thinkdip:That's the problem with most Nigerians ,they are too academically challenged to understand when intelligent people speak from the intelligent point of view ,hence the usual rethoric and name calling with zero insight on what can be done to salvage the situation and save the day. Little wonder the leadership sometimes seem not to be bothered at all .After all what would one do if you find out that you're staying in a house filled with less intelligent people that aren't making effort to enhance their IQ ! You simply leave them alone until they are ready to flow on the same frequency. Honestly speaking , most Nigerians deserve to die first before this country can move forward because there is no place for them in a civilized society. 3 Likes |

She's absolutely right. First, everyone needs a permanent identifier. Secondly, after 12 months, everyone should be required to provide an account of their finances, including newly acquired properties and assets. They must coincide with income or be declared as gifts from a documented benefactor. There's no way to completely prevent corruption, but when two or three governors enter the cell for 20 yrs, other civil servants will take heed. 2 Likes |

Nigeria doesn't have a credible police and judiciary system. And they are the key that checks corruption. No rules. |

Want to stop corruption? It starts with the President downwards. When politicians and religious leaders live ostentatious lives ill-fitting for should be moral-role-models, what do you expect of the common man? You lead by example, and that's non-inclusive of having what, 9 aircrafts in the PAF, nor feeding on millions/day while the rest feed on less than $1/day! Any sincere leader should learn from Uruguay's president (José "Pepe" Mujica); described as "the world's 'humblest' president", due to his austere lifestyle and his donation of around 90 percent of his $12,000 (£7,500) monthly salary to charities that benefit poor people and small entrepreneurs. His humble lifestyle is reflected by his choice of an aging Volkswagen Beetle as transport. In 2010, the value of the car was $1,800 and represented the entirety of the mandatory annual personal wealth declaration filed by Mujica for that year. In November 2014, the Uruguayan newspaper Búsqueda reported that he had been offered 1 million dollars for the car, which was manufactured in 1987; he said that if he did get 1 million dollars for the car it would be donated to house the homeless through a programme that he supports. His wife owns the farm they live on. And this is a man that doesn't even believe in God! And now transparency scores in Uruguay have improved in the last fifteen years in both absolute and comparative terms. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Mujica http://www.againstcorruption.eu/reports/corruption-and-politics-in-uruguay/ 1 Like |

To APC people: when they ask you people to embrace fiscal federalism with regional governments in order to make leaders more accountable to the population, una APC people go say no; una go say una want the present unitary system of government to continue - all because una want share of crude oil in the Nigerdelta. The only way to stop corruption in Nigeria is to return to regional government system with fiscal federalism; otherwise, any Buhari shouting of coming to fight corruption is making noise. 4 Likes 1 Share |

I have been saying this, that we have a lot of idiots on nairaland and in Nigeria. How could anybody read what NOI said and turn around and be asking which uni she attended? I guess most of the morons haven't even been to Lagos or Abuja, to talk of leaving naija. The problem of corruption is there because of the system we operate. It is so easy to lay our hands on public treasury. The presidency has easy access to our treasury. Same goes for the governors, legislators, ministers, local government chairpersons, commissioners and councillors. There are no hurdles at all to get to our treasury. In the western world, the executives and all, don't have easy access to fund. That's because the accountant generals at all levels, will not dance to the tune of the executives. And that is because their jobs are not dependent on the executive. You have absolute separation of power. People are more honourable and have respect for the rule of law. NOI, is right. We need to block all the easy accesses to our treasury, at all level. Nigerians need to stand up for what is right. The NPF and Judiciary will need to be liberated from the executive arm. In overseas, police investigate the executives and the courts are usually antagonistic toward the executives, thereby helping in keeping everyone under check. It is not a day's journey. We will get there, one day at a time. Jona and co are simply laying the foundations with what they have done with fertilizer distribution and power. The system of paying workers too and all the other innovative initiatives are the way to go and should be commended. We can't kill off corruption in a day. It is a system and must be dismantled systematically. That's what NOI is saying and I agree with every bit of it. 3 Likes 1 Share |

slimfit1: Either you are being disingenuous or mischievous. I must tell you that she nailed it. It is obvious that you didn't get what she is saying. The summary of what she is saying is that our police force, EFCC and the likes of ICPC are not functioning. The legal system as well is not functioning. These are the institutions that penalises and deters people in equal measure from committing the crimes in the first place. Nigeria's legal system is considered the weakest institution within our democracy. The underpinning of the 'rule of law' is very corrupt. The police force that enforces the law are very, very corrupt indeed. Hope this makes your day. It is not all about Jonathan. The olodo that snatched my tablet last week cannot be blamed on JONATHAN, NOI, or PDP either. The Fashola 'agent' who came to my house in ikeja to collect tax, with dodgy receipt is not JONATHAN's fault either. Corruption has eaten into the fabric of the polity (society). The problem I find with simpletons like you, is that you talk before thinking. Your freedom of speech is far more important than your understanding the speech of a woman, who is full of wisdom and experience. Granted that she is not at your level, then read the context of why, how she arrives at her statements. Every speech she makes is not unprompted, but prepared by the best the economic team can summon. Think before you write next time. 3 Likes |

The govt. Is doing everything to reduce corruption within nigeria. With our logical criticism an institution will be designed in favour of the nation. Where even an incoming govt can be well checked by the ordinary man on the street. Good never comes easily. But when they come the value for it need drop even against those who initiated them. eph12:don't mind them the moderator has dragged it to front page, without knowing the content, she never said that the FG didn't have the capacity but Nigeria as a whole.. This because fighting corruption is a responsibility of everyone, I remember when a principal painted a roof with white paint instead of buying a new zinc he was given money for, and the teachers there refused to expose him. People will now blame the government. So don't mind them they know what they are doing. |
