APC's Social Media Fails To Improved Buhari's Popularity - Thisday Report by Aksonman: 9:57pm On Feb 08, 2015
Jonathan and Buhari

The upcoming presidential election in Nigeria is no doubt the current trending topic in Nigeria today and Impact social, a company who specialise in analysis of social media and its impact on politics and policy has over a 4 day period, employed the use of a social media tool which tracks every single conversation, live. All Twitter, Facebook, blogs, 50 million websites, forums etc can be read by them. Information is subsequently graded into Positive, Negative and Neutral to estimate the social media electorate’s view on the most mentioned candidates (JONATHAN/PDP and BUHARI/APC)

Find below the findings of the company’s recent research highlighting social media’s sentiments on the candidates representing PDP & APC.

GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN/ PDP
Positivity towards GEJ personally remains a key driver of the PDP campaign (70% positive / 30% negative). There are still some negative issues weighing down the GEJ camp (Buhari, Chibok, postponement of the election) but again these are “compound” with no single issue driving significant levels of negativity. There is work to do on some of the key issues (infrastructure, education) but in this period messaging on the economy has taken up (6%) of the conversation and is seen as a key GEJ / PDP strength. There is positive sentiment towards the PDP itself with a consistent message around support for GEJ. This period might be characterised as one of good control from the PDP / GEJ camp and shows good potential to keep pressing home the big issues Nigerians care about. This analysis was conducted using random, representative samples of over 40,000 tweets, facebook posts, blogs, forums and news sites in Nigeria which mention PDP or GEJ. Our analysis methodology is proven to be at least 95% accurate.

GENERAL MUHAMMED BUHARI
The conversation is dominated by a general discussion of politics which is neither positive or negative. There are lots of “noisy” side issues being discussed, but these are not being used as a campaign platform to gain traction. Indeed there has been some frustration voiced that APC is not focusing on important issues. It might be said that the campaign lacks consistency and content. Interestingly, momentum around endorsement and vocal support has not carried through despite being prominent on the campaign trail the week before. If anything the lack of message penetration by APC will give

encouragement to the GEJ campaign teams to keep its focus on key drivers (economy, infrastructure, agriculture and education) as it appears that APC has little impact on these issues. This analysis was conducted using random, representative samples of over 32,000 tweets, facebook posts, blogs, forums and news sites in Nigeria which mention APC / Buhari Our analysis methodology is proven to be at least 95% accurate.

This is not true. Even on NL, the majority of comments are pro Buhari, and as to not focusing on issues, that's PDP mostly. It just seems really hard for APC to ignore them.

The momentum of the social media campaign has started to wear off. I think that 6 weeks is enough time to smolder whatever fervou that must have been roused by these campaigns. While the PDP on the other hand will begin to perfect moves to dominate campaign outlets to galvanise massive support from the public. It's no wonder that you hear a lot of PDP sponsored jingles lately compared to about a month ago when APC ruled the airwaves.

What is sponsored about this report now? If it said Buhari was winning would you have made the same comment? This is just a measure from a small subset of online activity, it is not wholly accurate nor is it to be seen as a predictor of the coming elections. It just states how trends appear at the present time.

Nigerians need to be dispassionate about these matters.

I wonder if the person who wrote the article fell from Mars out a Green Man's rump.

Even on twitter, Buhari's followers outnumbered Jonathan's in less than a month after Buhari created a handle.

Facebook isn't different. Same goes to Nairaland most other social platforms.

If indeed what the writer is saying is true, why then do even die hard Jonathan's fans refer to Buhari as the Social Media President??

Honestly, not even interested in all these trash anymore. PDP should be proscribed and Jonathan thrown in jail without trial when Buhari gets sworn in May 29th 2015, along with all the current service chiefs for high treason.

Disgusting bunch of troglodytes.

my brother, the truth of the matter is,apc is tired of their bullshit and that won't change a damn on whom we r voting!! They said buhari was bad during his military rule, the truth is,youth dominate the internet and some of these youth were either not born nor matured enough to know what happened back then..but for the last six yrs, they r mature, old enough to know how jonathan have traumatized nigerians and the funny aspect is,they follow him blindly..I pity our youth..how much were they paid? Money that can't sustain them for 5months? Instead of us to rally round and change our future, they keep on clamouring for continuity that doesn't exist..so I pray this prayer for our youths who blindly follow their continuity, may their lives continue the way it is now till they die..and for those who clamour for change,no matter the situation they are now,may God CHANGE their condition for the besT..

this is so far the most inspiring PDP campaign song so far.
read the lyrics.

who sat and watched, our fate and loss.
he came so fast and changed our lives.
when we were down beyond our frown,
he kept his word and gave us light,

tomorrow we ll rise,
tomorrow we ll stand,
we ll keep back our prides and come out en mass to say!
we love you jonathan
our sweet! sweet! nigeria.
give it up for, i ll give it up for, you ll give it up for, we ll give it up for,
Goodluck jonathan.give it up for, i ll give it up for, you ll give it up for, we ll give it up for, Nigeria.give it up for, i ll give it up for, you ll give it up for, we ll give it up for, our fatherland.give it up for, i ll give it up for, you ll give it up for, we ll give it up for my country.

what a man with so much love,
what a man with a big big heart,
see the man that stood by us come rain and sunshine,
electricity and water, good road and sweet food, eradicating poorverty,
better jobs and education.
eh! Jonathan, oh! oh! jonathan.eh! Jonathan, oh! oh! jonathan.
tomorrow we ll rise,
tomorrow we ll stand,
we ll keep back our prides and come out en mass to say

just download and enjoy the complete song.

This article is written by someone on crack cocaine who is hoping others will get as high as he is. Jonathan has completely lost Nigerians. This is merely the efforts of expensively paid 'spin doctors' to bamboozle gullible folks. With Okupe and others foaming at the mouth shouting like lunatic that "Buhari will never rule Nigeria" you know the game is up for these people. GEJ is facing total electoral annihilation. Nigerians are against him and the entire universe is against him. Game over for GEJ and the PDP.

APC's major selling point is Buhari as a person and his record as a military head of state, which is captioned to be a DICTATORSHIP era. For a man that was in charge for just a year plus to have such a career killing past is not just worth having as a formidable change agent. APC as the strongest opposition party made a very bad choice in the person of Buhari.
PDP under GEJ, though have not done marvellously well but is on the transformation process. We all know that building is a process and must be followed, even if the opposition party takes over.
But Nigeria is just filled with wicked, unpatriotic and self-centered politicians that would not want continuity wether in the interest of the masses or not. So long as you are from the opposition camp, all your programmes l'll be terminated once the incumbent or his candidate loses election.

God bless Nigeria
