how did rooney fail to read the flight of this ball. this pass travelled about 40 yards - rooney should be connecting with this pass before it gets to the goalie.

the point is rooney could have avoided falling down. this kinda tackles happen every time on the pitch and you see players jumping over it and continuing with play. rooney also left a leg hanging behind to make sure contact was made but the goalie didn't touch him.

such slide tackles can be skipped in midfield but never in the box! if Rooney refused to go down when the GK clearly missed the ball, then he would been the biggest fool tonight in the entire UK.

it can also be argued that eluding that tackle made him lose balance in his strides, which means he's already disadvantaged - so ...?
