I don't know if it's just me. I dont consider any of our female comediennes (Princess, Ellen paul etc) funny at all. i was at a show recently where one of them performed, it was so dry i didn't know what to do, i just clapped to encourage her. I have watched Sommore, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Joan Rivers, Ellen Degeneres e.t.c, those women are really funny, why are our Naija female comedians different?

they are, went to chevron end of year party where helen paul was the anchor, I laugh my ass out, I just discovered ur a lady and ladies has hatred tendency toward a fellow lady esp when in such position! not my fault though I am saying the truth!

Females in general and female comedians in particular, not just the local ones. Comedy is a man's thing whether stand up, stage or screen. Women simply cannot tell a joke.

Some professions where both male and female engage here in nigeria, the way people view them is quite different. For example mechanic , some female's have been involving in mechanic. No one will want a woman to fix their car for them because they might think she is a woman and they might think she is not good enough. This is nigeria , the way we view things here is quite different from the caucasian's. Female might be a comedian there in europe and be the best but here in nigeria , it might not work out. Tho helen paul and co are trying and getting attention but not like that of basket , bovi and others.

I believe the Op is refering to stand up comedianes cos the likes of patience oziokwor ada mbano and others are funny, mere looking at their gestures alone is enough to make you laugh,as for the standup comedianes why they are not reallly funny is cos they really can't engage in trash talks like the men cos the society will frown at them for using such words as they are expected to be role models to younger gals. Mandy has only two jokes the one of marriage and mess jam generator.

Ellen Paul is very funny and can stand out as a wonderful female comedian. Being to shows where she performed. She is on point.

I think this is because women over there are "allowed" to be more expressive and also have the liberty to touch on many more topics that would be termed too sensitive for a woman in this environment.

I am not quite familiar with female stand ups in Naija, but sometimes i specifically search for female stand ups to post on my site, and it is a nearly impossible task to find anything partially funny.
