Nigeria postpones presidential vote over security |

This election postponement is most embarrassing and a testament that Preofessor Attahiru Jega is an incompetent and clueless dude just like the President. This is the first time since we returned to democracy that the INEC Boss will openly take orders from the NSA, the Military and members of pro-PDP as regards election scheduling and rescheduling. Since when has the Military activities determines elections scheduling? The Electoral Act and the Constitution did not say NSA, Military and INEC should determine election date. Even if there is crises in a part of the country, Section 26(1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (amended) permit INEC to hold election in the peaceful area and reschedule for the trouble zone at a convenient date. Why can't Jega invoke this section and exclude Gombe, Borno, Adamawa and Yobe from Feb 14 and Feb 28 poll until March 28 and Aprill 11 respectively? Since when do we need the Military for election? What is the Statutory duties of the Police, the NSCDC, and by extension the DSS with respect to internal security? If personnels are not enough then why not bring in other paramilitary to assist? Must it be the Military? Was the Military used in 2003, 2007 and 2011 election? Militarisation started from Edo 2012,then Ondo(2012), Anambra(2011), Osun and Ekiti(2014) Gubernatorial contests. When did the Military become statutory responsible for internal security? The letter of the Chief of Defense State that was communicated to Jega through NSA Sambo Dasuki is treachery and unfortunate. Jega's announcement yesternight only confirmed that he doesn't know what he is doing. This is a shame, our democracy has been raped. 261 Likes 22 Shares |

Election postponement on grounds of Boko Haram is a flawed argument. Boko Haram has been in control of 17 out of 774 (abi na 777) LGs. Is that enough to stop a national process? Party primaries went ahead, election registration went ahead....etc etc. The military claims to have captured territories from BH. Why is the govt still talking about 17 LGs under BH caliphate? Someone is lying. If in 6 weeks, they cannot crush Boko Haram in totality, at what point is it ok to hold the elections? 15, 10, 5 or 2 LGs under BH caliphate? We are being deceived. Jega's hands are tied. I won't blame him. Any elections now will only send people to their graves because PDP will create chaos to prove Jega wrong. Knowing this dumb govt, they will commit a huge blunder and it will be downhill for Nigeria from there. OBJ foisted this irresponsible set of humans on us. 156 Likes 8 Shares |

GEJ has had 6 years of bad decisions. This is by far his worst decision, because it will backfire in ways that he could never have imagined. The world is watching very closely. He cannot hide. 87 Likes 1 Share |

So? Bbc abi US should face front. They won't help fight boko haram, blocked channels through which Nigeria can acquire more arms to fight insurgents yet they want to decide what happens in Nigeria. We have decided to postpone election, US and BBc should mind their business... Rubbish. 108 Likes 4 Shares |

Another failure from the govt and the ruling party. Aside the international shame this has bought to the nation, it shows how desperate PDP has become. Let us ask them #why the desperation? Are they scared that electorates are now aware that they can actually hire and fire any govt? The shame will be endured. The momentum will continue to grow. The electorates will do the needful anytime, anyday. 34 Likes 1 Share |

If PDP doesnt know, the postponement is a disadvantage to it. If the election is held on the 28th of March and INEC selects GEJ as winner, what and how do you think the reaction will be? 26 Likes |

"The Boko Haram conflict has raged for five years but just days before the vote Professor Jega was suddenly told the entire military would be focused solely on the north-east - in other words, "you are getting no help from the military, you are on your own". With the threat of violence so real, he was put in a tight corner." This also got me wondering 32 Likes 2 Shares |

Sometimes I get disappointed that some Nigerians have to wait for foreign news agencies to confirm what is obvious to every person that has stopped sucking his/her mother's breast.GEJ has no intention of conducting an election with a buhari that has a cult like support across the country. The six weeks shift is with the hope and devilish intent that something dramatic happens, even if its death or incapacitation of GMB. If nothing happens then, another devilish plot wud be hatched, including truncating d constitution. This plan wud not stop if this present decision by INEC is taken for granted. There is a battle for the soul of the nation and its not the time to swallow every decision hook, line and sinker, less more despicable decisions wud be rammed down our throats. This is the time for progressives to restrategize and we have no better advantage than the fact that the touch bearer,GMB,has a fanatical support base and cult like following. Many other countries who have tried wrestling power from a monstrous cabal wud envy us in having a man that commands such following. GEJ wants to retain power at all costs, there has to be legitimate ways of stopping him with a leader like GMB. Nigeria lost the opportunity with chief mko Abiola,it wud be suicidal to do same now. 76 Likes 10 Shares |

Nigeria situation is now from bad to worst. With the current happenings, I don't think election will hold at all cos there is no guarantee that military will be able to crush Boko haram in a matter of six weeks. Gej knows what he is doing and that is why he is pushing for extension. The boko haram that could not be defeated within 5 years could now be crushed in a matter of six weeks. See what Obasanjo has done to Nigeria. Generation unborn will not forgive him for this great harm of imposing unfit, inexperienced and corrupt personified individual as our president. What Gej lack is knowledge, he fails to realise that integrity makes a man not unfulfilled promises. 14 Likes |
