcomed. Lalasticlala, Obinoscopy, Mukina2, ishilove 7 Likes |

Another key sector which has experienced stagnation for the past 6 years is the power sector, which is key to industrialisation and development. Despite the unprecedented level of investment in this sector, and increase in electricity tariff, power generated continues to remain at an embarrassing 4000kw and less (this 4000 could even be attributed to Obj and Yar adua) over the years. I ask: What has Jonathan achieved in the power sector for the over 5 years he has been in power? 16 Likes 1 Share |

The figures are clear for all to see but the government keeps deceiving the masses with colourful economic indices like GDP growth rate and size of economy. Indices that have not affected the common man in any way as poverty keeps increasing and unemployment keeps increasing. The rich are getting richer and the poor and middle class getting poorer. The reason behind this economic anomaly is simple, CORRUPTION!!! You cannot develop a country without paying a single attention to the prevailing astronomic corruption. Attempting to develop the country with the prevailing lootocracy is like attempting to fetch water with a basket. There is economic growth today (there has always been) because Nigerian people are naturally hardworking and smart, not necessarily because of any government policy. But even with the economic growth, the wealth isnt spread because the rich steal the moneys and get richer while the poor gets poorer and oppressed. No one wants to be oppressed so Nigerians engage in all sorts of crimes just to make sure they fall on the greener side. I have absolute confidence that if corruption is 'reduced' (not even eliminated), then the hard working spirit of the typical Nigerian will pay off greatly. I have absolute confidence that in a Buhari presidency, the corruption index will definitely be reduced, and that's all what Nigeria needs to get to the moon. 46 Likes 1 Share |

Between GEJ and Olivier Giroud (Arsenal FC's main striker), I'm not sure who I dislike more. Nigeria, with GEJ piloting her affairs is just as unlucky as Arsenal FC having Olivier Giroud leading her forward line. Pathetic! 10 Likes |

kestolove95:What I do ask jonathan supporters is that did goodluck jonathan fulfill the promises he made before the 2011 elections??some of them laugh and say NO. While some of them will go speechless or some will start blaming the opposition party for the failure of president jonathan ..but guess what they will now start trying to create an excuse for him..and the annoying thing is that goodluck jonathan himself will keep on saying he has transformed nigeria..if he has transformed nigeria then why the sudden fear on his part??I regret voting for him four years ago... 18 Likes |
