Too excessive, detention should be criminals not policemen.
Re: AIG Mbu Orders Arrest Of 50 Police Officers For Dressing Shabbily. by ngwoke93: 1:33am On Feb 14, 2015
doctokwus:
Fifty policemen with the Lagos state police command are currently in detention for dressing shabbily to work.
The Assistant Inspector General of police,Zone 2 Joseph Mbu,disclosed this to journalists in Abeokuta shortly after meeting with officers of the Ogun state police command.
The police boss said about 70% of officers lack discipline and added that the offence of the erring officers range from wearing dirty uniforms, bathroom slippers, carrying rifles while wearing mufty, amongst others.
He said such conducts are against the code of conduct of the Nigerian police.
Mr.Mbu however expressed hope that the detained officers would change for good within one month.
"What I have noticed is that there is much indiscipline among policemen. They dress anyhow.Come to lagos, they are more than 50 in my cell",he stated.
"They dress the way they like, they wear bathroom slippers, they wear mufty and carry rifles. This is not part of police work. They are in the cell already, they are being punished and I know my men, within one month, they would change",Mr.Mbu said.
Mr.Mbu said the media made him popular.
"I wasn't popular in Rivers state, you made me popular in Rivers state. I was popular in Oyo state.I was popular in Abuja when I was CP of FCT and when I was posted to zone 7"
" In Rivers state, you people were hearing one side of the story because the other party was richer. You were not hearing my own side of the story. You have not bothered to go to Oyo state to go and ask why I was successful in the state, why I was named the best CP by house of assembly",he said.
Mr.Mbu has been in the news for controversial reasons, the latest being his remarks on Thursday that he will order his officers to kill 20 in response, if any police personnel is killed during the 2015 elections.

CityNG,
I expect better from you.

You mean "where you are located", if for any reason (l mean any reason), a Policeman is killed, the Police will DELIBERATELY OPEN FIRE AND KILL ANOTHER "INNOCENT 19 CIVILIANS" IN RETALIATION?

While l will not subscribe to killing Policemen or anyone doing his legitimate job for that matter, .... killing the same people you are supposed to protect (l am referring to the extra "innocent 19" he promised to kill in retaliation) is not anywhere near the act of a civilised environment or sane humanbeing. Do those 19 deserve to die? What have they done except to be passing-by...and Mr. Mbu is in angry crazy-mode?
Would it not be nice if they were members of your family? undecided

What are the Courts for then?
Where in the constitution is this foolish act captured or is this Police thug called Mr. Mbu writing his own laws just because he has a "job" to do in Lagos?

Let's not be defining "good or evil", based on who is the perpetrator or the victim..... Tables could turn, you know. undecided

Lastpage!

Let me say this again in case it wasn't clear enough before.

I completely support what Mr. Ibu said, completely.

Any one, in the USA or Nigeria , that has intention to injure a Police Officer while performing his lawful duty needs to be terminated with extreme prejudice.

For any citizen that is law abiding and won't participate in riots and other nonsense, they have nothing to worry about. For those that have intention to kill and maim Police and other citizens, I pray that you are killed on the spot.

There is no need for a "South Central" mentality, if any one has grievances then take it to court. The firearm that is issued to a Police Man is not a walking stick or movie prop, it's has only one use, to terminate the life of an adversary when the Police Officer thinks it's necessary. And guess what, he is authorized to do so.

PS: Table can never turn on me because the context of this comment is based on willingly going out to kill a Police Officer, I will never do that as I am educated and will simply retain an Attorney if necessary to sue. If anyone intend to go out and kill Police Officers then they deserve all that is coming to them.

I haven't fully researched this Police Chief but from the little I've read it seems that he actually is one of the good guys. He certainly hasn't committed any act for me to have a negative opinion.

He is responsible for the safety of his Men and would want them to go home to their own families at the end of their shifts.

We can't hope and aim for change without each of us taking personal responsibilities for our actions.

PPS: Stop posting with emotions, it's unbecoming. Members of my family respect law enforcement officers and will never go out with an intention to kill one. I can't speak for members of your own family.

I now support AiG MBU since he can't start arresting all those policemen that carry rifles while wearing mufti and bathroom slippers.

Why are they called bathroom slippers. I walk barefooted in the bathroom. I can imagine what a few drops of water between rubber and floor tile can.do since there are enough hard surfaces to bang your head on.

DETAINED FOR SPECIAL DUTY!
My third eye informs me that Mbu is rounding these Policemen up for the purpose of being used to favour PDP on election days.

I once met a Policeman at a supermarket who informed me while commending the Police authority on the way he was neatly dressed, that he purchased his uniform with his own money, Mbu will therefore be his known wicked self to be arresting those Policemen.

