Vice Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has assured that the General Muhammadu Buhari government will slash tariffs on imported vehicles.

He also said that the APC government would tackle the power problem by decentralising power generation across the country.

While addressing a town hall meeting of political stakeholders in Ondo State on Tuesday, Osinbajo said Buhari will not Islamise Nigeria contrary to the campaign smear of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He said, “We do not agree that there should be high tariffs on imported cars whether new or old ones because Nigeria is not producing cars for now.

“What we will do first is to fix power and encourage local production of cars. But before then we will reduce the high tariffs that Nigerians are paying to import vehicles into the country.”

Prof. Osinbajo argued that Nigerians should not find it difficult to purchase cars for their soci0-economic activities, and the APC government would ensure lower tariffs when voted into power.

On power, the vice presidential candidate said the problem in Nigeria was traceable to the lack of supply of gas to the power plants.

He promised that module power plants would be situated in neighborhoods where power is needed and gas supplied to it using trucks and other means besides pipelines.

According to him, the model has already been put to use in Lagos State where such plants supply power to designated neighborhoods.

Osinbajo also denied that the APC government would ban commercial motor cycles across the country, saying okada would be allowed provided riders obey laws and keep to the rules in the states where they operate.

He lamented the unemployment situation in the country, saying that as an emergency measure, the APC government would cooperate with states in creating 20,000 jobs annually in the country.

He said corruption would be stopped so that resources would be available for development projects.

He said under APC government, it would be criminal not to pay pensions, saying the law that would be put in place would compel employers to ensure pensioners got their entitlements as soon as they retire.

Osinbajo added that the job creation strategy would involve making loans available to small businesses with little or no interest.

It's is criminal to shot up tarrif on imported new and second hand car without a corresponding increase in local production at competitive price.
You only encourage smuggling and the resultant loss of revenue to the government by way of reduced custom duty...
You can't inconvenience Nigerians because of some cabal close to the seat of government ...promising the govt they can meet demand, which obviously is a daunting task...

When you encourage 100-200 small modular power operators generating around 10MW per plant in each regions of Nigeria and dedicated to specific neighborhoods ...you can easily add around 2,000MW per region.....that is 6,000MW.

Honesty power generation and 24hr power supply is not a difficult science, as the likes of the Lagos State government, Dangote, Nigeria flour mills and BUA have proven to us.....its a science in existence several years ago...

VENTURES AFRICA – BUA Group, Honeywell and Dangote Group in conjunction with similar manufacturing plants across Nigeria are generating more than 15,000 megawatts of electricity used by the companies off the national grid, Dr. Lazarus Angbazo, President and CEO of General Electric (GE) Nigeria disclosed at the weekend. According to him, the captive power of 15,000mw is sufficient for the private companies to operate. “When I say they are captive, I am talking about consumer industrial groups that are self-generating, like the Dangote Cement, Bua Cement, Lafarge Cement and others,” explained Angbazo. He said due to inefficient power supply, these groups are constructing private power plants to ensure their operations are not affected by epileptic supply of electricity in the country. “We are in partnership with Dangote, for example, on Obajana, Ibese, Shagamu and Gboko and we are the one providing the power,” local news platform, local daily ThisDay quoted him as saying. Honeywell also gets power from GE, as well as other companies producing food and making use of GE engines. Angbazo said further that the groups have been able to continuously produce the quantity of electricity required for their operations due to their financial muscle, citing Dangote, which is Africa’s largest producer of cement as an example. According to him, the companies are taking the same step in the generation of captive power to ensure smooth operations. The CEO said GE would during next month’s World Economic Forum (WEF) holding in Nigeria talk about how the partnership it has with respect to additional power generating capacity would be increased. He added that the 11 distribution companies (DISCOs) can generate power within their own networks, without going through the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), if they are financially buoyant enough. This, he said would be good as the DISCOs lose up to 40 percent of power allocated to them from the generating companies on transmission. The GE Nigeria chief said he expects some DISCOs to have generating capacity in the next few years, especially the big ones like Ibadan, Ikeja, Enugu and Eko. This he noted will improve electricity supply in Nigeria. Africa’s largest economy with over 170 million people still produces less than 4,000 MW of electricity, a dismal figure when compared with South Africa’s estimated population of 52.9 million and 44, 000MW power generation level. However, reforms in Nigeria’s critical power sector, is expected to bring the much desire succour to its citizens and boost economic activities. Early this year, renowed economist, Jim O’Niell was quoted as saying the country’s economy “could grow at 10-12 percent by sorting out this problem alone.”

Of course....the power sector is still fully regulated by NERC.....and this surely cannot encourage modular operators.....there are loads of power generated by Dangote and BUA been wasted because they can't sell it...

So what happens from the generation to the transmission and eventual distribution of this your bogus 15,000MW?

all power generated by any power plant in the country is channeled to a central national grid that is in turn redistributed all round the country rather than that power generated in that power plant being used within the geographical area that power is generated thereby reducing power loss during the transmission to the so called national grid
