The picture below shows a 2012 camry XLE and it was bought by a Nairalander and he also picked up himself and drove down to port harcourt all alone but we've learnt some lessons with his experience.

We once charged this job for N480,000 with N301,000 bank payment but we just discovered that even with N301,000 bank payment,it can be impounded by customs and thank God we didn't learn in a hard way but it was positive news cos our Nairalander finally got his car out safely despite frayed nerves. We've always charged N480,000 for 2012 camry but all of a sudden,NCS suddenly changed everything without informing agents but we were able to scale through because of our close ties with NCS officials and our good reputation which makes importers like hassrassh,ovie and a host of others trust with getting their vehicles and customers across the border.

Lessons learnt are as follows -

1. 2012 Camry will now be charged 580,000 as custom duty,with bank payment between N400,000-450,000 custom duty.

2. Importers will always be encouraged to come directly to the border to pick up their vehicles.

3. Although we at Jelad ventures will always try to make purchase in cotonou and custom duty easier for customers/importers,we will also try to make sure that we update ourselves daily with NCS requirements and we'll also let our customers know.

What I wrote is as follows-

Asking price is N2.3M + N480,000 custom duty,we used to charge N350,000 with N205,000 has bank payment but NCS started impounding them so after series of meetings between ANCLA and NCS,we started charging 480,000.


Service charge is N30,000 and it's negotiable for vehicles below 2010.

If you decide not to pick your vehicle up from our office,arrangements can be made with our driver and he'll drop for a token paid by you.MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE CUSTOMS DOCUMENTS FROM ANY LOCAL NCS COMMAND,that's why we always invite you to pick your vehicle up yourself from any border it comes out from,thanks.

I can't give you a total cost,the basis of quoting a last price is only if a bargain has been done,that's why most buyers are lured and scammed in cotonou,the agent/middleman quotes a low price and the dealer gets stuck in the middle.Check the picture below,it shows a single line in a park and a park has almost 4 lines like that with at least 100-120 car dealers (their offices are the small buildings) and we have almost 9 parks.

The only basis I can quote a final price is if you've decided not to bargain.

How much does one have to budget for a good fairly used (Tokunbo) 2004 Acura MDX, 2005 Honda CR-V and 2008 Hyunda Elantra? Please, I am planning to buy any of these cars by next month end, but I am not well versed in cars as to know the good one to buy for an average 6-digit income earner like me. Note: this is my first ever car.

Secondly, can you advise, based on your experience, a good tokunbo car that can last and is cost effective in terms of maintenance. Lastly, Please I need your contacts so that I can get in touch with you regarding the car I am planning to buy.

Asking price for 05 Honda CRV is N1.750M + N250,000 custom duty.

Asking price for 04 acura MDX is N1.5M + N380,000 custom duty.

Asking price for 2008 Hyundai Elantra is N1.8M + N280,000 custom duty.

If I was asked to choose two vehicles out of the three,I will choose CRV and Elantra.CRV is better if yoiur roads are bumpy and rough while elantra is also rugged but it all depends on maintainance culture.