He is arresting them for special purposes. Why didn't he arrest Policemen in Potrharcourt and Abuja while in charge there?

I miss the Nigeria of the late 70's and early 80's where I reach manhood.

You Teacher and Police Men were Gods to be respected. Only yellow fevers can be messed with. We actually had Highway Patrols who patrolled in blue colored 504 Station Wagons.

An army vehicle sighted will cause almost a panic because they were in the barracks and hardly ever come out.

We actually had an Air Force that does flybys over major towns like Ibadan and Ijebu Ode on 11/11.

So, Mr. Ibu, I welcome you to your new zone and I pray it includes Ibadan as well.

War Against Indiscipline (even Alhadji Wasiu Ayinde made a record on it) needs to come back.

A professional is a professional regardless.

If you're a professional Law Enforcement person, a proper and neat uniform commands respect, attention and thus is necessary.

I am not arguing that they should be buying their own but if that's what it takes then......

First, maybe Mr. Mbu should tell us what happened to the money budgeted for Police Uniform and other accessories like boots, belts, e.t.c

It is ALWAYS STOLEN by the Police Top Brass like Mr. Mbu himself.
So, to be putting officers in Cell just because they cant afford to dress proper;y, through no fault of theirs but that of thieving Cops like Mbu himself, is DOUBLE JEOPARDY!

Now, this Mr. Mbu is Power-Drunk!

As a Policeman, your DUTY is to "Serve and Protect the Public".... in all situations.

As a Top Brass Policeman who has risen to the level of AIG (by hook or crook), l expect him to know that when the "Public" offends, your duty is to APPREHEND THEM AND HAND THEM OVER TO THE COURT FOR SENTENCING, IF FOUND GUILTY.

To say "you will kill 20 Civilians for every Policeman killed during election Violence, show that Mr. Mbu is a total opposite of what a Policeman needs to be.... not to talk of an AIG!
So, the same Policeman who swore to "serve and protect the Public", will actually turn hi gun on innocent civilians/public just because ONE of them killed a Policeman?
The "innocent 19" that this THUG will kill could be you or me or our family members!

Two wrongs never make a Right.... and a Police AIG is supposed to know better.... if he actually deserves the rank he is wearing!

In saner climes, these thug will be in jail for that statement as he is obviously "an ever present danger" to the Public.

President Jonathan needs to call this his "Attack Dog" to order before its too late.
Coming to kill Lagosians, for "revenge killings" is not part of his remit!
Ten thousand "Mbus" cannot intimidate Lagosians.

I see a better NPF if Mr. Mbu becomes the IG of Police. According to ex-IGP Mohammed, Mbu is a professional. Pls sanitize our police from touts.

The disciplinarian side of him is good as long as he's not making noise

He also seems to be blowing his trumpet....louder than the impact of the job....all these Me ! Me ! Me ! I did this, I did that and go and ask about me is just noise

Sounds like distraction... FG won't post him to this side if not for sinister reasons.... lets not get carried away

MBU need to be monitored and watched closely...

Well done if he's doing a genuine job.....

That is a good one. He should inculcate discipline into those lawless and indiscipline people who think they can just harass innocent citizens.

Police people are the worse and most shabbily dressed forces I have ever seen in naija.

I look at the way the navy, army, airforce, customs are dressed and wonder why the police force cannot emulate them.

No wonder they were formerly wearing black and now that they have been given a good pair of uniforms they still choose to be dirty. Not all of them o but majority of them.

Just the other day,a police man passed me and the perfume that greeted me was the stench of ogogoro. Drinking while on duty. Indiscipline has really eaten deep into their system. Talk of corruption, they are the baba.

AIG Mbu should deal with them so hard until they change. Nice job AIG Mbu
This man is a very discplined officer hell bent on instilling discpline on his fellow police men and changing the image of the police as boot lickers.

Mbu is a professional man that deserves every promotion if you behave well he will not cross you but try nonsense. For sanity to reign in our police force i propose mbu should be made IGP as soon as possible

#Mbu for IGP
He was rumored being proposed for the office but for his stupidness and being quite junior .
How can an AIG be detaining 50 of his jen in cell are there no way to deal with improperly dressed police men or is he having a new police act where he derive his raw powers why not he go try that in one far north state where even a constable will tell him point blank he lack such powers .
He could get intouch with DIG Iyamabo Rtd who will give first hand experience of hers in kano !

You've got to be kidding me. Nigerians are so used o lawlessness to not question this "arrest".

A simple suspension or discharge for the day would have sufficed.

What crimes did they commit? Arrest them for bribery if nothing else.

Do you know the penalty of the offense that they violated?

If not, then how can you claim that it's excessive?

Nigerians are used to not being held accountable for their actions and lack to low moral equity.
